This is a old documentary. Not sure who uploaded it back up. Sadly, this is still the case in Miami. Its an even more extreme city of have and have nots.
@@claudettedoyley9056 Yeah , all the people that are moving here with money and driving up prices are making it more difficult for the middle and lower class in Miami. They are in there honey moon stage and have no clue what Miami is really like outside of thier small bubble.
Looks very similar to my city of Cape Town, South Africa. Extreme poverty, crime, gangsterism, homelessness vs wealth, priviledge, magnificent homes and safe gated real estate. Unfortunately our bad areas are so bad the police wont go in, and ambulance workers are often attacked. Meanwhile at the Waterfront people sipping champagne and eating oysters. The middle class are battling to afford housing and keep crime from the door (not very successfully). This is the Capitalist system and is found throughout the world. Sad unfair world we live in.
I grew up in Miami. Outsiders moving to Miami ruined it. Its a banana republic now. In Miami's case "diversity" wasn't diverse at all. It was an overwhelming wave of a certain group who were supposedly fleeing their own repressive government. Turns out they wanted to be the ones who repressed anyone who didn't share their politics, language, etc. They didn't care about the environment, cultural mores, or anything since they considered their occupation as temporary. They would go back to their "real" homes when conditions improved. Several generations later, they still consider themselves as citizens of wherever they came from and just residents of Miami. Its sad. But cities are dynamic. They change and not always for the better.
You summed it up in a nutshell. I’m from New York and decided to stay in Kendall for a few months with family to test the waters. These are the most rude, arrogant and ignorant racist people I’ve ever encountered. I will never recommend Miami to live makes me view these people with a different light. They are “come m-rdas”
After being gone for close to 10 years I returned back home to my city Miami. The amount of change that has transpired throughout the years is remarkable and while a lot of the ghettos are newly renamed and have become art districts it does not take away from the truth that there are still many areas of Miami that are extremely impoverished. I currently live in Kendall and it’s still holds the same meaning as it did back then if you live in Kendall you have to have money. The truth is nobody has money out here in Miami anymore it’s so damn expensive to live! I’m proud of my city and its progress this documentary is extremely old and should be newly revamped.. @@GuerreroDomi You're missing my point. Which is that the video is mega outdated. and violent crime has been indeed higher around Ocean drive than in the area that this video is trying show. The key word is trying, and trying hard. It shows areas west along i-95. There's Tri-rail in there! come on. Tri-rail is nowhere near Little Haiti.. It was never Liberty City and west anyways.. even 20 years.. and Liberty city was never as bad as most American ghettos of the 90's.. It was horror in most American cities up north and west back then.. The video is exaggerating and romanticizing ghetto that in reality wasn't as bad as most of the country was at the time. and Little Haiti wasn't even the worst being east of i-95 at the time. Haitian Americans are very different than Americans. McDuffy riots in late 70's were not in Little Haiti and Haitian Miamians were not involved. That was strictly north American thing, and back then the population of traditional Americans were much higher in Miami. Also gentrification may not always be a good thing, but it's not being "kicked out" like for example Japanese were kicked out of their homes or native Americans. Most of the D D area were not residential tho..
@MeeshUSA yea when they talk about the shootings and the hoods in miami they always say the Haitians. Haitians came to this country for a better life. It was the Americans blacks that did all that. Liberty City Overtown is all American blacks and Coconut Grove is a mixture of Bahamians and American blacks yet they try to say they are Haitians. If I was Haitian I would be offended that's they mistake them as the American blacks that live on the west side of Dade

Heart breaking! How can a city, and a country, so rich have so much trouble? What am talking about? I know why, it's because when a kid watches people get wealthy they want it too, and by any means necessary.
And the wealthy are not willing to share their wealth with poor, uneducated, usually non-white people. The rich are against any taxes that will make them less rich in order to provide a few more benefits to the poor and oppressed.

So private wealthy folks have one cop for every 4 residents. What a tight security they have. Florida seems like a state of the extremes. It's crazy that it's illegal for poor people to ask for money and that they can be put in jail for that. Ridiculous that there are two sets of laws for the exact same thing in rich and poor neighborhoods just close to each other.
But the higher the priced house, the more taxes you pay. The more taxes you pay, the more services (i.e. security) you get. The residents pay for that level of security. Not fair, but that's the way it is.
@@flatbushbk648 I have seen in CA and New York. However the point I was trying to make is that even in FL and Texas, those seem to be the state of extremes. If the world owes someone nothing, then that should apply to rich folks as well. They get bailed out by the government pretty much all the time.. Socialism shouldn't be for the rich only.
They had 3 crimes in a year (or something like that)? And the most serious crime was a stolen golf club? That seems to imply that they have way too many police. I think that community could cut some of their force and use those funds to create jobs. But then again, those rich people in the enclave actually don't need those poor people outside, right? There are no meaningful interactions between them so I can't see any good coming from this. The song "Read about it" by Midnight Oil says it all.

