RIP Akira Toriyama
RIP Akira Toriyama 🙏🏽
He went even further beyond, and made the media get a zenkai boost.
May he rest in power.
Rest in peace, one of the legends of our time.
May he rest in the most peaceful way possible.
"the us disliked that"
That got me so hard
Editor got hands
it got you so what
The US just called, they want their oil back.

1:52 it's a Japanese thing. Any kind of worker always has a hard hat on, even the guy just holding the slow down/stop sign when there's road work, even if he's in no danger of anything falling on his head.
Huh. That's weird. I wonder why they'd include that in tasks that don't need a hard hat. It DOES make sense in a factory setting though, since machinery can fall apart over time.
I've never seen a road worker directing traffic who didn't wear a hard hat.
@@supersmily5811 I work in a car factory here in Japan. You think you don't need a hard and sweaty helmet but sometimes a door can fall on your head (one fell on my husband's head last month), an object can hit you hard... You never know what's going to happen, better safe than sorry
Gotta love how Donkey Kong in this game is basically every amiibo hunter in the mid-2010's.
The power of FOMO is a dangerous tool, indeed.
Bro DK is just like me fr
Fomo? A lot of them were scalpers
Here's a trick I learned when I was younger on how to remember stalactites vs stalagmites. StalaCtites are on the Ceiling, and stalaGmites are on the Ground.
21:30 btw
I will remember this forever.
@Choctopus I guess you never watched little Einsteins as a kid, 2000s difference is real both good and bad
stalactites hang tight
@@TurbopropPuppy Was gonna say how i remember it is it's "tight" that they hang on the ceiling, and you "might" trip on a stalagmite lol
Fun fact, every time mario got stunned from a fall you would have died in the original
There are some heights where He gets a short stun but doesnt SNAP His Neck in the original
@@tompeter717 There IS death from falling in the original, and the stun from falling was nerfed here as well.
The height you'd die from is the stun height now, and death height doesnt exist
@@javierascanio4309 yeah thats what i Said. I now what i mean, i Played the original Like a week ago
I almost thought they got rid of fall damage entirely because half the falls I’ve seen people take would’ve resulted in such. It’s not a big deal but it makes the game feel too easy now. I prefer the original game’s fall damage/deaths.
The voice clips in Mario vs DK are recycled from what I can tell. Since it was on the GBA, so it made sense why Charles Martinet's voice is the same voice
Kevin did a fine job but Charles is much better capturing the character.
@@PhilosophicallyAmericanKevin really only shines as Luigi, his vocal range isn't crazy enough to play Mario
@@RushWheeler Choc said his Mario sounds like Mickey Mouse and now I can't dislodge that notion.
When I went to see The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie back in 2004, we got there so early that the previous screening was just ending. when the people were on their way out from it, I snuck in just to watch the credits, and...something in that theater was magic.
This was back in 2004 when credits were still normally just black with white text, so the having yellow text and footage of crashing waves in the background, waves that big on a screen that big, was mesmerizing.
SpongeBob & Patrick Confront the Psychic Wall of Energy by the Flaming Lips,
Just a Kid by Wilco
But then... Hearing The Best Day Ever for the first time floored me for the simple fact that SpongeBob got to sing a credit song for his own movie. Credits were different back then and this was unheard of at the time.
And then at the very end, again we take mid and end credit bonus scenes for granted nowadays thanks to Marvel, but in 2004 it wasn't something you could expect, so that end credit scene with the Pirates, being the only one left in the theaters to catch it, I felt like I saw a UFO. And this was all before actually Seeing the movie itself from the start.
That's my most core memory watching a movie in theaters.
I remember having my own sort of cool theater experience with The Incredibles 2. I remember whenever the baby, Jack Jack would teleport out of existence, the speakers made it sound like he was floating around the auditorium, where we were watching the movie. It was so convincing that I looked up, to see if Jack Jack was actually there. There’s something about watching movies in the theater that just can’t be replicated on physical media, and streaming.
@@Kaisona2017 I had that very specific experience with Monsters Inc (2001)
When the helicopters were flying outside of Mike and Sulley's apartment, it sounded like they were flying around outside above the theater. I remember it being the first time theater speakers sounded That real to me.
You gotta play the inspiration for these games that’s on the OG Gameboy, Donkey Kong ‘94. That game is so ahead of its time and had so many mechanics. That game truly deserves a remake.
I actually have never played DK94
@@Choctopus trust me it’s worth, I had it as a child and I spent hours on it. It gets harder down the road but it eases you into it.
@@Choctopus P.S. keep up the great work and content.
Yeah that game is really good
It's shocking how big that game was.
