    Thank you so much Julia. I'm still fighting to try to do this entrance to the two foot spin. By know I cannot even do a complete pivot turn. I will try next time from the hockey position you mentioned, because I think it can help me to start the pivot with some momentum. Probably my main problem is that I cannot control my upper body and it moves as soon as I start to do the pivot. Thank you very much for your time and patience.

    Coach Julia I've just restarted figure skating as a larger-bodied adult. Do you have any tips for learning a one foot glide?

  • @commandercody38
    @commandercody38 3 года назад

    I had no idea how similar my solowheel really is to ice skating. This should be easy enough to start learning to spin. At least I have something I can use to practice with ice skating in mind instead of relying on the gyroscope for balance front to back. I'm starting to get used to balancing side to side and front to back on skates now. Now I think it's blade control. Turning feels less controlled than it does on my wheel but that's probably due to blade control.

    • @CoachJulia

      Part of that is just lots of practice, but you can think about pushing back with your inside shoulder to create more rotation.

    • @CoachJulia

  • @stefaniaponitz5738
    @stefaniaponitz5738 4 года назад

    Squeeze back in aha that's what I kept forgetting as I was trying it on roller skates, it makes me lose control. I had a bad fall. I'm going to try again today after a week of rest. I do think it's quite hard to get enough pressure on the leg that makes the half swizzle while the main pressure is on the foot that's standing still. Should I strengthen my inner thigh for that?

    • @CoachJulia
      @CoachJulia  4 года назад

      Great observation, skating does take very strong inner thighs. if you can strengthen them, it will help you.

  • @alexsk8tesss
    @alexsk8tesss 3 года назад

    In a hockey glide do you balance on your forward or back foot? For me I find it easier to put my right foot behind me and balance on my front foot. however with other people they seem to do the opposite

    • @CoachJulia
      @CoachJulia  3 года назад +2

      It really depends on what you are doing the hockey glide for. If you are going into a spin, then usually the weight is on the left(front) foot. If you are doing it more artistically, then the weight is usually on the right(back) foot.

    • @SunrisePicturesint

    • @CoachJulia

      The glide at the beginning is actually called a ‘hockey glide’ do definitely can be done on Hockey skates. The pivot part would be a little tricky since you need a toe pick. But you may be able to modify it and make it work. Try it out and let me know how it goes!
