    OMG this was extremely helpful! Thank you so much! Also pursuing anesthesiology. Question: is it risky to apply only categorical?

      I don’t think so! I applied 3 years ago, and at that time, people were talking about how there was a shift to make them all categorical. It’s certainly nice not having to move again!

    i want to do 3 year internal medicine program. which should I apply- categorical vs preliminary?

      In your case, if you want to do Internal Medicine, I would only apply to the categorical positions.
      If (in March during the match process) you don't match, then you might consider "scrambling" into a prelim internal medicine position. If you're at that point though, I'd definitely talk to an advisor in Internal Medicine who can give advice specific to you.
