The 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S Is A More Buzz Worthy Electric SUV For The People

  • After nearly 4 years on the market, VW’s first-ever dedicated EV gets some big upgrades in the form of new electric motors and much improved tech. The 2024 #VolkswagenID4 should become more appealing as the updated #ID4 gets a big power boost with up to 81 additional HP and on the #ID4Pro4S with RWD nearly 300 miles of range. Expect the updated #VWID4 to show up at US dealers in early March.

      I've had a 21 RWD, then a 23 AWD. I still miss the turning circle on the RWD because it is almost unbelievably small. Now that the RWD has a massive power upgrade all the way up to 280 hp AND 290 miles of range, it really is the best choice to get. Plus it is cheaper than the AWD too.

      I'd agree. We love our 2023 AWD as well. The only thing it's missing is battery preconditioning. We live in a cold climate and were expecting VW to add conditioning based on what they were saying a year ago but that verbiage has disappeared and now it looks like our cars will not be getting any significant software updates. @@tren133

    We got an ID.4 and absolutely love it, it’s a great car, does basically everything well, the comfort is one of my favorite parts, it’s a very comfy car. The touch controls are also not nearly as big as an issue as people on the internet make it out to be, you get used to them almost immediately.

    Just bought a 23 ID.4 Pro S AWD with 949 miles on it and it was a great deal! Less than $30,000 although it does have a Branded/Lemon Title. Of course did my homework calling VW (not dealer) to ask what exactly was wrong and they told me it was a door unlocking. They also told me the car had full factory warranty on it. Also took it to a VW Dealer who performed a complete inspection of the vehicle and found absolutely nothing wrong. We've since put an additional 900 city/highway miles on it and had zero problems. It's a great car and I love driving it!

    Drums brakes arent as attractive, but because its an RWD EV, most of the braking power is at the front anyways, with the rear being motor based regen. Drums here won't have issues of rusting and are extremely low maintenance. And as an owner of the 2021 model, I can tell you first hand how much the front brakes have a tendency to get rusty. There is always a thin layer of brownish brake dust on the front wheels while the backs are squeaky clean.

    Thanks for the video. Nice to hear about the improvements. Wouldn't have minded a few more (less touch capacitive buttons, built-in dashcam, better stereo for levels below Plus) but still glad for the improvements. It's too bad the ID4 wasn't like this from the start. I think the ID4 currently has a so-so reputation now due to the earlier infotainment, power (for RWD) and range shortcomings of the 21-23 models. The 2 button window controls, though way overblown, also generated/generates some negative vibes.
    As improved as the 2024 is, it's still going to take some time to reverse the negative opinions. Since the 2024 exterior looks the same, I bet a lot of people will just assume the 2024 still has the shortcomings of the prior years. It was a poor decision by VW to not make a single aesthetic change to distinguish it from earlier ID4s. They could've simply made the rear turn signal lens amber instead of red, then people would be able to recognize it as a 2024 that has some improvements.
    I don't understand people's preference for hood struts. Ok, some people may not have the physical strength or height/arm length to lift up the hood, so I can understand that they would prefer struts. But for people who can lift up a hood, why would you want struts? I can lift a hood, so I much prefer a rod to prop up the hood. A hood prop rod will not break, whereas struts will fail (lose pressure) and need to be replaced after some years.
    In your video, the switching between AWD to RWD then back to AWD versions of the ID4, especially when they both had the same interior color, was a bit confusing.

    Thanks for the first look. Nice to see them making some significant improvements. I'm surprised they raised the price at all considering the trend of other EV manufactures to lower prices, then you add in the slowing car market...
    I'm disappointed they did not increase the battery from 82 to the 86kWh being offered in the ID.7. I'm also disappointed they didn't fix the issue with the rear seatbelt openings eating small objects. If this is a car for people with kids VW should know that kids drop things and those things always find the lowest point. In this car that is a void inside the rear seat that can only be accessed by the opening around the seatbelts! This is a significant design flaw for a car that has had so much thought put into it.

