When I was a child this song scared the bejeezus out of me, but it was like a scary fantasy. Now it does the same again because there are so many touches on reality.
I was 13 years old when this was a hit and it has stuck with me in the intervening 53 years. Today it is still in my top five favourite songs. Looking back it is frightening how prophetically true the lyrics are.
Me too! I was 8 yrs old and whenever it played on the radio, I asked if we could turn the channel. It's sad, scary and even a bit evil and as a little kid, I picked up right on it.
It didn't scare me back then but over the decades it seems to eerily come true one line after another. Not ten thousand years but in my lifetime. That's scary.
Great song when I was growing up. So different than most songs at the time. (I just figured out what you were watching. The video you watched was from the 1927 German silent movie called Metropolis. It was set 100 years in the future (2026). It was about the rich living in utopia while the poor were doing all the hard work to keep everything functioning. It is an interesting view of the future in Germany (and the world I guess) that was made between WWl and WWll.)
When I was a child this song was a catchy tune. Now with a lot of these lyrics coming true. The only people with computers were large corporations. They had to store them in sterile rooms and they were so large that they took up a 6x6 floor.
The film in the video was taken from Metropolis, a silent movie made, I think, in the early 1930s. Incidentally the film was remastered years later with a Queen music score. Worth a watch.
The song itself is wonderful! But you should try to hear (and watch) it accompanied by the footage pieced together from the Metropolis video! I can't thank that creator enough.
This IS a freaky song. I enjoyed hearing your comments on the topic. You are right - the world is moving soooo friggin' fast - rather scary as you feel no one is saying "Wait a minute, just wait.." You guys are younger and to hear you reflect on the changes in just the last decade (for you) truly sends this message home. Thanks so much for this thought provoking reaction🦋P.S. If you travel back to the 70's you may not want to come back!🌈
Hi Jules, how are you doing? Sorry I haven't written for a while, lots of things happening! I had a lovely visit on Friday from one of my nephews and his family, hadn't seen them for ages, they live not far from Manchester. We had a super day, went out for lunch, lots of great chat and fun! They then headed off to Edinburgh where they were staying for a couple of days, on Saturday a visit to Edinburgh Castle and on Sunday they went to the zoo, one of the main attractions being the Giant Pandas. See on Jacob's Ridge that the goat has been named Nigel, which is fun and I'm hoping we might get a donkey chat video this week, that would be lovely. I see on the video here, that the guys were busy with lots of different things so we haven't had many reactions from them in the last two weeks. Haven't had my special request done yet, I heard from George and Patrick on 3rd March but nothing since then. Well, it doesn't really matter, hopefully they will do it sometime! All the best, Jules, hope to hear from you soon. Take care now. 😊😊
@@annemaclean6634 Hi Anne! So sorry for the delay in replying. I have been helping take care of a sick friend and only get on YT now and then. So glad that your family visited.😊 Sounds like you had a wonderful time seeing all kinds of places! I love the Giant Pandas. I used to visit them often when I lived in D.C. The name Nigel is perfect for the goat - he is adorable. I hope we see another donkey video soon:) Yes, it appears the brothers are very busy - perhaps they will be posting only once a week now. Guess we will wait and see. Hope your weather is improving - the west is still getting hit with lots of wind and rain which is creating havoc across the states as the system moves east. Take care Anne and we will chat again soon.😊
@@Jules-um4yy Hi Jules, no problem at all, I thought you might have been on holiday and I was really hoping you weren't ill yourself, I'm glad to hear you're okay. I'm so sorry to hear about your sick friend though and I do hope they're improving, it's a difficult time isn't it? Yes, it was lovely seeing my nephew and his family. After visiting me, they headed up to Edinburgh and sent me some lovely pics of their visit to Edinburgh Castle etc. It costs a lot to get in to the castle now, when I used to visit years ago, the castle ramparts etc were all free and you just paid a small amount to get in to the state apartments and see the Scottish Crown Jewels etc. All change now! Yes, Nigel is a great name for the goat, he's just a little sweetheart. I do hope we get another donkey video but as Julian says, the donkeys have to be in the mood and sometimes they're just not that interested! Regarding George and Patrick, from what George said in this video they're busy with exams, work etc so we'll need to wait and see. I hope it isn't just once a week though, Jules, that's not going to be very good for their channel, I think they need to post more often than that. Hopefully it's just short term, I'm always looking for a new reaction being posted and I'm disappointed when it doesn't happen! Regarding weather, well, it's been a pretty awful March on the whole, a lot of rain, wind, very cold etc so hopefully that will change very soon. Gosh, I saw that awful tornado in Mississippi, whole villages flattened, just terrible, these poor people. As you say, wind and rain can cause such havoc. Lovely to hear from you again, Jules, don't worry about replying right away, just whenever it's suitable for you. Take care now, all the best and we can have another chat soon. 😊👍
I have my single 45 vinyl recording of this when it came out. I'm 71 now and could not have imagined myself now listening and still nodding my head in amazement.