Honestly a great coverage on this dynamic city. I moved here when I was young, my parents moved us from New York City to North Miami (Ives) in 1995. I grew up here and came back here after college to live as an adult. In either stage of my life, this city has evolved rapidly. So much so, as it opens whenever this video was created it is long overdue for a updated version! It's kind of the place you visit but don't live in, like the swampy jungle, its as hectic and chaotic as NYC and the setting of LA, but with hurricanes...oh, and though Miami is IN Florida, there's the CITY then there's the rest of the state lol 😆 Enjoy your stay!
Max - the activist - is spot on with what he's come up with. This docu is a few years old and obviously does NOT include the effects on so many companies by the C10-beerbug. This effected so many companies that a great deal of properties now seem empty having closed down and been vacated. So, Why aren't empty warehouses, empty buildings used to help with homelessness legitimately with local authority help? There always appears to be plenty of them. It's likely that it would surely be cost effective to get people housed and help them re-imagine and sort out these empty spaces enough, that with some investment each person could be settled. I understand it's never simple to fix anything in this world, but surely this idea is in the right direction. I've been homeless in two major cities in Europe many years ago, so I know it can be hell to have no home. I wanted to jump off a certain bridge having given up, but was fortunate to have been saved and that is all way back in my history.
lol you’re essentially describing reopening the workhouses… Buildings that big can’t be unproductive. Edit: You know, it’s not that bad of an idea if people really do want a place to sleep with a roof over their head, and they don’t mind working hard for 10-14 hours a day for minimum wage. I mean, if they don’t want to be living in a van on BLM land or are at rock bottom already or something, having the option for going to a workhouse would be okay imo. Just as long as nobody kills you while you’re sleeping and that’s never allowed to become a problem (they get guards while sleeping). Sure, reinstate the workhouses. Keep no actual cash at the workhouse. The heating and cooling for an old factory, were not built to be heated or cooled and so cannot be efficiently heated or cooled and won’t be because it’s not cost-effective. You could maybe outfit a part of the building for residential use, but the main part of the building would still have to be for production-with the windows open and fans for ventilation-just like the old days because these are poor people and somebody has to pay for this but if it’s not practical nobody’s going to do it _because_ it’s not practical and if it’s not energy-efficient, it’s not green and it’s not going to be permissible for the 2020s. Just to keep the building open as a workhouse. Most of the building would be not climate controlled. I wonder if this would be acceptable in this day and age. I mean, clearly they wouldn’t be bullied for being poor anymore, I think that part of workhouses would forever get retired. It’s still a stigma because of what they were, but that’s motivation enough to not want to stay and make it a permanent thing for people, but more of a get on your feet thing. I have often mused the workhouses need to make a comeback, not that we want them back, but it seems like they are needed. If you ask these homeless people if they want to be jobless, they usually say they don’t want to be jobless, but you have to have a physical address to get a job first usually, and that is true. So I don’t think workhouses are bad, I think treating people who end up at workhouses poorly is bad. Because I think a lot of these homeless people really might actually want jobs and they might not mind working themselves out of their homelessness. They just need to have a chance, if we don’t even have workhouses to give them a chance, how do they get a chance? It’ll further separate the homeless people into two distinct groups. There will be the disabled homeless people and the formerly homeless able-bodied workhouse residents-who will pity those on the outside as it should be. But it’ll show who needs the most help and get potentially thousands of people off the streets and busy being busy in the most efficient way possible. Oh. And you could get people to get really busy working like that because after their 40 hours minimum wage, they get a substantial enough pay increase for overtime that makes them feel it’s worth it for them to work 14 hours a day on the days they work. It’s better than doing nothing or being on drugs or getting into trouble on the streets.
Do volantry work and acts of kindness and generosity and support people who are lost AND depressed and homeless and preaxh the scriptures to people who are lost
Those cops all look significantly older than they are. It's clear many of them are unhealthy, lacking sleep and exercise. Stress eating is something I've also noticed in first responders as well as drug and alcohol use for stress management. It's no easy life and many of them are exhausted and jaded by the monotonous violence and misery they see everyday.
Don't need someone with a cheap European accent explaining The Haves and Have Nots of Miami, that's no different than any other major city in the United States, you'll find the Haves and Have Nots they're also, if you open your eyes and look close enough you will see the same thing all around the world. The only difference is the United States government likes to keep it that way so that one political party can control the plantation, give them just enough to survive on without having to work for it and you'll have 90% voter participation from one particular group
Voting rates of the poor are much lower. If that strategy worked so well dem power wouldn't have declined so much. They absolutely dominated the state and federal level for most of last century.

