This is a great interview! I met and saw Peter play in Omaha. What a gentleman. He plays with a perfect blend of finesse and power. I was blown away. Clean!
My idol when I was 14 and playing in the Pine Crest Stage Band. I used to fall asleep listening to 8:30 and Night Passage. What a gentleman and a superb musician!
What a sweetheart! As well as a great drummer. Terrific interview. (Re Ringo: The one thing he didn't mention is how perfect Ringo's personality meshed with the other three. If you've ever been in a band, you know that that's important, too.)
I saw him at five concerts of Weather Report in Europe. Those four guys were IMHO the best set up of that band. And what Peter delivered was absolutely perfect. This man deserves the highest respect. He is one of the greatest ones.
Peter is a treasure...imagine all the experience...knowledge...his work ethics...his esthetic in a phrasing...his touch on instrument...his sound...any time we can hear this man talking is great chance to learn...
Peter’s father was my student at Stockton College and shared this snapshot (8:37 in the video) with me. I made a kodalith of it. I had been experimenting with color xerox images at the time. About 30 years ago I went looking for it to create an electronic image on the Amiga. But never found it.
Remember watching him play with the Yellowjackets in London years ago, presumably as a late ring-in. Initially I was disappointed to learn this, but was completely bowled over by the end of the first piece. Pure class.
I saw him play with the Jackets here in the States too. Pretty sure he was just filling in while they were transitioning between drummers. Will Kennedy had quit and they hadn't found Marcus Baylor yet.
So underrated? Peter is world famous, he played in some of the best bands in the World. Everybody who saw Peter playin will never forget. He is simply not a Popstar...

Beautiful Pete, just listening to, 'You Never Know' , & 'Motion Poet '
My favorite groove of Erskine’s is on a tune called “Volcano For Hire” from the 1982 record called “Weather Report”. Such an amazing drummer.
Amazing drummer
I remember when I heard him with Stan Kenton who featured him on a song Pee Is A Four Letter Word.
also my favorite !
"The Beatles, yeah, maybe they should hire Elvin..." LMAO
I saw him playing with Jaco in a small club. Amazing drummer so underrated
