I didn't realize I didn't know much of anything about voice coils until this video. I feel like I have a way better grasp now. Good stuff! These are the kind of videos of yours that I enjoy the most.
Very interesting. All this makes logical sense when you think about it. Problem is, most people don’t think about it. So props to you for highlighting the different performance characteristics that result from the different design philosophies. Also, B2 is the best in the industry right now IMO. Their subs have it all. They model really well, they perform even better and they’re beautiful to look at! I’m 100% buying B2 subs in my next build. I want that 8” Rampage so badly but will prob go with the Rage series
I love most of subwoofer brands but B2 really Impressed me as well American Bass and even the 8 inch Black Bricks MB showcase few weeks back so I'm definitely getting some B2's in the near future.
That’s really good info my man! This is why I love your channel. You explain specs better than anyone and happy I went with my Resilient Sounds 10” golds with a 2 1/2” Vc because most 10” subs are 3” Vc in that price range and powering configuration. Keep blowing up good knowledge, much appreciated.
I thought a voice was just a voice coil, didn't know that it's size played such a role, thank you sir for the enlightenment, you've helped me now I'll be able to make a great decision when picking up subs.
Ive owned 16 different sundown subs in my 6 year career. Like I said a few videos back, the b2 rage xl 15’s that I have are insanely impressive. Thats coming from someone whos owned and stayed true to the x series for years.
Man that was some knowledge right there. Thanks you for taking the time to make these videos. I thought I was fairly knowledgeable about car audio but these videos took my knowlege to another level.
They can increase the depth of the rolls on the spider and add an extra layer to compensate for the difference in size of coil. The added layer will stiffen the spider and that blows your theory out of the water. They can then have just as much excursion. For every inch of coil you can double the heat dissipation. Plus depending on basket will determine size of spider size as well. This is why DD, Sundown, B2 Audio can use larger spiders because landing is substantially larger. That's why they have their own proprietary baskets. Facts.
All things equal, I'd like a smaller coil. There's also the layers of the coil to think about. 2.5 inch coil is 7.85 inches in circumference, multiplied by 4 for a 4 layer coil is 31.8 inches. 2 inch coil is 6.28 inches in circumference, multiplied by 8 for an 8 layer coil is 50.24 inches. Furthermore, the actual thickness of the winding, different materials, and like you said the different cooling passages for subs.
If anyone wants to hear a good rebassed music playlist I have a music playlist with over 500 rebassed songs to gets your subwoofers to move a ton of air.
Why people who are not competing want brut force. Why At some point it’s not enjoyable I want to jam and jam a lot louder than factory I’ve had a system in ever car since I was 16 and I’m 45 Never had thrown alot of power. Maybe I’m missing something Fuck it I’m a get a taramp. Lmao SIKE
My port is to the passenger side and sounds better and less trunk rattle. Louder too. Was gonna try driver side just to see was it a noticeable difference. Box before this one was to the back and it didn't sound close as loud as the one MB built.
@@geoffrey6876 I heard a Pontiac Grand Prix that sounded much better with a port side firing instead of back, and ski pass down in the middle so the air could get through the rear seats from the trunk. It also sounded better facing sideways, with subs facing back. Definitely banged, I've seen a couple exceptions it's always best to experiment and be open-minded to a new approach.
Moreal has 10" 12" 15" subs that use 5" coil. B2 has the x2six 6" coil sub. Seen a 7" coil on a tymphany sub. Sound quality and spl subs have large coils. There is no best coil size imo. This is a bag of worms kind of thing.
Larger coil = more weight = higher mms. Thus the ability of having a lower fs. If your sub doesn't need to have 2" excursions one way, then Larger coils with soft spiders and low power is fine for Sq.
Sorry.. but this is why 6.5 and 8 subs make no sense to me.. I mean yeah if you saving space ok.. but then you want throw.. vc size.. and will pay 350$ to achieve it.. when you can buy a 10 , likely fit it , and get the stats you want . For half the $

I agree with this, but you talk about price increase due to better technology and the Sundown X8 is $400, so I guess the Sundown X8 has better technology than the B2 in this video. Your logic turned against you.
Huh no…the B2 cost more than the Gold 8. The Gold is a JLD of the shelf. Glad you like Sundown nothing wrong with that. But I like what I like .. and by the way I own 2 X8v3’s got them personally from Jacob before they ever hit the market. In fact I’ve had every iteration of X8 and SA8 since 2009. Great subwoofer, but they are others just as good some for more done for less. You should really try to be just happy with whatever you decide to run.

I've learned more in 3 of your videos than the last 10 years on my own thanks
That b2 basket looks significantly wider hence bigger spider landing just by looking at them side by side but damn that gold 8 looks monstrous lol
Everything you said is correct that's exactly the reason Stereo Integrity gave for their SQL sub

What is your opinion on the mtx 9500 15 inch with the 4 inch voice coil? I used to think that the bigger the coil=better.
I use to think the same too
Can you put 4 8” b2s in a truck box under the seat …in the right air space? 2019 f150