I have two issues with this; actually more than that, but I don’t feel like doing a lot of typing. Question #1. Are there any poor white neighborhoods and white drug addicts? #2 How is it I couldn’t get on the plane with a bottle of victory secrets perfume, but drugs keep wondering into the US?
There are thousands and thousands of poor whites in this country. I want to say millions, and I wouldn't be exaggerating. Their neighborhoods are full of the same issues as any other poor neighborhood, but one wouldn't think that's the case with the way the media and others focus away from that. Drugs permeate those communities as well but Blacks make up most drug arrests because of the extremely selective "law enforcement. "
@@call_me_kay yeah ok. Her point was well taken because we understand that poor white people and white drug addicts are normally not shown by the media. You had the answers in your first comment even thought you just mentioned that you're not American. Carry on
This seems to be the case all over USA. Super-wealthy people, and a lot of really poor people. Thats not really how it is here in Europe. Here (especially in Scandinavia) we dont really have any homeless people (i mean we do, but they are so few that you wont see them). USA is the richest country in the world, with the richest state being California, and there is still a lot of homelessness making some parts look like a 3td world country. A lot of the people who are homeless in California actually moved from other parts of the country to take advantage of the generous public charity richer States like California and New York can provide.

Strong Towns have written numerous articles about the financial insolvency of both rich and poor areas of Miami. Rich people tend to congregate in villas, mansions, party districts and high rises that are not financially productive to city budgets/revenue. Then you got poor areas that are locked in a state of permanent decline (i.e.: strict zoning codes), drugs, crime, violence, and the overall lack of education. The only financially productive areas of Miami are the Streetcar Suburbs built in the pre-WW2 era. So how does the city of Miami pay for all the expenses of police, fire fighting, paramedics etc.? Don't worry the super rich who own the Politicians will just have them make a law that demonizes the homeless and criminalizes them in order to arrest them and take them to death camps. Once all the undesirables and POOR useless eaters are rounded up next, they can just keep enough of us around to do their slave work and perform the essential tasks that make their privileged life worth living. We are just a number to them and be easily led to the slaughter. Money is in control not people. We are easy replaceable.

@@KT-pe6zh So true.

@@GuerreroDomi You're missing my point. Which is that the video is mega outdated. and violent crime has been indeed higher around Ocean drive than in the area that this video is trying show.

I wanted to jump off a certain bridge having given up, but was fortunate to have been saved and that is all way back in my history.
lol you’re essentially describing reopening the workhouses…
Buildings that big can’t be unproductive.
Thank goodness for caring people like Max !
It's easier for them to just hide, then k!'ll off the problem.

There are thousands and thousands of poor whites in this country. I want to say millions, and I wouldn't be exaggerating. Nothing ever changes or will change. Indian Creek is just Nottingham Castle. Do you think the Sherriff of Nottinghams men let anybody in the castle without giving them the treatment. Do you think in a thousand years time, all will be peace love and equality ???
This is EVERY city in the US.
Maimi and Cape Town South Africa are similar.
Id argue Miami and Durban are more alike than Miami and Cape town....for one Durban kinda looks like Miami areas like umahanga rocks and the beaches Also crime n poverty being right around the from corner from nicer areas. Ex Wentworth (a place with crime n gang violence) right around the corner from the Bluff (the beach/nicer area) also Durban is tropical and full of trees n greenery similar to Miami.
@@kmackbryce5801 I have visited but never lived in Durban. However the super rich and super poor is very visible in Cape Town.
The British make the best documentaries even Amrican one better than us Americans. That's why I like watching when the British make documentaries and movies and media news shows . I'm been a big fan for decades now.
The Brits food is terrible.
So there!
😉
@@kastaway2 British food is some of the best in the world. The standards of food is high and has traditional foods and dishes that have been influenced from around the world. Many foods can't be import into the UK from the USA because of the lows standards. How many British chefs are on TV shows around the world? And everyone around the world knows British dishes.