"We've taken everything this world can give and put back nothing" Will it improve? I wish I could believe it will. Sadly I don't. I'm an old cynic I know. Great reaction guys.
An interesting coincidence. This song was released in 1969. "In the year 9595 I'm kinda wonderin' if man is gonna be alive He's taken everything this old earth can give And he ain't put back nothing" The first Earth Day observance was in 1970.
Zager & Evans were an American rock-pop duo active during the late 60's-70's. This futuristic song "2525" was their biggest hit so they are often classified as a one-hit wonder.
I’m surprised you haven’t reacted to a band called, Ambrosia. How Much I Feel and Biggest Part of Me are 2 fantastic songs. Do the official music video where they are performing live. You’re missing out.
I was 14 years old when this song came out...and was #1 in the country when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon in 1969. #1 for 6 weeks...and only charted for 12 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100...only 12 weeks. Now #1 songs can chart for a year or more.
Great analysis guys. I had many of the same thoughts 40 years ago. There's a lot of truths within the lyrics of this one maybe even more than what we know today. We'll just wait and see.
Picking your kids from a tube is here today. Not a tube, but basically the same. The older you get the faster it goes. I'm already a great grandma 12 times.
Regarding the lack of video with the track; the Bros have been doing that for awhile. I think it's easier to initially get past copyright if the images are not included, so they appear to be doing it on all of their song reactions. Or so it has seemed to me the past few months.
Holy crap, these guys got their start playing in the basement lounge of a Hilton hotel in Lincoln, Nebraska. At the 10:23 mark in this video my friend on the left said we are not from Earth. Little does he know we have evidence from a meteorite that we found on Earth to support him. Scientists found the specimen in Murchinson, Austraila that contains over 80 amino acids. If one goes back to your college biology you know humans only have 20 amino acids in a human protein. There is no debate from anyone on that point. So i ask the readers here in your own mind were we seeded from outer space? Earth is only 4.5 billion years and we have dated the Murchinson meteorite specimen much older than Earth. It gets better. The Muchinson specimen is 12 % water (not all meteorites are) and many NASA planetary scientists think meteorite bombardment in the early Earth is where our oceans water came from. This is called the theory of panspemia and is well documented... (google it.) (Muchinson meteorite has its own webpage.)
Want another weird recommendation? Back in the late 80s, the band XTC pulled a Sgt Pepper's by changing their name to Dukes of Stratosphear and releasing an homage to Sixties psychedelic pop titled "Chips From The Chocolate Fireball." It's brilliant. Draws influences from Beatles, Stones, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, Syd Barrett/Pink Floyd, and even a Beach Boys inspired track.
I miss comments to the last part of the song. it says, that maybe this already happend, and now we got a second chance to try again and do it in a better way. ....maybe it's only yesterday....
Ok that song right there is a masterpiece, get yourself some good speakers and turn them up and accentuate that beautiful music, it is absolute gold. Kids don't feel like you gotta listen to what's trending cause you miss out on real music that was created using your hands and an instrument, that's talent if you ask me. Older Gen rule 😁❤
You would have gotten all the futuristic vibe you wanted with the video. It consists of clips from the super old German silent film, "Metropolis," which is 100% worthy of its own reactjon.
One of the amazing facts is that Rick Evans actually wrote the song, the full title of which is "In the Year 2525 (Exordium & Terminus)," in 1964. Talk about being ahead of its time! It wasn't recorded until 1968 and became a hit in 1969.
Perhaps you have noticed that music goes in cycles. For example when this song came out there was a lot of songs with this theme. Songs like Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In, and the next wave was all the singers/groups were singing songs about Jesus. Superstar, Spirit in the Sky, and The Lord's Prayer were all hits. Then we had the wave of Sad story songs like Rocky, or Blind Man In The Bleachers and Teddy Bear. That put us into the Disco era where all the hits had to do with one night stands, or just partying. Do Ya Think I'm Sexy, I Love the Nightlife (Disco 'Round), and This is Hot.
GUYS GUYS GUYS. I am soooo disappointed as I wanted to see the video and you react to the images, which were quite shocking and amazing and have produced a wide and varied series of responses. Just watching you is like watching 2 people on the Underground/Subway/Tube and not seeing what they are reacting to.
WHY didn't you show the VIDEO for it, which makes it even CREEPIER than just the lyrics. The VIDEO is clips taken from the 1927 silent movie "METROPOLIS" which is about a dystopian authoritarian future. Sad that you didn't show the video. This came out summer of 1969 when I had just graduated from University and this song was all over the radio. It CREEPED ME out in 1969 and STILL DOES NOW. I firmly believe our future will be like what they describe in the lyrics, but I believe it will be that way much sooner than they mention in the song. I doubt mankind will last 10,000 years.
