I love how you keep adding new things to the jeep, but it's a credit to you that you got as far as you did without all the upgrades. I think it shows that determination/desire and skill/experience can take you really far.
Just randomly came across your videos for first time on Sunday, watched you exploring in my stomping grounds in Maine. Awesome. Next day i was on route 100 in Bally getting an ice cream and saw you stopped at intersection. Said to myself, where do I known that orange Jeep with red kayak from... Small world!
Chris that’s the cleanest I’ve seen your Jeep in months. It’ll drive better without the excess mud, etc... The new modifications should really help, and increase your confidence... Drive safely
Man, I know that cornfield and shop entrance all too well. OK4WD. Such a great gem in the NW rural heart of Warren County NJ. Those guys can literally make ANYTHING happen and they do it all, top notch!
OK4WD mechanics ...kudos to those guys! I think another commentor mentioned "range anxiety" and I experienced the same on several of your adventures. My dad was notorious for letting the fuel level run down to the very edge of the E on the gauge. He actually did on a trip to Philly, running out of gas on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. He had to walk five miles to a gas station and he lucked out that a PA trooper gave him a ride back to the car. Now I won't be concerned for you. New auxiliary tank, new rubber and some new parts should keep you on the trails and us entertained.
Great episode fella. LRA tanks are a brilliant bit of kit, we have three big campanies here in Aus and I think the LRA product is made the best quality and value for money. Thank you for sharing your travels.
Hi mate been following you awhile now and thought I'll drop you a comment in regards to your extra fuel tank I have a 2013 jk and have the same long ranger fuel tank, and down here in Australia you certainly have to have them, I've had mine for about 5 years and really happy with mine I'm sure you will have great results with it a great product. Enjoying your vidios I do a lot of overlanding down here in Australia regards Dan
Chris I hope you never need to regret the spare tank ,but I would be paranoid about it hanging down there un-protected below the frame rails. Maybe you should consider a skid plate for it.
Nice opportunity to catch up with Cole and celebrate your mom's birthday. My mom turned 80 on Tuesday, so we're heading to Shady Maple for Seafood night. Safety Travels and God Bless!
OK4WD is simply on another level with customer service from my experience compared to the competition. I will happily wait for a package to be sent over to me on the West Coast from the East Coast. I have never physically met any of the guys but feel like I have known them for years.
COOL! GLAD EVERYTHING WENT AS PLANNED! GOD BE WITH YOU ON YOUR JOURNEY AS ALWAYS ! BE SAFE! HAVE FUN! ENJOYED AS ALWAYS ! YOUR MOM MUST OF BEEN SUPRISED , PLUS WAS ABLE TO BE WITH YOUR SON TOO !
Chris I really love your Jeep. I'd love to have a set up just like that. Maybe one day I can make that happen. Thanks as always for sharing. Oh, and HBD to your Mom. :)
That is a nice looking aux gas tank. If only they had fabricated it to sit above the lower portion of the frame. But it should be okay with overlanding type trails. The new tank and plumbing might have stirred up some crap in the old tank, causing that stalling you mentioned. Anyway, you may want to think about changing the fuel filter if it keeps stalling as that is one symptom of a clogged fuel filter. It's part of the fuel pump assy in the factory tank, so it may be a pain to drop the factory tank to change out the fuel filter. Hopefully it will clear up on its own. Good luck!
Awesome Video Chris, One of my favorites. The tank is going to serve you well, speaking from experience. 17 Gallons, A much better solution to Rotopax for a larger quantity needed, Less of a theft issue also.
Good decision to install a auxiliary tank. For an overladen this is mandatory - my opinion. In Europe lots of overlanders drive because of this situation the Toyota HZJ78, which carries 180 l fuel (nearly 50 gal.) in both tanks, which allows to drive up to 1800km (1200 miles) without a tank stop.
Some people think that isn't a lot of miles on those but considering how much you're on forest roads and gravel, I think that's a decent amount of mileage out of them. If you did more pavement, I think you could easily get about 50k. Great video once again! Keep up the great work!
A tip for the recovery tracks. Connect them to one another with thin steel cables (I like stainless) and small shackles or carabiners for easy clipping on and off, then connect the rear ones to some place in the car, also with thin wire cables and small carabiners. This way, if you are in a nasty, gnarly muddy terrain, you simply drag them along to a more civilised road area where they can be easily recovered, instead of having to hike back, and dig them up from deep in the mud.
I loved my aux tank in the Northeast Canadian areas. I’m not gonna say it’s necessary, but for sure less stressful. Especially if you plan to cross into Labrador on the ferry from Newfoundland.
I could'a been first, but I didn't have anything to say at the moment...lol Great video, new things is one of the best reasons to have a vehicle. The new tank idea is great, but now it's sputtering. A lot of vehicles these days with Emissions systems, the fuel cell has to be pressurized. By adding the second tank, the system may lose pressure if it can backflow into the second tank. To correct that, a manual brass fuel line shutoff valve will need to be installed between the two tanks.
