  • Hello Skaters! Welcome back, today’s tutorial is a fun one! I am going to show you how to do three variations on a basic figure skating lunge. You will learn how to do a lunge that starts forwards and turns backwards midway through. You will learn how to get into a lung while skating backwards, and you will learn ho to go into a beautiful knee slide from a forward lunge. Super fun. If you haven’t learned how to do a basic forwards lunge yet, check out this tutorial..... • Learn To Do a Forward ...
    You may want some knee pads for the lunge slide, I like these ballet knee pads because they are thin and flexible which makes them easy to move in, while still cushioning your knee. Ballet knee pads... amzn.to/32lVVhx

    Love this video! So much more to learn, skating backward. The 3 turn still scares me a bit but with continued progress I'll make it one day :D My rink is also closed for the season so I'm roller skating at the moment and last week I managed to skate backward for the first time. I'd love to see more with your coach! Maybe a little interview how your skating journey has gone, what you've struggled with to learn, what you're a natural at, proudest moments, stuff like that would be great to see :D

    I accidentally discovered one of your videos yesterday, and I couldn't stop binging🙈😀 I cannot describe how much I loved them all! How short, to the point, and detailed your instructions are, also the amount of repetition of certain parts of each move - it's just perfect!
    A few years back myself and my husband decided we were tired of YOLOing the fun moves and went to adult lessons to "learn the tricks the proper way". It was definitely helpful to see some drills, but every time I'd do something more challenging that wouldn't be 100% perfect my coach would just tell me that something was wrong and wouldn't point to a specific issue, needless to say she'd do the whole combination without pointing to some common mistakes. And I remember longing for an explanation like the ones you provide in every video.
    I'm so happy I found your channel! Now that the rinks are finally open, we will be definitely doing a follow-along. Thanks so much and happy holidays from the North❤

    I have a question! How do you get out of that last lunge "gracefully"? Because you kind of end up with no speed in the end...

    Is the lunge with 3 turn an easy way to learn a 3 turn because you're already near the ice surface and won't fall very far if you stuff it up?

    • @CoachJulia
      @CoachJulia  4 года назад +5

      That’s one of the things that is so great about lunges, if you mess up, you are already so close to the ice that you won’t fall very far! if you need to learn your three turns, I will have a tutorial on that coming up on Sunday August 2nd!

      @CoachJulia I'm coming back to this coach coz your comment motivated me and recreational skaters are amazed by my basic forward lunge with aesthetic arms and being able to get up immediately from being so far low and continue transitioning into a c step (formerly mohawk) and back crossovers etc😂 I have learned so much from you and adult skaters always know you if I mention your name and I'm all the way in NY

    How do you get up after the 3rd variation? Like, to smoothly transition back into skating

    Omg I really want to try these. I’ve been seeing young advanced skaters lunging a lot at my ice rink. Which one is easier? I would start with the easiest one first. 😅

      I can't say which one is easier exactly, but the knee slide is super fun so you should try that!

    Can it be done with inline skates ??

    • @iitstre_4550
      @iitstre_4550 Год назад

      I mean… sorta, you’ll have to adjust certain positions and you’ll need more speed due to how much friction will be there. But technically yes.

    Stretching on the ice rink wall is just a bad idea and I'm going to suggest that it should be avoided by everyone, but certainly coaches should not instruct students to do it. You are using the wall like you would a barre in ballet class, but the wall and the ice and your skates are all very different from a barre, the floor, and shoes. You can't grip that wall like you can a barre. You can't wrap your fingers around it, making it a flimsy support. Look at coach's position at 0:56. Her front teeth are 12" from the corner of that railing and heading in its direction. If she were to slip with her left skate, and how likely is a student to do that?, BAM instant trip to the oral surgeon for posts and two or more prosthetic teeth. Bad idea.

      Honestly, in my 35 years on the ice and my 17 years of coaching I have never even once seen that happen. I am not saying it couldn’t, but I have coached hundreds of kids, seen thousands of falls and never one like that. I used to manage a skating program with over 1,000 skaters in it. Still never saw a fall like that.
