Mr Steele, you have no idea how much I’m looking forward to hearing this new stuff live seeing your zombification in the flesh again this summer. You’re an absolute hero of mine.
I saw AOF a few weeks ago, and there was one moment where Steele and I made direct eye contact. It might sound crazy to say this, but he was not the same person that's talking in this video. Steele live is super intense. It's like a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde situation when he gets on stage lol. I had seen videos of them live before, but that was my first time seeing them in person. Such a fun experience!
Met Steele in a coffee shop in Seattle before their show right before the pandemic. Had been a life long dream to see them live. Saw him by himself from outside the window and just couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t stop and shake his hand. Very nice guy and was totally willing to chat with a random guy like me. I remember I had my camera with me and I asked if I could get a picture and he assumed I wanted a selfie with him. But I took his portrait instead. Still one of my favorite pictures. My wife thought I was insane for not taking a picture with him but I will remember that forever. Really truly love this band and what they have done in my life.
He is an incredible guy. A month ago he came to Argentina, and when the show finished, Chris went out to the street to chat with, I don't know, 20 people, who were outside waiting. He was very cooperative, dedicating time to each one of us, with photos and record signings in between. A total genius with a lot of humility. In short, an excellent guy.
This comment reminded me of the time that I met Wade at a Smashing Pumpkins show in 2019. AOF had just played in LA two months before, and they're a bucket list band for me. Really down to earth guy, chatted with me for about 5 minutes. I didn't get a picture with him because I didn't wanna be that guy, but I definitely needed to shake his hand. Can't wait to see them again this year.
Also met Steele in a coffee shop in hometown st Catharine’s. Was one of the kindest “quietest” people I’ve ever met. I thought I had courage to approach him but he started asking me about where I’m from and who I am. Very kind gentleman!
My personal Favorite song on this album. This album is all in all spectacular. It's a great departure. It's grown up and mature both lyrically and musicianship wise. Honestly it's quickly becoming on the level of watch out/crisis for me. However, I don't compare them that way because this album is just different, in a good way. The hardcore scene was that era, now we're in a different era. Things just change, its a fact of life. Thank you guys for this album, I'll keep listening to it and all the old stuff too forever!
We're fortunate to have people like Chris who can write about things that are so personal and yet universal. I think anyone who's dealt with addiction gets it. Y'all kicked ass in Dallas last year, can't wait to see y'all again.
We are our own worst enemies… Steele highlights how humans cannot be isolated. Despite how strong you think you may be, you need to connect, you need to love, that’s what the human experience is about. Such a golden song. I haven’t listened through the album yet - but this is my favorite off the singles for sure.
This is amazing. As a fan, to hear Steele share his thoughts and his process. Then, to have George bring it all together, support and share his part. The sound continues to evolve and light that spark inside. Can't wait to see it live. Vancouver Island show?
don't you ever feel embarrassed about sounding too much like kyuss. one of my all time fav bands besides AOF love knowing you guys like QOTSA and kyuss . once again validate my passion for you guys!!!!
OMG I always thought the band was Alex Is On Fire. My mind was blown when he said Alexis On Fire 🤯🤯🤯 I’ve been listening to the band for about 15 years too 🤣😁🙃
This is my favorite new track so far! It definitely has the old Alexisonfire feel to it, and now that you guys explained that its the OG Young Cardinals I can't unhear it lol
This is a fantastic song! The band is evolving but as long as you keep holding true to your foundation like you did here then you will for sure have atleast one fan for life!
Once in a blue moon, I'll hear a song and it instantly grabs me. Most of the other times, it will take a few listens before a song really grows on me. But not this one. I think its my new favourite.
Honestly one of the best songs on the album. I had this on repeat all day for closing day at Sunshine Village this year. The perfect send-off to an amazing season was this track banging all day in my ear.
Very pumped for this record. Was fortunate to have them as the last show I saw before all the covid nonsense and it was amazing. Can’t wait for you guys to tour this new record 🤘🏼
This whole album is by far the bands best work. Such a departure yet still AOF. Sans Soleil and Conditional Love along with Reverse The Curse are my top 3 off the album.
holy shit that entire segment about the lyrics was profound. Been a fan for over a decade, seen them twice, but never once heard Steele talk, I don't think. Didn't even know he wrote lyrics. Does he wrote a lot of AOF lyrics? What are other good examples?
It's hard to explain as a non-audio person, but it sounds like Dallas and Wade recorded the lead and harmonies and then made them the same volume rather than having the lead stand out, and then lowered all of their vocals altogether. Not sure why they made that choice, because Reverse the Curse sounds incredible live. - ruclips.net/video/dJuPvdvk2iE/видео.html If the chorus was mixed this way on the album it would improve it a lot, I think.
Chris is a really cool dude. I tried to Get a hair cut a few times at the crows nest from him lol, that place was always so bust tho. Cool dude. Cool dudes. fuck yeah
The energy and feel of this song are incredible, but I can't help but feel like the mixing on it is absolutely killing the chorus. Can barely hear the vocals over the guitar, despite having the absolute perfect essence of what everyone fell in love with about this band. Hoping it is adjusted a bit for the actual release of the record, the guitar tone sounds awesome it's just too loud compared to the equally awesome vocals. Of course, just one dude's opinion on one pair of headphones, but this compared to This Could Be Anywhere In the World, or Young Cardinals, seems like something went wrong in the mixing process.
@@mmmmhamburg my brand new alpine system in my Jeep would say otherwise to me. Even though it sounds better, it still is off a tad, Dallas is too far "behind" the music.
Thank you. I've found this with the few tracks they've released over the past couple of years. They sound really bad to my ears, which is unfortunate, because this track especially is exceptional.
I agree - the overly compressed and loud mixes are what are preventing me from enjoying the record as I should. The songs are extremely well crafted and arranged - just the mixes that are not doing them justice I feel.
@@vkolpdj I have the record. Was sent it from their PR for the record. Got this counterparts stick to your guns dance Gavin dance, upon a burning body, Darko US, and veil of Maya
I can hear how great the song is, & I really want to love it, but the production on the song does it no favours. I get the change of direction & Im psyched for it, Otherness is a banger, but the vocals are too hidden in the mix on this track, & the lo-fi production kind of blends all of the instruments in to one so nothing truly stands out. I hope the other songs are mixed differently.
The mix has been a huge distraction for me. Too bad because this track is really great. I don't think it's just that the vocals are low in the mix either. I'm convinced that it's mixed too loud that it clips (see loudness war). It's very distorted, and not in a good way.
George looks like he's about to walk onto a roof and say 'OH HI MARK'

Would be cool for them to play Young Cardinals live and then change the riff towards the end and then go into Reverse the Curse.
I listened to this track for the first time today, and it's funny because after hearing it I was like "this is very OC/YC era". And welp...it was 🤣🤣

Super cool. This band IS authentic modern rock & roll - but drug through punk, 00s hooky screamo / post hardcore, with a tinge of sludge.