In the 60s we laughed at the lyrics because it was so unbelievably but, I’m 66 and not laughing now. A lot of this song has come to pass. Robots running country more and more and we are on the brink of WW3….im not laughing now. 😮
Bro's, thanks for the reaction but let's put it in true perspective by now reacting to Barry McGuire - The Eve Of Destruction Then you can continue your conversation ❤
Throughout the song is the theme of technological advancement and the loss of humanity. Every thousand years a part of humanity is erased--independent will (all you think, do and say is in a pill); senses (won't need your eyes or teeth); autonomous movement (a machine controls your arms and legs); organic family (pick your sons and daughters from glass tubes). This song can be taken as a warning: the more we pursue technological/scientific progress, the greater our chances of abandoning our humanity.
I was 15 when this song came out. It sure got me to thinking about my own mortality. But it doesn't matter. If you believe in the Lord God, you don't have a thing to worry about.
Hey guys. Always thought this was a really creepy song. I've been listening to you for a while and enjoy your reactions. I also have revisited songs from my youth that I haven't enjoyed in a bit. Some suggestions of a few songs for future reactions. Beds Are Burning by Mignight Oil Reflections of My Life by Marmalade (Original 60's version) Silent Lucidity by Queensryche-An 80's hard rock band that performed a great ballad Shelter Me by Cinderella You Win Again by the Bee Gees (Anthem rock from late Bees Gees 1987 Give it Up by Hothouse Flowers. An Irish rock band that once rivaled U2 in the 80's
You really need to react to a group called, Heart. Their song called, Alone is fantastic, powerful vocals, beautiful harmonies, great instrumentals. And this is how you sing a song. React to the official music video. You will be impressed, I guarantee it. You really can’t react to music without reacting to Heart.
Hi there, hope you're doing okay. The guys have actually done three reactions to Heart. 'Stairway to Heaven' tribute to Led Zeppelin, 'Barracuda' and 'Crazy on You'. Not done 'Alone' yet, and you're absolutely right, it's a fantastic song, I've got it downloaded. All the best. 😊😊
The part where they describe picking Sons and Daughters from a long glass tube this is being done at this time in Washington state in the u.s. the courts were involved eventually when somebody complained about this but they lost he won the right to be able to produce Sons and Daughters when there is an imbalance in the family too many of one or the other
Hi guys. I've subscribed to your channel today. Mostly because a Queen reaction video popped up in my recommendations. I've been listening to your Queen reactions all evening, but I'm surprised that you haven't done a reaction to 'One Vision' there's even a documentary about the making of it. It's one of the most iconic Queen songs, that is based on how we are all the same under God. Which was inspired originally by Dr. Martin Luther king Jnrs 'I have a dream' speech. It's also a fun video, showing them conceiving it in the studio. The documentary is a little more in depth, but I'm sure your subscribers wouldn't mind that, they seem like minded. Plus the documentary is only about the length of the 'Live Aid' video. So it's well within what people will watch. Please, please, please, do that reaction. I'm sure it will end up being one of your most viewed reactions. But check it out for yourselves first if you don't believe me. Also please do a reaction to 'Love Of My Life' in Rio. I know you've done the Wembley one, but the Rio one has a quarter of a million Portuguese speaking people singing to Freddy and chanting for Brian May. It's spine tingling. Anyhow, I'm going back to your channel for some excellent reactions to other bands too. Not sure if you've done Phil Collins 'Feel it in the air tonight' but you'll absolutely love that too. Thanks from the UK. Andy. Oh, and as a side note. I was lucky enough to see Queen at Wembley at the 'Live Aid' concert (I'm in my mid 50's). One of my best experiences ever. Plus I grew up following Led Zeppelin, they used to play one of my local pubs regularly when they were starting out, before they became iconic. I'm blessed that way. The birth of my 2 kids and Grand Daughter came close though lol.
I'm so loving you guys having genuine reactions. Whether it's joy, sadness or any other emotion. Can you do a reaction to James Blunt's 'monsters'. I'm sure you'll be emotional when you see and hear that. Thanks for a great night of following your content this evening and tonight. I only discovered your channel today. It's been an emotional rollercoaster, but I've really enjoyed the last few hours.
08:13 no, it means that it all happened already before and we're doing it all again from scratch. And I don't agree that there's nothing to say about singing - the singing is great, the inflections he makes and emotion is tightly weaved with the meaning and sounds great.