It would be nice to do an episode on the back story of what started all this for you. Your first videos don’t really have a “beginning” of what prompted you to just all the sudden start exploring and living out of your jeep
Very cool and smart upgrade for your kind of travel. Knowing that this tank will, in fact, allow you to get further and further from civilization I would highly suggest adding a few spares to your redundancy kit. First and foremost would be to order a backup electric transfer pump. That new tank will be rendered useless if/when the electric pump takes a dive on you in the middle of nowhere. Second would be some hoses of various diameters for punctures or leaks. Slip each hose into each other and then just zip tie the whole lot somewhere out of the way until needed. Finally, a handful of hose clamps varying in sizes/diameters.
@@jeep6242 Not sure I would want to drain gasoline from a drain plug without some way to control it. But, you are right , in an absolute emergency that could be an option.
HBD to your Mom! Congrats Chris! All the right parts in all the right places. Excellent product explanations but did you ever get out of the pancake 🥞 batter!?!? 😂
BFG All Terrains ...uhg! BFG's aren't know for great wear , 35K isn't very good. The other reason I don't care for them is my son had a set on a F150 ,every time he took it on a logging road here In Washington he would put a rock through the face of one . After the shop re placed the third one (under warranty for free) at about 25K he had them pro rate him a set of Toyos, end of problem. I've had a lot better luck with Goodyear for mileage, although i am currently trying a set of Dick Cepek's on my Wrangler. That extra fuel tank looks trick, I'll have to check them out and see if they have anything for a Jeep YJ. Good adventures and ale care.
Golden, maybe I’ll cross paths when you’re near home someday… my only gripe is tire brand choice. But that’s a big debate topic I’m sure you’ve heard it all before 1000x haha
Scott T maybe stock fuel pump on stock tank together with fuel pressure regulator. Having that trouble myself on my tj. Dodge has really gotten cheap on their manufactured parts
I just had the same problem, it would stall and then cut off the engine... turns out it was the ignition coil on the 5 th cylinder and the crank shaft sensor.
Oh sweet. That's my shop where I had most of my work done to my JKUR. Good guys. How long did the Long Ranger tank take to install in billable hours? I'm debating between this and the GenRight. Thank you for sharing.
I'm not sure if the new system has an overflow protection device to keep the main tank from getting overfilled from the secondary tank. Getting the fuel level all the way to the top will push too much fuel into the Evap system. This can cause performance issues, charcoal tank saturation and Evap system failure.
your electronic sway bar device in the front. I don't see you seal it. Boaters use some sort of silicone goop to seal their seacocks etc from leaking. I think that is your issue. That goop would keep the water from getting in to foul that spring. Just a thought
So the transfer pump will not auto shut off correct? Also is there only one filler neck? how do you fill one tank or both. I kinda missed that in the video.
Well, it definitely depends on driving style. I do remember I once made it from Stewartsville, NJ to Bangor, ME in one go... 525 -ish miles. I was running on fumes at the end there, though :)
My husband and I love watching your videos, thank you for sharing. A while back in one of your videos you said you had “Internety things to do” we thought it was so funny! We quote it often: “ I have Internety things to do” you should make it into a T-shirt! Also, we kind of noticed that you like CheezeIts, you have to try the Italian Four Cheeze-It’s, they are SO good! a kick in the mouth,,, but in the best way! Lol
Auxiliary fuel tanks are subject to California's anti-tampering laws. Installation of auxiliary fuel tanks on emission controlled vehicles is prohibited unless the auxiliary fuel tanks have been evaluated and certified by the Air Resources Board. Think I’ll stick with the two 3 gallon Rotopax I mounted on my Smittybilt tire carrier I installed myself with slightly modified installation. Smittybilt says limit to 2 gallon Rotopax but I am not carrying the oversize tire and mounted the Rotopax with minimal eccentricity.
Brandon Paul I don’t think they would “look” for it visually. Don’t know if they can detect something fishy with the sensors in the test. I would call a testing station in a major CA city.
I wouldn't sweat the loss of ground clearance. I perched my Land Cruiser on a rock, resting on the LRA tank, and it barely left a scratch. They are extremely strong. How much range does your JK now have?
My first F 250 diesel came with BFG all terrain and I got 33K miles out of them only replacing them when a nail went through one of the sidewalls. Great tires.
Check to see if you have one of those crappy little inline fuel screens in your fuel line. If so it could very well be your intermittent stalling problem.
I love how you keep adding new things to the jeep, but it's a credit to you that you got as far as you did without all the upgrades. I think it shows that determination/desire and skill/experience can take you really far.