Man, Dragonball and especially Dragonball Z was huge in my childhood. Even my mom watched it. I remember her complaining about Cell not fucking dying after what Goku had to do, lol. We even liked GT for the most part.
Lost my mom last year and now Toriyama is gone, too. It sucks, man.
sorry for your loss
I'm sorry for your loss, and also based on how Cell described how he survived the self-destruct attack, he SHOULD have died to that Kamehameha from Goku in that fight.
the only game I've played in this series is Mini-Land Mayhem, which has completely different gameplay. In that game the minis are doing the levels, but they move automatically and you can only control them by making paths and walls for them. I remember it being pretty fun tbh, it's just a LOT of micromanaging.
Yeah, when I heard they were remaking a Mario vs donkey Kong game, I thought it would be one of those. I didn’t realize there were other entries in the series
sounds vaguely lemmings-esque
I think they remade this game *most* people didn't ask for is because they wanted to "test the waters"
Like, seeing if people like this playstyle and want more of these games n' stuff.
nahhhh man there's no way they made this game as an excuse so they don't have to make a new 3D Donkey Kong
My Mother 3 fan part of my brain is theorizing
I don't know what to tell it.
19:19 I haven't thought abt Blue's Clues in years. Thanks for the Nostalgia
hold on I thought that was a BFDI reference
I remember playing Mario vs Donkey Kong: Minis March Again on my DSi XL and is pretty fun, but frustrating as well, good times.
“Show a little something else” that turned out to be the next Nintendo/illumination Mario movie.
After seeing the shorts that Nintendo put out to promote this game, I now want a real-life Mini-Mario toy.
For me, my emotional movie attachment was with Wall-E. Rewatching it when I was older, I realized how amazing a silent movie can be, and it's depiction of love. And to think that back when I was a kid I only liked it purely for the goofy little trash robot.
My earliest memory and introduction of Dragon Ball was when I was 6 at a friend's house in the Frieza Arc, i saw Goku transform into a Super Sayian for the first time on VHS, I remember the first time I saw him do the backpose he was doing before he was looking upwards to the screen menacingly, pissed as all hell. It was the first time I felt chills even. I'm 20 now, and each and every single day I still rewatch through all of Dragon Ball, including DBZA and GT because that's how engulfed I am into the franchise. Truly will miss Toriyama. May God let his soul rest easy.
Good god man do you sleep
Basically everyone buying Pokémon cards. 1:23
One core memory of mine is from seeing the Captain Underpants movie in theaters, the first day it aired, June 2nd. The best part about it was that it was my dad's birthday. It was one of the funniest ways to celebrate, but my family and I had a blast. Loved the movie, and I definitely recommend watching it if you haven't.
Is it just me or do the wind up gators look like mechanical yoshi heads with teeth
Yoshi
21:11 stalactites hold on tight to the ceiling, that's how i always remember it
I love how it says “so you don’t have to” but if anything, it makes me want to 100% it more.
The power of Choc’s amazing content.
Fun fact, every time mario got stunned from a fall you would have died in the original ...
Hey Choc! I love your content and I wanna say I’m so stoked that you’ve 100% Mario vs. DK, a good mix of nostalgia with the commentary of one of my favorite game personalities out here is a match made in heaven!
DK on original Gameboy is basically more of this, plus Mini Land Mayhem is the best of the Lemmings-like format for the series
Finally more choc content! Thank you choc, you make everything better. Ps could you please one day play rhythm thief and the emperors treasure? It’s an amazing 3Ds game.
10/10 editing. Put this on to fall asleep to but I can't stop watching
"i want to spread democracy" caught me so offguard
We be Helldivin'
the way mario says "let's-a go, little guys!" is so adorable aww
It's always good to see one of your videos man. Especially After my feed has been nothing but battlefront Classic rants.
Good to see RUclips recommend something lighthearted and fun😊
I beat this like 1 second ago… why did you have to post this now 😢
Oof
Mario movie 2 is coming out 2026
This game was my childhood joy in the GBA era. We didn't have the ice or carnival levels and their gimmicks, but everything else is almost exactly like the original.
Love this video I’m sick rn and it’s not to crazy on the visuals thank you
0:14 never did I think I’d see the day where halo was in one of your videos. Thank you for including that. Choc
I like the fact that Choctopus know that some of his viewer aren't Americans at all, for example : I'm from Brazil and I love his videos (Or "your videos" if Choctopus are reading this)
21:18
One way I remember differentiating the two is that stalactites hang *tightly* to the ceiling of a cave.
we really started with Aerith catching a stray
Rip Toriyama 😔
When you made the videos of Mario RPG I started playing the original version and I gotta say, I am having a boat-load of fun. Can’t wait to get the lazy shell
0:05 Brother I know FF7 is an old game but man I’m playing the remakes as they come out and…Aerith and SEPHIROTHS SWORD?!?!?!
