Update: I've purchased a 2015 KTM 200 and currently testing a 36mm Smart Carb loaned by a friend. While I'm still tuning, i have some initial impressions: - Very smooth , linear power. Bike seems more "chill" and happy. - Increased mid to top end. - Increased lugability: WOW! 200s are notorious for stalling at low revs, need a lot of clutch even in first gear. With the SC, the bike now CRAWLS in first grade without even needing the clutch! Amazing! - On the downside, I've lost the SNAP you get from the Keihin when you flick the throttle from idle, but like i said I'm still tuning and after the first ride the spark plug was wet, which tells me I'm way rich and could explain the diminished low end. Will do some more testing today, but i think i will love it once fully dialed in
I’d also love to hear how things turn out for you and whether you’re using the Smart Carb or SC2. I have this exact bike (make, model, and year) so I’d be very interested in how things go for you. 👍
Man my 200 has never had that stalling issue at low revvs… even with the Kehin it lugs like nobody’s business, it actually lugs far better than my 4 stroke yz400f
Really like your style of quick, concise info backed with excellent riding footage. I've got a 350 EXCF and none this pertains to me but enjoyed the video none the less. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for your review and comparison. Personally I think $700 is a steal to have all the benefits of fuel injection (smooth, power, starts easy every time) and none of the drawbacks (busted fuel pumps and oil injectors (neither of which are needed on a carbed bike), plus pesky electrical problems that render the bike unrideable). I'm waiting to get a KTM 2-stroke and I will NOT hesitate to buy a SMART CARB for it. It's a no-brainer to me.
Very nice of you to do a follow up from the problem they had with the bad O ring of whatever the problem was. Most move on and we never get answers. Enjoy that tpi!
Agree with your assessment. I am in Colorado now riding my 18 250xc with SC2. I have ridden Rampart Range, Sargents, and Hartman Rocks. Bike and carb performed well. Just had to adjust carb to leaner settings from Texas. Easy todo in a few seconds.
Most people buy smart carbs expecting to bolt it on and be perfect...not true of ANY carb you run...from the smart carb to lectron, you have to tune it for YOUR BIKES requirements...no two bikes are the same even if they left the factory the same day...all these carbs work great with competent owners knowing what and how to adjust 👍 great vid though boss
Any knowledge with running one on an older classic bike? I have a 77 maico AW250. No reeds. Wondering if this would improve things with its overall performance?
Awesome review. My experience with the SC2 on my 2019 300 xc is just like yours. I've tried the Smart Carb, Keihen, Mikuni, and Lectron and this is by far the best performer. Quick question, how does the bottom end on your TPI compare to the SC2?
Great review, I'm just about to pull the trigger on one for a 2020 sherco 300👍 I am however curious to know what the "repair" was that required it to be sent back to technology elevated?? This could be an issue as I'm in the UK. Thanks
The float needle seat o-ring was torn. This caused the carb to be flooding. It was a production flaw in the very first SC2 models. TE fixed the flaw on the next run of carbs and were manually fixing the early models. Unfortunately mine somehow was missed. Once TE got it back they saw the issue right away. This would not be a concern on any new carbs they are selling. Hope this helps you.
Does the Smartcarb SC2 require a different throttle cable for an 18 GasGas EC300? And is there a lighter spring for cable to reduce arm pump similar to that needed for Lectron?
No, the SC2 accepts your bike's stock throttle cable and they come standard with a lighter pull spring, though heavier pull springs are available upon request. We recommend the 38mm size SC2 and will calibrate it specifically for your setup, we just need to know about any engine/exhaust modifications, riding style, and fuel type/oil ratio mixed. That information is collected for every order online, over the phone, or via email. Hit us up with any further questions you may have.
Does anyone use these on older bikes? All I see is videos discussing 2017 and newer bikes. I might be interested in running one on my 1971 Bultaco Pursang 350. Serious question.
Hey what’s up, love the videos and all, you should make a video on all your bike mods I’ll be really interested to see. If you already have a vid my mistake ✌️
@@snowrider4495 that's true! The SmartCarb is a sealed system. No external dangly hoses, no leaks. Also yes they were originally developed by the same inventor. He sold Lectron to GM in the 70s and went on to develop other carbs like the Ei Blue Magnum, Qwiksilvers, and ultimately the SmartCarb before he passed. We've continued its development since!
@@snowrider4495 the 250 2T can go with either our 36mm or our 38mm size SmartCarb depending on how you ride the bike and what you are looking to gain the most. The smaller 36mm prioritizes bottom end tractability and grunt as well as the best fuel economy gains and is recommended in most cases for trail, woods, enduro, single track type riding. The larger 38mm gives more gains on top, extending the power band out substantially and is recommended for snowbikes, desert racing, pure MX, supermoto, etc where top end power is more desirable. Either size will outperform a conventional carb bottom to top but they prioritize those increases a little differently. The 36mm is by far the most popular choice. We are still developing a side-pull throttling mechanism for the 4T bikes to replace the Keihin FCR. That said our top-pull current models work very well but only if they fit and the cable can be routed properly underneath the tank/frame. Currently it requires a bit of homework on the customer's end.
@@SmartCarbFuelSystems how do you think the smart carb compares to the lectron! I have a 2019 yz250x with 38mm lectron and love it except the cold starts but I ignore that part due to the performance and not having to jet it from colorado to texas riding!

Yep, the external adjustment sure beats pulling the slide out to make changes.

So, for enduro SmartCarb 2 + FMF Gnarly (+ Powercore 2) is the killer? Got it...
850.00 now thanks to Biden!! I just ordered my smart carb to put on my 22 yz125x!!
I have the same bike, I was thinking about getting a smart carb for it. How do you find the performance now?
Maybe you already tested the Kehein air Stryker but I replaced my mikuni on my 17 te250 and haven’t looked back. Great review, thanks
Any knowledge with running one on an older classic bike? I have a 77 maico AW250. No reeds. Wondering if this would improve things with its overall performance?
What do you actually notice regarding fuel injection advantages over smartcarb?
Instant power throughout the rpm's, ever better fuel economy and no smoke.
Any chance you can post a link where you got yours? I can't find anywhere online where to buy.
Technology Elevated sells them direct: technologyelevated.com/
Did you ever try the 38mm smart carb ?
Planning on putting a smart carb2 on my 18’ KTM 300XC. You using a stock head? What pre mix ratio? Questions they’ll ask me as I order mine.
How much kilometeres did you on a full tank with the stock carb and how much with the Smartcarb?
Stock 70-80 Smartcarb 120+
I just want to ride those woods. That’s heaven on a dirt bike.
Great review!
Are you comparing to the latest Lectron hv series?

Cody Joseph good question. I think it's pretty similar on the bottom end actually, they both have that instant grunt that the Lectron lacked.
How much kilometers/miles did you do on a full tank with the stock carburator and how much with Smartcarb?
Nice!
Do you mount under the visor or on the chin for your GoPro?
Proshot chin mount.
which is better,.. fi or smartcarb??

Is the price difference justified in the performance difference between the Lectron?
Matter of opinion but I think so.
Can i use smart carb on 125cc 4 stroke?
Reach out to the guys at smartcarb, they will let you know which one will work with your bike.