Extra fuel, new recovery goodies, fresh rubber....can't wait to see the rest of your North Bound Adventure! Cheers
Good luck with the new tank. You should have had them seal that sway bar disconnect so you don't get anymore water in it. Great series.

This is a great mod. Thanks for the website I knew there were some guys importing these tanks to U.S. I'm planning to do this on my 2 door.

They sell one that is reinforce with a thicker wall. It is made to order.
From what I've seen in your videos when you were "extreme" 4x4ing you have plenty of room between the ground and your new tank....keep on truckin.

Brand new KO2s. I know that’s a great feeling! And 17 extra gallons of gas. That’s a good day!

Well now that is pretty cool. I never even knew an auxiliary fuel tank existed for JK's. They even have them for 2dr JKs as well. Neat.
Everything on Jeeps is so nice and tiny. It's adorable :P
Best mod ever. I’ve been ogling these tanks for years!

Did you have them check your sway bar disconnect? Wonder if there is a seal gasket that is missing that is allowing water into the mechanism?
Awesome add one. New tires are the best.
Very nice addition!!! 😁👍
It's likely too late to help, but there is a ferry from Bar Harbor to Nova Scotia that would save a lot of driving.
One from Portland, too...
What’s your range with both tanks full?
500 + i'm guessing
I'm thinking close to 425 miles ?
@@Goodsxp 22+17=39 x 13=507 ish

Be mindful that each of the two tanks likely has “some” unusable/unavailable fuel....
Finally, he bought some MAXTRAX!

I want a dual fuel tank on my JKU. Been thinking about it.
you really need a diesel.!.
They should have made that tank a little smaller and give it some armor. 16 gal and a skid plate.
I had an aux tank on my 76 Bronco. Factory installed, manual valve just next to the side of the drivers seat. Could go all weekend off road.
HBD to your Mom! Congrats Chris! All the right parts in all the right places.
Excellent product explanations but did you ever get out of the pancake 🥞 batter!?!? 😂
Let us know if the Jeep is riding low in the back because of the hundred and seven pounds of extra fuel plus the weight of the new tank.
Cool stuff !!
Those new gas bills are gonna be sticker shock for a bit. Curious if there is any loss of MPG with the extra weight.
I"ve got the same tank in my JK. Love it!