Cupra retailer solicitor said “your client is attempting to charge the Vehicle outside of peak hours for cost purposes, the Vehicle’s battery safeguarding technology protects the battery and charges at approximately 50% charge as the battery is not at the safe temperature.” I’m not clear if everyone knows this may mean (as in my case even in a closed integral garage) that 75/80% of home charges could be at only half 7kwh, ie just 3.5kwh.
    This is the full item they quoted:
    ** VWG test data for comparison purposes. Actual charging times will vary depending on e.g. options, age, type, condition and temperature of charger/battery, charger usage & environmental factors. Charging time will be longer in cold weather or if battery safeguarding technology is activated.”

    Disappointed VW didn't do more. Powertrain is good upgrade but why not upgrade on all trims including smaller battery pack? The fastest 2023 rwd id4 is the smaller pack and lowest trim assume for 2024 fastest is awd pro trim. Also vehicle to load, plug and charge, id7 massage seats and upgraded cameras.. also no detailed pricing. I really wish they added upgraded drive train to 60kwh pack...

    • @devn3813
      @devn3813 3 месяца назад +2

      What they need to stop doing is putting massive heavy wheels and lifted suspensions on all of these vehicles. They could probably get another 80 miles of range by just not having gargantuan wheels on everything

    • @tren133
      @tren133 3 месяца назад

      Next gen battery tech is only starting to come out in China right now. For instance NIO finally released their ultra long range 150 kWh battery pack with the same dimension and almost the same weight as their current 100 kWh pack. Li Auto new Li Mega MPV just released with CATL's fastest charging 5c battery pack, which peaks at over 500 kW and is still pulling over 300 kW at 80%, compared to this ID.4 which peaks at 170 kW and pulls around 90 kW at 80%. None of this tech is cheap though, since the Li Mega and NIO ET7 are both luxury vehicles.
      For mainstream use, a lot of the development is focused on LFP batteries, which are cheaper and last longer. Although some of them are getting improved performance and charging speed as well, such as Geely's new 800V "Golden Battery".

    No more three years of free charging on EA. Excerpt from the PR: "The 2024 ID.4 Charging Plan includes 500 kWh of charging at Electrify America, redeemable through the Electrify America app, plus three years of Electrify America’s Pass+ membership, saving about 25% on charging compared to Guest and Pass membership base charging rates. Pass+ members can use the app to favorite charging stations, get notified when a charger opens up, start charging and track progress, and pay contact-free."

      oh well, at least that will help with the congestion at local EA stations which will often have one or more ID.4 sitting there taking advantage of the free charging. • @gratefulliving1760
    @gratefulliving1760 3 месяца назад

    Drum brakes: they can be designed in such a way that once locked, they don’t lose their grip over a longer engagement time like the disk brakes do. More suitable as a parking brake. Unlike a gasoline car, an EV like ID.4 doesn’t have a holding pin in a transmission that locks it when in park position, thus an utterly reliable parking brake becomes crucial. Since the electric motors can operate as a brake too, drum brakes at the rear become sufficient for deceleration duties. So, this design decision makes sense to me.
    The three buttons instead of conventional four for window up-down switches make neither ergonomic nor engineering sense. So there must be some other reason. My guess is that this is a part of a deliberate psychological barrier to prevent affluent buyers from purchasing ID.4 instead of Audi e-tron. Exquisitely drab interiors, with black shiny hard plastics that never look clean may serve the same purpose.
    The danger for Volkswagen in regards to ID.4 is of course competition from the likes of Honda, Nissan, and eventually Toyota, with their base EVs featuring highly ergonomic and nicely done interiors. I guess Volkswagen may revise their questionable design devisions, such as three-button window switches, after they realize that such decisions critically contributed to a loss of sales on the order of 10,000 or more ID.4s a year.

    • @michaels3003
      @michaels3003 2 месяца назад

      I agree on the brakes. The window switches will be back, but there is no specific date. Possibly in 2025. I guess, separate climate controls will be added as well. It is easy to criticize, but we don’t know if these cars make any money for VW at this time. They invested billions of dollars in the EV endeavors.

      I love those window controls. I hate when I accidentally lower the wrong window cause I pressed the wrong button. I prefer only 2 switches. If I need the rear windows lowered the people in the back can do it.
