How preserve them after applying on canvas eithere its gold or silver leaf , so iy couldnt chnges the. colour , example I applied on canvas silver leaf but aftrr month it changes into dark yelloish niw its changing into black so please tell me what should I do??
Use a clear coat sealant. There are tons on amazon (speedball, aleene’s) I use aleenes spray gloss finish. It’s normally used for acrylic painting sealer but works just as good with the imitation gold/copper/silver leaf. There’s no shame in using imitation as most artist due especially when applying to large areas. The discoloration is the metal leaf oxidizing because of oxygen. It’s also best to keep the gold leaf out of direct sunlight as is with most paints.
I applied gold leaf over acrylic pour ( made of acrylic paint water and white glue) after completely drying them using deli white glue. Varnished them too. But after few days gold leaf started to fade away and left a green color where i applied gold leaf. Why is it happening and what could be done. Please help
Gold leaf is very sensitive to light and can often turn green if in direct sunlight. Same with silver leaf. Best to frame and put work behind UV Art Glass
Not a good job! The pattern of the canvass is showing through the gold leaf. Need to put gesso or something on the canvass first to smooth out the area to be gilded .
