Its so weird how these clone systems when it comes to NES, only the "Super Mario Bros." trilogy seems to have radically different sound fonts compared to their official hardware counterparts. Whereas other NES games don't seem to have that issue on clone systems.
It can definitely be heard on other games, but this is just the easiest one, most people have played Super Mario brothers, they know what it's supposed to sound like. So it's just the easiest example I use
I've been playing my Classic N for a few months now and like someone else in comments, I only notice the sound difference on Mario games. Of course I have sound turned down a lot, possibly out of habit because when I was a kid, the NES sounds and music would drive my parents crazy due to repetitiveness. I got a SNES and a Genesis (authentic), but it's nice to know there is a cheap stand-in like this in case these two ever fail.
3:35 Curiously, the colors and the sound of these clone systems on SMB are very similar to the arcade version SMB VS, I wonder if clone manufacturers used the arcade as a base for their clones. 6:44 It's definitively an upgrade compared to clone systems that crash in the first screen, maybe in the future there will be one that can go to the third level. 10:53 I saw some people on the internet modding clone systems to play Virtua Racing, apparently it's just a wiring issue. Anyways, this could've been one of the best ones yet if it wasn't for these issues.
1 - No, it's the way the audio is processed thru HDMI as the Composite audio us far more accurate. 2 - The issues were aways with Level 2, not level 1 3 - If you're going to mod then you're likely not the target for this sort of system.
@@RoXolid1. So, can you use the composite audio conected to stereo speakers and the image through HDMI? If it worked that would be a huge plus for this system on the NES portion. 2. I was talking about the first screen when the second level starts, usually the game crashes after you hit the first enemy at the wall. 3. It's a really easy mod, it's just an extra wire, all of the clones that play VR just have this fix installed on the PCB.
1 yes 2 just about all of the clones that I've tried with battletoads play level 2 for a bit before it crashes, it's never immediate 3 understood, but still the customer for this type of device is generally not the type of customer who would mod something
Alright Gamerztek your move! I love the 2 in 1 thanks to your review and would love to see their take on a 3 in 1.......... with usb c of course. Great job reviewing!
I'll actually do it with this system, the retron 3 hd, and the super retro trio 3 plus to show how all three have better audio through the analog composite outputs than HDMI
I feel Genesis sounds very distorted, it's a problem with the console or the capture device? As I only hear big distortions with that system. NES sounds very wrong like a $10 nes on a chip, but SNES sounded quite decent. I'm glad it's hardware based instead of emulation, but quality looks kinda lackluster. Good review
It is an SoC. The audio sounded fine when I was playing, but in the capture it sounded terrible, I don't know why. It did that with 3 different capture cards too
It's $10 cheaper so that's a good thing, but from there the Retron 3 HD has better controllers. The quality of the Retron 3 HD is considerably better IMO
Hey, I think you did a good analysis! Lately I have been watching all your videos about clone consoles, I think they are very good and you talk deeply about the capabilities they have, I have saved a little money and for weeks I have been looking for a clone system, I always preferred to use the original consoles however my SNES died due to a chip problem and my Genesis 2 broke the power jack, so mainly which one do you recommend talking only about SNES and Genesis? I am interested above all in being as faithful as possible to the colors shown by the original console and decent audio. I know there is the analogue Super NT but that is way out of my financial reach. Greetings from Mexico 👍
Which clone system has the most accurate sound and play that you recommend? Classiq 3 or Retron 2 HD or a different one, I hear with the Classiq2 has wierd off sound quality. Thanks! Was leaning the Retron 2 HD or Classiq 2 HD which is better?
A LOT of useful info here. Thank you very much !! I'd still get it just cos it seems to be running most games OK. Id like to put my original NES, SNES and GENESIS consoles on display and not have to touch them unless I need to.
Everytime I see a review of a Classiq console, I always boot up own to check if I'm going insane. I own a Classiq N SD and SMB sounds as it should and the colors are great (though that could be because I have it hooked up to my CRT). Maybe they fixed the sound in the SD consoles but not the HD ones?
