Sinn U50 S BS - Small repair to the clasp, Comparison between original and replacement OEM clasps

  • I only noticed a small QC issue with my Sinn U50 S BS after about 2 months of ownership. Basically, I noticed the small pin in the joint of the diver extension section in the clasp was loose and missing an "end cap" (for lack of a better term) on the opposite side. Compared it to the clasp of another H-link Sinn bracelet I own and can confirm there was a small piece missing. The problem is that pin could potentially fall out at any moment when the extension is used and thus causing the bracelet to separate and watch to fall off the wrist... not to mention if that pin drops out and gets lost, then the bracelet could all be useless.
I contracted WatchBuys as soon as I discovered this, explained and sent pics of the issue. They were quick to respond and say they'd order a replacement clasp from Sinn. I think it would take up to 40 working days to get.
The part finally arrived. I compare it side by side to the original one that came with the watch to be sure it was the correct part and spot any differences. To my surprise, there actually were a fair number of design differences between the original clasp and the replacement. I show them in this video.. too many details to explain in writing here. I wasn't sure if the replacement was worth doing? But, in the end I decided to use it and I think it's actually a little better than the original. Has a subtle shape difference.. a bit more straighter edges and flat surface. the folding lock seems actually more secure than the original, too.
I really love this watch and glad the clasp is replaced with a more secure and complete one to continue to enjoy for a very long time.

Dont forget the "Loctite" for the Screws, so they can't loose over time by their self. There should he a Bottle in your original Watchbox from Sinn.

Loctite? I've owned many Sinks and never have they come with any Loctite

@@khronokraze In Germany every Watch-Box from Sinn contains a bottle "Schraubensicherung" (don't know how it's overseas). It's basesicly the same as "Loctite 243" to make sure the screws from the Bracelet can't get loose over time and fell off the wrist. You should find a picture of it via Google Image Search looking for "Sinn Schraubensicherung".

Correct. But OP is correct too in that Sinn pieces sold in the NA market do not include Loctite.
I have had a similar issue with a bracelet screw falling out of my U50-T. Thankfully enough, I have smaller wrists and so I had quite a few extra screw sets. Regardless, have never used Loctite but have never had any other issues since that one....and hopefully I didn't just jinx myself, haha.