It's happening. We're heading down this road and no one seems to care. Kinda glad I'm old, will not have to participate in the destruction of our race. Feel sorry for the youngsters. If people realize that everything we're spending untold money, incalculable hours in treating are the symptoms of what is the human overpopulation problem is , we see the symptoms, NOT THE CAUSE. Think about it for a minute.
THAT is exactly why I could wait to see their reaction to those images which have produced a wide variety of responses from laughter to genuine fear and horror. I love these guys but I have never seen them without seeing a video accompanying the song. So that is where those images come from. 100 years on. Wow from South East London.
@Isleofskye I noticed on the U2 Pride reaction recently they also didn't show the video, although they were looking at the video. Idk why they started doing that.
@@PrimitiveFilmGroup Oh ! Dear! I know we don't always realize what goes on behind the scenes but, on the surface, it seems a crazy decision because we can't share the enjoyment of the video and, also, we don't know what is going on in the video what they are seeing and commenting on. It's, particularly, frustrating because when you click on this video, you can actually see the 1920 Film shot, which I assumed, they would allow us to see. As I said, it's like just seeing 2 Guys on the Underground laughing at something on their phones and we are excluded from the experience.

Another song you might want to check out is by Barry mcgraw.
Called eve of destruction.
Released in 1969. Fun fact: 1+9+6+9 = 25 ...Two contributing musicians, Q.E.D. 2525
Yes it's a very eerie song. It really makes a person think about life, our precious planet earth & man's future.
You have to realize this song was written and performed in yhe Fricking 1960s. How did they know.
This song always causes this kind of dialogue.
Just looked this up Assyrians celebrated year 6773
WHY didn't you show the VIDEO for it, which makes it even CREEPIER than just the lyrics.
I was 13 whe n this came out. so prophetic. So many things have already come true. 😢 Hearing it at 13 I thought it was all joke but I loved the song.
The word that is spelled out... Right after"guess its time for judgement day". 😬
It sounds pretty boring by 6565, with sex being irrelevant by then.
In the 60s we laughed at the lyrics because it was so unbelievably but, I’m 66 and not laughing now. A lot of this song has come to pass. Robots running country more and more and we are on the brink of WW3….im not laughing now. 😮
No video? You are missing all of the scenes that really bring the song to life.
Insightful...not prophetic, but insightful!
We need to find peace for my grandkids. ✌🏻🕊✌🏻
Bro's, thanks for the reaction but let's put it in true perspective by now reacting to Barry McGuire - The Eve Of Destruction
Then you can continue your conversation ❤
Beds Are Burning by Mignight Oil
Reflections of My Life by Marmalade (Original 60's version)
Silent Lucidity by Queensryche-An 80's hard rock band that performed a great ballad
Shelter Me by Cinderella
You Win Again by the Bee Gees (Anthem rock from late Bees Gees 1987
Give it Up by Hothouse Flowers.
@@annemaclean6634 Thank you for that. I should have investigated a little further. I still hope they make time for Alone. Best to you!
@@M00159 No problem at all, the guys have got over 600 videos, so it's a job keeping up with them all! You take care now. 👍
@@annemaclean6634 Thank you. You are kind. You also take care.
Song sounds pessimistic but reality is worse cuz we’re reaching those milestones way sooner than the song predicted 😅
You guys should make a record together. Pretend to Russian and sing this song.
You should react to Stephen Wolfe song called monster
Guys Listen to Jethro Tull - My God (Studio Version)
Similar song very worth listening to is from 1970s Canadian group *Mashmakhan - As The Years Go By* (but less depressing)
I didn't see any video with this. Why am I missing out???
Does anyone remember this video on MTV 😅
Artificial intelligence is here, test tube babies are here.
Love this song
Great song. That video!😅
This song always had a gypsy vibe to it
Look at the video for this video.
Your video is not showing………
They were off by about 500 years.
The lyrics are so far ahead of the time!
08:13 no, it means that it all happened already before and we're doing it all again from scratch.
And I don't agree that there's nothing to say about singing - the singing is great, the inflections he makes and emotion is tightly weaved with the meaning and sounds great.
You need to watch the video to go with this.
I love this song.
Re listen to the song guyes!
Welcome back!
It's because humanity never plans ahead, or thinks of the possibilities brought forth in songs like this.
more dire straits
HI REN
Are you watching the video that has clips from a 20s silent film called "Metropolis?" This is such a great song.
THAT is exactly why I could wait to see their reaction to those images which have produced a wide variety of responses from laughter to genuine fear and horror.
I love these guys but I have never seen them without seeing a video accompanying the song.
So that is where those images come from. 100 years on. Wow from South East London.
"could not wait!
It’s a terrifying song.
So is the accompanying video and this is the first reaction to it where you can't see it.
@@Isleofskye I agree
Why can’t see the video?
you gais are best ❤👍😊
