My favorite part of the trailer is when Mario says “I’m not afraid, I’ll do anything for my brother” because I was so worried they were gonna do the whole animated movie trope of two brothers hating each other and then having to realize how much they care about each other by the end of the movie but it looks like they are already gonna be great brothers to each other from the start of the movie
Nah dude I don't think that trope even went through their heads, that would be plainly insulting.
as much as i love luigi and hate mario cuz hes a basic bitch (dont come for me i just want luigi to have his moment to shine) luigi could never hate mario lol and vice versa
i actually initially thought that trope was gonna be used. almost like Hook (1991)
I really hope they don't even HINT at that trope. From experience, the trope isn't completely unrealistic, but by god is it overused and am I tired of it
There is also the bond between the two brothers through absolutely everything that Nintendo made with them, it would be entirely unrealistic to have that trope in play.
This movie just had the Mario + Rabbids effect.
Everyone thought it was gonna be terrible because, Rabbids (illumination in the movie's case). And then it was actually very fun.
I love the Mario + Rabbids series so much.

Chris Pratt's voice is based on the Mario from the 80s cartoon, and I wish more people recognized it, I for one think that's awesome. Also I like how this movie revisits a concept not touched upon since the early games in the series: that Mario was originally from a fairly mundane earth, and got yanked sideways through reality to the mushroom kingdom before having to ease his way into the role of a hero. He and Luigi were originally ordinary plumbers.

the luma is really dark because of the fact that when lumas die, they just get reborn as another luma (canon), so they have no issues with being killed off like bowser would do IRL
Fun fact: Mario and Luigi’s last name is canonically “Mario” so celebrating Luigi makes perfect sense.
And yes, Mario’s full name is “Mario Mario”

@Firemad69 honestly i think Koopa Troopas are the most iconic Mario enemy, but yeah, Goombas are right up there and it would be wrong for Bowser's army not to have either.

I like to think they took inspiration from Mario Bro Z on the choreography. It felt very reminiscent and show a very widespread of possibilities with that short cut of the scene
That kart hijacking scene makes this movie worth any flaws Illumination might curse it with.

Y’know, I’m starting to like Chris Pratt more as Mario. I like how he can give a realistic impression of what Mario would sound like if he was actually just a dude from Brooklyn, while also occasionally pulling off some pretty banger Mario noises like “Wahaa!” and “Wahoo!”
Of course, he’s no Charles Martinet. But I’d say he’s a pretty darn good stand-in for a movie version of the character.
I'd feel like high-pitched-Charles-Martinet-Mario will get pretty annoying after 30 minutes, now that's just my opinion
There's a Charlie martinet cameo in the movie so I wonder if the Wahoo in the trailer was from him
We all love Charles Martinet in the games, but there's a difference between those short quips and the dialogue needs for a full movie. Pratt does a good everyman-turn-hero which is what this Mario is, before he rose to be THE MARIO.

Some people might not have saw it, unless you did, but when DK gets the fire flower, you can see mario with a mushroom, and as DK uses the fire flower, Mario uses the mushroom and gets bigger. Just wanted to tell yall because it's a pretty cool touch.

Seeing all the slight details in how Mario moves is awesome. He has a familiar running animation when he picks up the mushroom, there’s the ground pound, and the iconic Mario jump when he stomps on the koopa.

8:13 Wait….. it’s an old temple, with the three slots for Chasis, Wheel, and Glider. Quite possibly underneath the colosseum the kongs live in? Perhaps why they’re visiting the kongs in the first place, Peach and Cranky make a deal to have their champions battle?
i've been thinking about that for a while, that Peach had gone to DK Island to get the Kongs' help against Bowser and Cranky was maybe like, "ok, as long as your champion (Mario) proves himself worthy against our champion (DK)".
That would explain why the kongs are always with them, shown with their own karts. We never see just the main story characters in the karts alone, they're always shown with kongs with their own unique karts. Perhaps you're correct, nice catch.
I’m so happy to see Charlie Day playing a part in this movie! I’m a fan of “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” and he’s always played the funny character Charlie Kelly in that! Chris Pratt is a great choice actually. I know most people would prefer the Italian voice for Mario. Though it’s good to try out something different for Mario and I do like it.
Anyone else notice those last 3 notes at the very end of the trailer?

Just throwing this out there: In the army fly-over shot at 7:03 you can clearly see a Shyguy on the left side of the screen amidst the Koopas. I believe I also see two Sledge Bros from Mario 3's world 4 just above the center of the shot as well.

Dude could you imagine fire flower powered Donkey Kong in a Country game setting.
Being able to roll with a fiery blaze making it roll even longer than normal while leaving a trail of fire also.
Or when he slams the ground just causes a fiery quake or wave of fire like Terry Bogard. This opens up so much potential for great things in a 2D Mario or DK game that I hope ends up happening.

Kinda off topic but tbh I can see them adding those karts into 8 Deluxe in April as a free update, and my guess is they’ll also drop Kamek as a character. (The karts will be free for everyone but Kamek will be a tie in to the BCP).

This looks really cool but I've some concerns:
- How does Luigi not know where he's in that cage? They've been fighting Bowser forever
- This seems less like a movie for the old time fans and more like a "lets make a movie for people who've no idea who Mario is to boost sales then try and please the fans with some nods" instead of a full-blown love letter
Fire dk was hype. He’s never had a mario powerup before. But also can we just appreciate that smooth mushroom power up animation mario has?
first i was not very excited for chris pratt to voice Mario, but you can tell they listened to the fans. its still chris but you can hear that they worked on the WAHOO’s and the excitement of mario.
The joke about jumping kart to kart and breaking necks is a real game called Pursuit Force, it also has a sequel, and it’s on PSP. Amazing game.

Let's be honest, even if this movie is bad (which it probably won't be) this will make so much money. Like this thing is going to blow up Hollywood, no doubt about it

that's true enough, otherwise Michael Bay would be a bum in the streets.
Its also catering to a wide general audience quite well from what I can see, and from seeing other peoples, (non active game players,) reactions. Its also gathering mainstream media attention, also attention even on television shows, and more! I definitely see from how well they're marketting it, the attention its garnering, the hype it has behind it, and how they're catering to general audiences it may make it quite far. Even in a relatively dying film industry.
This was epic, absolutely hyped. Imagine if we got future installments that went into the RPG stories like Super Paper Mario, or Mario and luigi
Considering how story heavy those games are, (mainly referring to Paper Mario, which is even called "Mario Story" in japan;) I geniunely would not mind a unique artstyle, and perspective based Paper Mario film.
