ahh yes. my partner is from the cook islands Aitutaki.
and he was telling me about this shrimp but didnt know the name.
i searched and finally good to see a vid. and my partner explained how in the islands they would use hooks to catch them.
almost the same as these guys. and also how his grandad would make a crown or chiefs headpiece for the chief of the island back in their daya.
my parrner was pretty happy to see this vid now that were livin in aus.
island men loving their island life of fishing.
    thanks for the video

No, there are 2 types of mantis shrimps the spearer and the smasher. The one caught in this is a spearer as u can see its spiked forearms whereas the smasher type has no spikes but rather a hammer like claw.

There are two types of mantis shrimp
1.) Smashers punch their prey to death with an ungodly speed close to that of a .44m bullet
2.) Spear shrimp hide beneath the surface and wait for any passing fish such as the one seen in the video
Despite their appearances they are good to eat, and look absolutely beautiful depending on the species you're looking at *(Peacock Mantis Shrimp)*

Before you comment that it looks "ugly" go search things about them, they can be more interesting and beauty than you think, like, they can see LOTS of colors, that we cannot see. And they are super fast, like if we could accelerate our arms at 1/10 that speed we'd be able to throw a baseball into orbit. They're not that bad, maybe it doesn't look so pretty but that doesn't mean they're monsters.