I agree. British doccies are the best
If people try to leave alternatively it can work by a piece of land build a tiny house do van life live alternatively and live right over the RV there's plenty of ways to live simple and small..
For a free country there are a lot of restrictions.
Freedom isn't for the poor.
The poor have a lot of nerve demanding and taking stuff from hard working people. Eff the poor and those who have a problem with my comment.
the whole usa is like this thank goodness we live in canada
Exactly, USA is overrated.
lol and all the rich canadians are in miami for the entire winter. The amount of ontario and quebec license plates in all of south florida is ridiculous. You'd think Canada was a bordering state.
Canada is the same.
Canada is nice, are they still digging up Native American babies in mass graves up there?
Stay there and deal with your Chinese problem.
Why aren’t the men of the community policing it and keeping the women and children safe? Ooh, I forgot, the men are the perpetrators 🤦🏽♀️
“The men are the perpetrators”?
The women procreate with them so who’s right and who’s wrong here?Tell the truth those women like men with some thug in them.
All men lol? That's some male hating bias right there lol.
the black Barbie sounds like a bit of self hate and insecurity there just with the name alone. Love yourself and heal then ditch the “Barbie” shackles
Ma’am, have several seats, preferably a seat in the back. I’m talking about the gang banging drug dealing, drive by shooting having men in their community, that are deleting women and children. But good luck to them.
Once again, a man worried about the wrong thing. There’s nothing self hating about me. I’m having a great time. Now run along and go build something for your community. Maybe a grocery store, hospital, housing. Instead of being on the internet worrying about a strangers RUclips handle.
The prime example of the people who have it all and the people who have nothing.
... I visited "overtown" once. I was terrified n couldn't wait to leave the area. My skin folk were living up to every stereotype
I know what you mean . I experienced that in Oakland. Was terrified of stopping at the red light. Pimps gangbangers etc car jackers etc
South Beach since COVID has become much more Opa Locka. Everyone I know has moved to the new playground, Brickell.
Please. These people want free free free. Get a job and make a way. That's how you get respect. Sorry this pisses me off. It doesn't help long-term. Public housing=new ghetto
You need to stop it.
Unless you make 250k or above the rest of the world considers you just as "ghetto" as those you are bemoaning.
It's much deeper than "just get a job". It's training, education etc, etc. I live in NYC where average one bedroom are $2.5k.
I doubt any job will cover that. Those are career situations & a mortgages for those with adequate credit.
@@Abenigfilms Do it and stop bitching. I went through school and worked 2 jobs. No support or back up. Paid off my loans by working and not spending my money on BS. No debt at 31 and I live a comfortable life without begging. If you want to thrive then nothing is an obstacle

Ha, the lil Jit @19:47 wanted to beat up the camera man. Fists ready to brawl. This video looks like 2007 -2010. The cars and the 2 cell phones: Blackberry ( Sp?) and the French dude who owned the posh Night club whipped out a flip phone. Ive lived here since 1979 and the degree of wealth vs poor is staggering.
That security system is prison-like.
Yes ppl exchange their freedom for “security”. You can’t even visit neighbors ? That’s crazy
This is every city, everywhere.
It’s funny how the richest and most desirable cities in the US are the most DIVERSE! There’s a reason why there’s no economic opportunity in Topeka Kansas, or other stagnant all yt cities😂 everyone clammoring to be to Miami, the most diverse city in Florida. Why aren’t they clammoring to get to those rural red towns on dirt roads in Florida?🤔
Your safe on your tier. Go down a couple levels and see how diversity is really working out.
You are blind to the problem.
More likely part of the problem.
@@dolemites_chain chynaese from asia here but not chyna.....
but if u seperate the diversity down to its individual components and de compartmentalise it.....u will realise the diversity is just a facade,a false illusion.....in the wonderful streets of california, 87% of the homeless on the streets are certain diversity, while those living in bay area are rich white and beautiful with a sprinkling of asian here and there.

@Belltown Daisy Except the city is going underwater. And now the rich are buying land on higher ground in places like Little Haiti now.

Not rich people! Every American city has become highly federalized depending on the Feds to bail them out with money. Truly a sad state we find ourselves in.
This documentary is from 2008… 🙄
So?
I know documentaries must be edited for content and length, but NO mention was made of how many in the posh Miami Beach areas get their money because of the sake of cocaine. The rich get richer from the wholesale market of illegal drugs and the poor get poorer by reselling, rampant usage and crime.
