  • Have you ever seen a "tassel ear" on a corn plant? These odd-looking and unwanted abnormalities are made of both ear (female) and tassel (male) components. Normal tassels are 100% male, and normal ears are 100% female.
These "tassel ears" at the top of the plant are the result of a mistake in the process of selectively aborting either male or female flowers based on the position of the inflorescence on the corn plant. Tassel ears are more common in tillers (branches) than on main plants.
In this video, I'll show you some tassel ears, talk you through the development process, and give examples of problems that these structures can cause!

Is the particular hybrid more susceptible than others. Also plant population. Over breed hybrids.
Would also love to see leaf sample results for actual plant nutrition as some say tillers can be a result of good fertility. But I’m no expert. Would be interesting to see what conclusions are found.