Choctospoiler
Akira Toriyama gave me a similar amount of grief than Ash finally saying goodbye in Pokemon. I grew up with them too. RIP Akira
Never thought the eras to our childhoods would end so soon
I found you while watching Rymestyle, SeaReax and DotoDoya and i'm so happy I did. You are hilarious ❤
This series as a whole is my childhood. It’s a blast!
Heck ya love story time with choc these longer videos are awesome
Hey, Aerith and Sephiroth’s sword aren’t rivals! In fact, they’re closer than ever!
I don't have a core memory about seeing a movie in the theater, but I do have one with MvsDK and a movie.
One day I was playing a DS one, either March of the Minis or Minis March again, and I was in some of the respective metallic/magnetic levels. Well, while I was playing that, the TV on my room was in Disney XD playing the movie Mars Needs Moms. And for some reason, a snapshot of a specific part of one specific level was burned into my memory and tied to something like "Mars Needs Mom was playing at this moment". So every time I play that level I am just reminded about that movie. But sometimes even while thinking about those games, as that picture of me holding my 3DS in a specific part of the level is imbued in my memory, I sometimes just end up remembering that and thus the movie. I haven't seen that movie in years, but I know that if I encounter it again some day I will just think bak about that level accordingly. More so, I remember that said movie even exists thanks to that game and level. If not I wouldn't have remembered it at all.
I’m sure you’ve already been told this, but the other ‘Mario vs DK’/‘Mario and DK’ games are more like lemmings puzzle games rather then a puzzle platformer like this one. You should def check out Donkey Kong ‘94 on the GameBoy, it’s the true precursor to this game
I've got a core memory of going to see wreck it ralph when it came out in theatres with my grandma. she knows nothing about video games so looking back it might not have been an interesting movie to her but i had such a good time
I don't remember how old I was, but I remember I was either in middle or early high school. I went on a field trip to Washington D.C. to visit the Smithsonian Museums. In one of them was a theater, and the premiere while I was there, which I got to see, was Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian. It was an amazing experience because not only was it a good movie (and still is), but I got to go back afterwards and see all the scenes I saw in the movie live. It was an experience I'll never forget.
You should play De Blob next, then the 100%ing will truly never end
It would be really cool to see you playing Donkey Kong 94, it's so good, definitely the one who needed a remake the most. Pretty retro though, in the Gameboy's tiny screen and I don't think you do this a lot. I only remember NES remix on Sidequest in terms of you and retro stuff.
If you did play Gameboy games though, you would be legally obliged to play the Wario Land games.
Thank you for doing all these so you don’t have to things keep them up thanks bro 😊
12:47
And those flames extinguish the hell out of you.
The donuts are actually called Donut Blocks, so you weren't wrong.
Minis March Again was the only game I played but I had so much fun with it. Glad there’s a new game out
I can answer your question about the presents; in the gba original, collecting all the gifts in a level would play a minigame at the end. The gifts had different kinds of 1-up mushrooms in each of them but 1 would have a DK head and if you got that one you lost
“Why are we wearing hard hats?”
Choc has obviously never seen a Chinese workplace safety video
I would love to see a series on the original games!
As a kid I remember seeing a Mario vs DK ad in a magazine, but I misunderstood the ad so I spent the longest time looking everywhere for a mini-Mario toy
My best friend got me into dragonball through TFS's abridged when i was a freshmen highschool. I had a late start in dragonball but it's inspired so much of my creativity, and my gaming life since then that i genuinely feel like i lost a family member. You will be missed Akira Toriyama.
31:30 thanks for putting a brazilian game in the video, and also Salutations from Brazil to you
I never planned on playing it at all, but if I did, you've saved me from the mistake. If there was a god, this would be his work.
