@@wizzoz1 thank you. The Zinsser BIN is really fast drying so i didn’t want to risk getting the paint nozzle clogged up as I’m a newbie. It requires mineral turpentine clean up as well rather than then just water. People definitely do spray it, I just didn’t feel confident enough.
Getting ready to paint my cabinets and stumbled upon your video! Thanks for sharing. I'm planning to do white uppers and navy blue lowers, switching out hardware to a champagne bronze color!
Well done 👏 ✔ 👍. Ive been doing my kitchen, luckily for me, my kitchen is only small lol. I've got brown wooden trim and pink laminate benches 🤮. Going with the white myself. Love how you've colour matched your kitchen to your kitty cat 🤣 🐈. Thanks, great video 👌🙏
What a great video. I love how you went through all the possible blunders and also suggested fixes and showed the difference between the sprayed finish and the roller finish. Very useful!
It looks amazing, I've been on the fence about painting my cabinets white or gray, but after seeing that your floor tile is the same color as mine and laid the exact same way, you've just made my decision easy-peasy. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you so much. Yes I used Litestone and was able to cut and install it myself. Here’s the video on that. ruclips.net/video/lPiqD5cWG2k/видео.htmlsi=_qfZv44LG_nISrDS
Hi Nicole, I painted my laminate cabinets and really like how they turned out. Have you ever done any countertops? Painted them or updated in any way? That's the next project I'd like to tackle.
Hi Drew, I haven’t refinished any countertops but I hear the epoxy finish kits are quite good. My countertops had rounded edges and angles corners so I decided to rip mine out completely. Luckily I found some amazing engineered stone countertops for $500 at an auction and installed those myself. Bargain of the century. ruclips.net/video/lPiqD5cWG2k/видео.html
Thank you soooo much Nicole. Your video is fantastic and oh so practical. We’re updating our dated timber look laminate kitchen with a white satin paint and hoping to tile over the old tiles using larger ones. Now to watch you tiling video. Ps so glad you shop at Bunnings too! ☀️☀️
Hello! FANTASTIC video- thankyou So much for the spray vs roller finish comparisons and the extra tips. I’m still looking through the comments but I have a few questions: -Did you brush/roller the primer under the spray finish? - Were end pieces/cupboard edges brushed or rolled? If it’s brushed does the finish look too different from the sprayed doors? - Did i miss if you used a top coat- pros and cons? TY ❤️
Thank you. I used a brush and roller for the primer as it’s shellac based and I didn’t want to put that through my paint sprayer as it’s hard to clean and dries too quickly. So a small brush for all the details, then a roller straight after so that smooths out any brush strokes. The top / main coat is the Dulux Renovations paint. There is no extra coat over the top of that. For the cabinets, I did the brush and roller. It’s a slightly different finish but you would never notice as the bulk of what you see is the doors anyway. I had to do 3 or 4 coats with the brush and roller, only 2 coats on the doors with the sprayer.
Your new kitchen cabinets look great! So much information and tips in this video, however, I have never heard of "Sugar Soap" so could you please tell us what it is and provide the recipe to make it or what other name it is known by in the US. Thank you.
Thank you. I painted the back first as the paint is still soft for around a week. Doing your final coat on the front means it will minimise any little divets from leaning on the box or whatever you are spraying on top of. Hope thy makes sense.
Thanks so much. Yes it certainly brightens up beige kitchens! If you do yours, I would love to see a before and after pic! I’m @nicoleherrickdiy on other social media for sharing images
I'm in the U.S. and wasn't sure what "sugar soap" was. Sugar water? What? Anyway, google revealed it to be trisodium phosphate (TSP) here in the states, which is readily available at any hardware store. Great video and loved your upbeat demeanor and multitudes of cats!
The dulux renovate primer is only for laminate doors I am pretty sure. For timber it says you don’t need to use a primer but the tannins actually bleed though on most wood so that why I used the zinser BIN to lock in all the tannins and stop bleeding.
Great video. I have the exact same kitchen cabinets (although mine are square not curved) and the exact same white cat :) I did start this a while back but got discouraged as had the wrong primer which showed the yellow through. I was also told to get BIN so will try again :)
No this paint smooths out nicely. If you look really close on the ones I had to paint with a brush, you can see a few tiny brush strokes on one cupboard but all the other cupboards I did with a brush look great. Make sure you use a really good quality brush.
This was helpful! Thank you! I have primed and I will start painting mine tomorrow. Can I ask, why didn't you use the primer with the added hardener (also in the Deluxe renovation range)? I used it today and it is also self levelling, giving a very smooth finish.
The only primer they had when I used this range was for laminate. For timber it said no primer was needed but when I tried that, the tannins bled through. The Zinser BIN works out fairly cheap per job as it’s very thin so you don’t use much.
@@NicoleHerrickDIY Ah! Fair enough. I also used Zinzer BIN to stop stains seeping through - before the 'Renovations primer' with the hardener (as per Dulux recomendations) I'm not sure why they call it a primer - it's clear ?! It' must have come out after they released the cupboard paint.
I used the zinsser primer and it was amazing such a smooth finish. I then used the gloss renovation paint and it's quite a textured finish. Not sure if thats the way it's supposed to look. Thinking I should have used the satin :(
Hi Nicole, I’m doing up my Mum and Dads house and will eventually be doing this. I’ve done many many many things and yes it is trial and much error. I should have taken before and after a but I take care of my Dad. I will however remember to take photos when I get to it xo
It’s actually done really well. There is one tiny patch where it hit my metal range hood and has chipped. But I put that door back on after repainting it and didn’t leave it a week to cure like I did the rest. Other than that, no scratches at all.
Amazing, been so helpful! Question: why didn't you spray the Zinnser BIN too?

Hi Nicole, just wondering why you used zinsser primer versus the Dulux renovate primer? Awesome kitchen Reno btw!!

No it can be used on veneer doors as well
How many litres of paint did you use to do your whole kitchen?
Good question. I think I used 2.5 litres of the top coat cabinet paint. That was 2 coats.
great job! Beautiful, clean, it really looks wonderful.
Thank you so much

Hi Nichole do I need to finnish off with a clear top coat when using satin finish on the cabinet doors
No the satin cabinet paint is the top coat. It will cure to a very hard wearing finish. Just be gentle with it for the first month.
Thank you will do.
the kitchen looks amazing! well done!
Thank you so much!
Does the paint remain textured after it dries?

220 grit to scruff the surface and allow the primer to stick.

Does it look like orange peel? Mine looked like that when I first sprayed it but it settled and became flat.
