Awesome review on making the feather sticks. You have a fine intellectual manner in demonstrating the proper technique in making the feather sticks. Take care and be safe. 🤗
Not sure if you guys gives a damn but if you are bored like me atm then you can stream all the latest movies on Instaflixxer. Have been binge watching with my brother during the lockdown =)
First video of yours that I've seen. I want to complement you on your attention to detail, your ability to extract and explain the most important points, and your clear use of words when describing. Rare package of demonstration skills. Thanks for the good information and demonstration.
Thanks for sharing your expertise. This is the only video one needs to view to get a clear understanding of the process. I appreciate you attention to detail. Hope you win on Alone. i am pulling for you.
i have watch this video multiple times and still enjoy it as if it was the first. great great video, and you are an artist in making feather sticks. looking forward to doing this when this tweny inches of snow melts away. thx
wonderful, thanks for mentioning that you are slicing down on the ridges that are created between the flat spots to make your curls, never heard that before and makes so much sense.
Thanks for the lessons on feather sticks my dad just bought me my first bushcraft knife and now I am going to use it first to make feather sticks with your video. I will not be able to do as perfect as your but you give me good teqnike. Pretty nice knife and don't loose your keys.
bro loved the tips ...wanted to tell ya i got my first mora on your recommend back in early part of the year carried and used it all summer until now. It is a companion and its awesome. Liked it so much i ordered a robust higq and just got it and am stoked. Its beefy and fits my big hands well and its like a razor from the package just wanted to say thanks i dont know how i missed them all these years.
Very wholesome indeed, brother! I'm on a computer for a bit. Got two of your vids in. Saving that overnight series for when I can really relax and enjoy! Hope you are well, my good friend. Dave
Thank you I really enjoyed this. Just a comment (since you asked). If building a fire I would always also get some fuel in under the feather sticks. Flames rise but heat also radiates downwards. If you put a bed of twigs, on sticks, on bigger sticks, they will soon catch and do your work for you. You will get a great bed of coals a lot quicker if you have some big chunky sticks or even logs right at the bottom. No point having a load of heat radiate into the cold ground when you’re trying to get the fire going. Thanks again!
I do believe, I have found the Michelangelo of feather sticks. I have seen many beautiful ones that I would put on a wall instead of burn, but yours I would feel shamed to burn. It is very beautiful and by far the best I seen. Mine are not sloppy but surly not that beautiful. Great job and nicely done giving directions.
Such a beautiful job. Those curls are mouth-watering. Hadn't heard about using dead pine under branches. Whenever I have tried to make feather sticks before I had a hard time getting a lot of good curls and kept running into knots. Best video I have seen on feathersticks--you filled in a lot of the blanks I was missing in technique and questions I had. Thanks! Carving the bow side down really will help along with a sharp knife (just ordered a Mora Companion Heavy Duty) and will try it with another recently sharpened knife in my collection.
Enjoyed your well done demonstration as was not conversant with feathersticks (until now), let alone the benefits of using pine and have just ordered a Mora Bushcraft black and will give it a go. Thankyou.
Thanks Elmer, ya in my experience scandi has outperformed convex in feathering, the curve of the vex grind immediately before the edge gets in the way.
I just finished the first season of Alone. (I know I'm late) I was surprised nobody got fire started the first day. I knew you would go far since you were the first to get a fire started. Great job! I was sorry to hear about your mother. Thanks for the awesome video.
ya we got snow off and on since that point, theres 1 more step after painting and thats sealing, then its set! id like to get it done before the snow really hits, not sure if i will be able to
Ok this makes a lot of sense to me. I can make a decent featherstick but watching this made me realize that when I make them I just keep carving deeper and deeper into the wood instead of moving up the wood in order to get more feathers. Very helpful.
Can't wait for the weekend to try out what I just learned from you! It's interesting how you didn't protect the wood from the rain. I won't be so protective from now on. Great video! Thanks for posting.
Yes, i just practiced feather sticks until i was happy with the result and made note of varying factors that increased their quality. What made you ask?
Great lookin' feather sticks, Mitch! Thanks for the video it was full of really good tips and helpful demonstration. I love the idea of using pine for the feather sticks...it's like ...of course, why didn't I put that together before! great video.

This is far better than the ones I was taught to make in scouts.
Just what I was thinking! Great job Mitch.
