Long Range America Fuel Tank Install - JKU Wrangler

- We installed a 15.8 gallon Long Range America fuel tank on Clifford, our Jeep Wrangler JKU! Here is some behind the scenes of the install.
We are really enjoying the new range this tank offers for our adventures. We fill up like normal at the gas station. Both the auxiliary tank and our stock fuel tank fill up automatically at the pump. When the stock fuel tank gets low, we just press the button (while driving or parked!) and the auxiliary tank refuels the main tank so we can keep driving! No gas cans to mess with, no heavy fuel cans hanging off the back bumper. All the weight is down low and and our fuel is secure.
Our opinions and reviews are unbiased and our own - if you've followed Overland AZ for any amount of time you know we do not review a product until we have thoroughly put it to the test. We've had the tank now since September and will be publishing a full review in the near future.

Jeep owners get to have all the fun! We overland in a full size Silverado for now. 🤙-Josh
Looking forward to my tank install on my FJ Cruiser by Brian
I just ordered mine today. I am going from AZ to Alaska :)
Oh you’re going to love having the tank for that trip! We’re aiming for Alaska for 2025. Would love to hear how it goes for you and any advice!
Really well done overview. It must be nice to know you’ve got that extra range!
Thank you! Yes, no more “fuel anxiety” 😁
I was just looking at these tanks. Right now they are running $100 off deal. Going to have to hit Brien up on this when I get one!
Good deal! Brien knows his stuff!
@@OverlandAZ Have you come across any skid plate solutions for protecting it better? I don't plan on smashing my rig against rocks all the time, but that occasional drop onto a boulder might be concerning.
@@erikdrown3108 I haven’t found any off the shelf skids for it, I’m sure one could be made. We are on 3” lift and 35” tires and I’ve not had an issue yet through a couple rock gardens and even on trails in Moab.
Think I can run skid plates inter the entirety of the Jeep with this? Good video man!
Great install, just curious what is the install cost.
Waiting for the next video.
Is. Everybody ok??
Yes all good! We had a very busy holiday season and have some big news coming up soon!
Sweet set up. What is the reason you linked the fuel controller to the SPod?
We just tapped into the power that runs from the battery to the spod, it was easier than running another line across the engine bay. I wanted to have the switch on constant power so that I could have it transfer fuel even with the Jeep off, like if we stop for lunch or a hike, and come back to a full tank.
@@OverlandAZ I see. Cool. How long does the fuel take to transfer from one tank to the other? Is it loud while driving or have the jeep turned off? I'm looking into Long Ranger, Brown Davis and Genright solutions so your video is super helpful.
@@williamlee7782 Mine takes about 20 minutes or so. You can’t hear it while driving. When stopped you can hear the distinct clicking of a small pump. It’s not too loud and I’ll leave ours going in parking lots all the time. It does get a little louder once the tank is empty but it automatically shuts off after about a minute. They also just upgraded to a different pump that is supposed to be faster. I’m not sure about the sound, but they may be able to give you more details.
@@OverlandAZ awesome. Thank you. 🙏
@@williamlee7782 you’re welcome!
How many gallons was the tank, how much, install costs?? Thanks!!
For the 4 door wrangler it’s a 15.8 gallon tank. Install prices I was quoted quite a range. I opted to work with my friend Brien at his shop because we were able to work out a deal and allowed me to film and take our time as well. I would definitely recommend getting a few quotes in your area, though if you are mechanically inclined it can be done as a diy install. longrangeamerica.com has their application list and pricing for each vehicle 👍
So..does the long range tank pump fuel into the main tank when you push the button? Or does switch from main to secondary tank like with older vehicles that had 2 tanks?
It pumps it from the auxiliary tank to the main tank. The biggest benefit of this is then retaining the factory fuel mileage calculations once the fuel is transferred. The computer will still calculate fuel mileage and estimate the remaining mileage.
👍
Awesome job! Do you feel the extra weight when both tanks are filled ?
Thanks! Weight was actually one of my concerns. I did a lot of work to lighten the load of the Jeep in anticipation of adding weight elsewhere (larger tent, drawers, fuel). The new tank plus fuel is less than 150lbs (tank weighs 50lbs + roughly 95lbs for 15.8 gallons of fuel). All in all it’s like adding a small passenger to your Jeep, I really can’t tell a difference and I think the fact that the weight is at/below the center of gravity also helps (which also gives me a bit more confidence in off camber situations!)
Will this work on the 4xe Wrangler ?
Sorry I missed this. It looks like they have them available for the 3.6l and 2.0l, I have a feeling the batteries may cause fitment constraints. But, it would be worth placing a call to them to confirm, they may have something in the works that I’m not aware of
@@OverlandAZ thanks !
You’re welcome! I should see them at Expo West this weekend I’ll try to see what they are working on
Is the aux tank fuel pump an external or internal fuel pump?
It’s external, easy to replace if ever needed though I am still on the original pump
Which one fills first and what happens when one is full does it automatically fill the other
They both fill up together, the new filler neck splits two ways, one going to the auxiliary tank and the other going to the main tank. Once both tanks fill the gas pump will shut off automatically when filling up just like it does with a single tank. Works great!