Let’s go can’t wait to watch all of it
I'm not fully done with the video but leaving this here. I distinctly remember this one time my mom took me all the way down town to the north star mall to see finding nemo at the imax theater. the movie was closed and i was crushed, but we ended up watching bruce almighty instead. I haven't watched that movie in years and probably wouldn't care for it now, but it's weirdly got a special place in my heart for that anyway. (ended up not getting to see nemo in theaters, but on the bright side, made up for that by going to see finding dory in a casa blanca theater with my best friend)
Mini land mayhem is probably the only one of the games I'd actively recommend you attempt to play imo
DragonBall honestly really came heavily into my life through the Budokai games. I played them a lot growing up, and fell in love after being able to watch it through Kai, and its just always stuck ever since. Even now, its a big part of my life
Eiffel 65 mention!! 👀👀
That first album of theirs you mentioned was one of the first CDs I bought that didn't feel "kiddie" to me lol; before that I listened to mainly German kids (and kids-adjacent) music plus Backstreet Boys but somehow, I think because my older brother was into EDM, I really heavily got into E65. Their second album (Contact) is actually my favourite :D
also man yeah, Toriyama's passing just... hurts. So much. I haven't really been into DB for a long time, but I have fond memories of it; watched the old series as a kid when the term "anime" wasn't even a thing in Germany and by the time DBZ came out over here I was pretty hooked even though I wouldn't call this kind of series my thing anymore these days by a long shot. But well, Vegeta was one of my first fictional crushes lol
also just due to all of that I kind of am where I am now; my DB-mania got me looking into the Japanese side of things, which in turn eventually led me to get a BA in Japanese Studies... doing fanart and fanfic for DBZ was where I really started with that sort of fandom interaction and they're some of my longest hobbies... Toriyama had quite the influence and it's probably not going to stop hurting for a long time...
I love your content. It just makes me happy.
I’d say something of a core memory related to seeing a movie is I remember being so excited to see Eragon in theaters when it was my favorite book series. Only for that excitement to turn into sheer disappointment as I watched.
I called it! It WAS Mario vs dk! Good work 100 percenting it!
I love how DK has a TV remote with a single big red button.
58:22 the fact that they’re actually called Donut Blocks is funny
You should definitely play Amiibo Challenge, my favorite mini Mario game
I never really got into Dragonball, but I know Toriyama had a large impact on art styles and even other franchises like Sonic. May he rest in peace. Thanks for talking about it! I didnt know very much about him but it's nice to see the impact he had on people.
We need a maker of this. So much potential.
I can't wait to see you play luigis mansion dark moon. I used to play that game a lot as a kid. Although sometimes I uses to get scared of by the purple ghosts. I would get my best friend to help me beat the dufficult levels.
2:45 had me on the flooooor
I would honestly be so happy if March of the Minis (the one where the Minis walk around and you need to puzzle solve with girders and tapping them to start) got a port.
Now all we need is a remake of the one before this
Back in the day 100% required you to not only grab every present, but also finish with a high enough score, which often involved reseting entirely if you died in the second half as the timer bonus would shorten drastically if you respawned on the second stage.
the rest of this series NEEDS more attention
well now i kinda want to see you play the other mario vs donkey kong games
“How many do you think he can fit in that bag? Twelve?”
I only saw him grab four
"Aerith and Sephiroth's Sword" isn't a rivalry, it's a universal constant.
I played this on the gameboy advance as a kid and I remember it not being at all what I was expecting but really loving it :)
I saw the last three Harry Potter films with my friend and his family. His dad jump scared me during one of the few scary parts haha. His mom loved having me around because I actually read the books and we speculated how the movies would go. That family taught me that you don't have to be blood to be family.
42:35
I have never heard this term ever but I am quickly going to add it to my vocabulary because that stuff is hilarious 😂
When Donkey Kong is involved, you know Choc is on it! 🙌 Honestly this remake was both fun and pretty challenging, I also played through the OG GBA version
21:12 You prob won't see this, but stalactites are the ones that come from the ceiling. The way I was taught to remember as a kid was that "stalactites have to hold on tight to the ceiling"
I always remembered that stalagmites are on the ground, because an M looks like two spikes on the ground.
First of All, great vid mr. Choc.
Second, i looked up "Ronaldinho Soccer 64" and to anybody to doesnt know, that aint Ronaldinho on that cover, thats R9 Ronaldo
Core movie memory: when Avatar came out, my dad and I went to see it in the cinema three times because we were so enamoured by it. I still think it’s a great film to this day - especially the special effects and world building!
I wanna see you play the time attack levels, the time attack levels are just the levels but you have to speed run and there is a timer
The dk battle in slippery summit your supposed to handstand to block the ice falling at you you made it more difficult than it was intended
I haven't played the thousand year door but I'm really exited to play it, it looks really fun
I did expert level 15 a different way. I couldn't figure out a way to toss the key. horizontally onto the blue blocks, so instead I took the key above, and then jumped onto the piranha plant while holding the key. Doing so made me drop the key and get i-frames. which I used to pick the key back up and put it on the blue blocks. And the dumbest part is that I thought that was the intended way all along.
Donkey Kong at 57:28: Oooohhhh, what does THIS button do???
I would love to see choc play either DKC tropical freeze or Banjo kazooie next
The way I see it is that rather than actually being Bowser's troops, shy guy types are more like an independent mercenary faction. Same for boos probably, they seem more about chaos than serving Bowser, plus King boo.
