What am I missing? Why can I (a simple gamer) predict all these AAA flops years in advance with 95% accuracy while thousands of professionals drown in their delusion and slowly erode the entire industry?
Because those "professionals" tend to be foreigners to actually playing games, to say nothing of developing them, and are too high up on the corporate ladder to listen to reason.
Also why some small team of regular joe gamers bootstrap cash to create a decent indie game, and can either have a decent sustainable game that gives a good ROI, or hit it big if they have the magic sauce. No big bloat, your really sensitive to most reviews, your playing other games yourself outside of the niche so you bring things in from outside, your other devs have games they play which are niche as well, if its a team right out of the right college you have a modest collection of a good range of skills and techniques for very low wage costs, and very low opportunities for out of touch double bind managers who want to take credit for every good thing regardless of their input or lack of it, and disavow negative publicity regardless of their input or lack of it. Basically the very opposite of our hierarchial corporate system, where there's a huge D/s findom culture. Apparently what makes the best gameplay is young creative people who treat others equally, who aren't too greedy, who are humble enough to take criticism as a learning opportunity, and are willing to work collaboratively with others who do things differently. Ah, creativity, the bane of every large corporation everywhere. Playing it safe, into the grave.

Their Pandering to minorities and hopes to reach as broad of an audience of general gamers at the same time makes their games as unfocused as possible. General Audiences don't like or care about Political Propaganda, and Minorities don't care about interacting with random toxic people on the internet via Multiplayer shooter. 😂
Allegedly Concord is being used as a tax write off given its investment and poor sales. Not sure how all that works, but I believe it considering how short-lived it was.
Basically, if they totally remove it as a product, and refund all sales. Aka, make it so that it doesn't exist and they haven't made any money from it. In which case, they can effectively write it off as a business expense. It's alot more complicated than that, and you'd need to do research into corporate tax law to work out why that is, but it's an increasingly common tactic. Especially in the film industry.
Damn. Everytime a game dies quickly I'm like "damn that happened so fast." But then something flops quicker and blows my mind. This is so sad to see. When will the fucking executives get fired instead of the rank and file??

But honestly I have had nothing but a good experience working with xbox and while its more difficult that switch it also has a lot more features than switch (trophies, cloud saves etc) that overall it was always my most positive platform to work with.
It makes you wonder how many players Concord actually had on Playstation. It's one thing to see it bomb on Steam, but there was always the chance the Playstation numbers were enough to keep the game afloat for a while. Sometimes you need to draw the public’s attention to a problem in order to get it fixed. This is a perfect example.
"BECAUSE WE ALL FUCKING TOLD YOU THIS WOULD HAPPEN!" Oh, the dopamine!
I saw a comment on a different concord video saying the active players is actually just the devs themselves leaving the game running at the office 💀 😂
_Ouch._
That would explain why its imposible to find games
Concord opened up a state of play 3 months ago. Sony really thought they had something here, that’s embarrassing
They opened with that while Astrobot had to wait close to the end of the show. (which by that point many people probably already clicked off)
Nah Concord's entire life cycle fit into This Week in Videogames 💀
So crazy, I met one of the Devs of parcel corps last year in a bar in Vietnam watching the Irish rugby final. Almost forgot about the game untill right now, stoked to check it out.
"My powers of prescience were painfully precise yet again!"
**feints in the glory of alliteration bliss**
If you told someone that there would be a live service game that flopped so hard that it wouldn't even be able to see its 2-week old bday. They would think you were being overly dramatic.
Not surprised. "The Culling 2 in 2018 and was removed from all stores one week after release due to almost completely negative reviews and no players. "
More surprised a AAA developer didn't blindly keep plugging away under the dellusion... but then again it took them 2 months to make the same realisation most gamers figured out instantly.
So you’re saying it wasn’t a Fortnite?
@@xIQ188x Fortnite was NOT the success it was today, it was a failed zombie survival game for years before its "spinoff" into a battle royale. Even they built the wrong game.
@@xIQ188x Not yet, ofc this is obviously a gambit to have Concord be seen as an underdog.
Soon they will announce a F2P reboot which will proceed to have a Concordillion downloads.
@@boxhead6177 so the joke is that the original commenter said it didn’t even make it two weeks, and a period of two weeks is called a fortnight.
I know the story of the video is Concord, but to me the “Microsoft can’t be bothered to answer developer emails” story is mind blowing.
I mean. The developer states that they're all bad at responding to those emails.
Seems pretty believable to me. Communicating with any big company is a blasted nightmare.

I’ve had milk last longer than Concord
Savage
I have underwear that has outlasted their entire dev cycle and launch.
*than
Then is for sequence; than is for comparison. ‘Concord lasted less than milk, then the executives got paid a lot.’ Make sure to pronounce them correctly to make writing them easier.
If that's the same Sad Alex that made the song "New Heartbreak" on Forza Horizon 5, then that's so awesome!!

Nah let's not slander Concorde. It was actually a really good plane with one of the best safety record for a plane in its era.
@@saga55797
But it was also an ill-considered leap towards a future lacking in evidence of existence that ultimately no one was interested in putting money into when it counted.
@@saga55797 The sad bit is that the Concorde planes got shuttered because it was expensive to maintain, not because it was entirely unsafe. Boeing's been getting away with a lot more than Concorde ever did.
Concord is just glaring proof that the powers that be, the corporate suits in charge of these companies who make the important decisions shaping the content available in our hobby couldn't possibly be more disconnected from the fans they are trying to pander to.
What
@@wyattmilliken3320 The people currently running the games industry arent gamers
Their Pandering to minorities and hopes to reach as broad of an audience of general gamers at the same time makes their games as unfocused as possible. General Audiences don't like or care about Political Propaganda, and Minorities don't care about interacting with random toxic people on the internet via Multiplayer shooter. 😂
Devs also pitch stupid stuff like this, probably the ugliest game ever, both are responsible.
@@alexlyster3459 Does that require it to release? Is that why they launched it? Could they write it off if it was cancelled and not released?
@@yahootube90 No. I know a software company that wrote off its losses for years without ever releasing anything during that time.

When he goes through all the games that failed recently you can see just how similar they all look
That’s half of the reason why Concord failed-it didn’t do anything three other shooters already did, and it didn’t do anything new to win over players from other proven titles.
Couldve told me it was the same game and id believe you.
It's almost as if nobody in charge asks the very VERY crucial and important question: "Who is this for?"

Im really surprised they didnt talk about Gearbox killing Risk of Rain 2 with the new DLC and code update.

When you have journalists praising Concord and dustborn that both failed while lambasting against wukong that's been selling gangbusters, it's pretty easy to see part of that disconnect.
Game developer who has worked with all console platforms, from my experience in terms of communication I've never had any issues, at most I've waited a week for responses from XBOX but on average it took a day, sometimes emails were responded to within an hour although this would obviously be depending on which department you are talking to and who your contact is.
But honestly I have had nothing but a good experience working with xbox and while its more difficult that switch it also has a lot more features than switch (trophies, cloud saves etc) that overall it was always my most positive platform to work with.
Only The Culling II had a shorter lifespan than Concord. And that game barely lasted 8 days.

It makes you wonder how many players Concord actually had on Playstation. It's one thing to see it bomb on Steam, but there was always the chance the Playstation numbers were enough to keep the game afloat for a while. For them to can the game shows even the PS audience was pretty abysmal.

Ouka and Visions of Mana is particularly sad, but it is how the games industry do. Now you can't even pretend to say buying games will support the devs if the devs are laid off the moment launch occurs.
