- Explanation on how to change the tail light cluster and re-pin the ECB connector on FIAT Punto MK2 car. Easy when you know how!
Of course I meant a 'screw driver', not 'pliers', at the point in the video where I picked up the tool.
I've bought my new light connector for £6 I'm ready to fit it tomorrow. I'll let you know how I get on. Using your video of course!!
Thanks a lot for this video David! I had the same exact problem. Before going to the scrap yard and paying an unreasonable amount for the back cover and an ECB, one can try cleaning the contacts which are corroded. I did this in 5 minutes and it's working fine now. Open it up, get a small flat-head screwdriver and scrape some of the corrosion away on both sides (ECB and back cover). I didn't have electrical contact cleaner or WD-40 on hand, so I used what I had which was Brake Cleaner (use at own risk as can damage plastics and what not). After spraying on the contacts I blew at the remaining residue to quickly evaporate it before doing any damage. Then scrape some of the dissolved corrosion away. Also, the terminal metal in the ECB of the ground wire was too opened up, and it wasn't making a good connection. So using your method of unplugging the terminal from the connector, I could close the 2 metals towards each other. So far so good, no more christmas lights! Thanks again, David!
After a day of troubleshooting a short circuit using a multimeter, I found the same problem as Russell: ground terminal in ECB was too opened up and not making a good connection. Unplugged terminal and squeezed connector tighter BUT this is not a permanent solution. When unplugged (to replace a blown bulb) the terminal remains open and has to be squeezed shut again. In addition, I hot-glued the connector into place because the plastic catches had worn away and, again, stoping the terminal making a good connection.
Thank you very much!!!! Very useful instrucion Simple once you know how.
To answer your comment at the end, YES, you’ve been extremely helpful.
I, for one, really appreciate you taking the time to explain this. I have this exact issue on my son’s Grande Punto. 👍👍
I am really glad to sort this dash light. After spending 2 hrs checking all the connections, i changed all the bulbs but problem was still there but after watching your video sort my problem in less than 5 minutes 👌👊🏾. You are a gentleman. God bless you 🙏
That's whats fun with RUclips..there always seems to be an answer t5o one's problem somewhere! Glad to help!
great prof , thank you so much
This was certainly useful to me David so many many thanks for your exertions!
Thank you very much David. I have a Fiat Grande Punto and my rear left indicator light isn't working. I suspected it was corrosion as I've taken the rear light holder out a few times and got it working again but this time no joy and the bulb isn't blown. Thank you for explaining how to swap the ECB connector. And also for giving us the name of it so I can know it's called. Will also try to scrape off any corrosion and see if that works too.
Great vid
Just what I was hoping to find ,thanks a great help
graham farleck Thanks for the comment..the tail cover cost me 10 Euro from the yard !
Thanks so much for this video David. One of my pins was terribly corroded, I'd tried cleaning it but no good and thanks to you I've just re-pinned the plug on my Fiat Grande Punto and everything working and legal again.
Great video! Thanks!
