Great video Niall, lovely segment from JB and very funny about your "nip" to Wales to see Liz 😄 Plenty of seeds sowing ahead now 🥰 best wishes from co.Kerry
Thank you for your suggestions and advice. I am anxiously waiting for warmer weather. I am planting lettuce, spinach, and onions. This week, I will try my hand at potatoes.
Niall: What can I say? Your advice last year was a revelation for me so I bought another 50 bulbs last month. I was nervous because I did not get them in the pots I bought and thought I would have to toss them out. But, now that I've seen this video and re-watch the video you did last year, I will get them in soil tomorrow. Thank you again and wish me luck. DA (Vancouver, WA)
@@niallgardens I totally will. Last year, you encouraged me to grow lilies and I placed 8 in one plastic pot. I thought they would grow to 2 feet tall but they grew to 6.5 feet tall. Plus, each stalk had around 15 blossoms. It was a sight to behold - all because of you and your exceptional channel. Thank you very much indeed. Take care and be safe up there in the air. DA
What a great Sunday morning video, a real buzz about this video. Really great recommendations, lots of my favourites, calendualas, potatoes, tomatoes, lillies, lettuce, fantastic tips. Thank you. Live younip to Wales section ha ha. Haven't one seed planted, but it's a must this week. Thanks Niall, JB and Liz.
Hi Lorraine! So glad you enjoyed the video - I had a feeling the nip across to Wales would give you laugh! Don't worry, I've got some stuff sown, but not vast quantities and you're certainly not behind the curve whatsoever.
Sowing seeds in March is a great way to kick off the gardening season! As the weather starts to warm up and the days get longer, it's the perfect time to start planting some vegetables and herbs.
Love the bit about calendulas and saffron, didn’t know that. Thanks for the video Niall am already subscribed to JB and Liz Am going to sow my lettuce seeds in pots this year about 3 weeks apart so I have a continuous supply😊🌱🪴
I really like those Calendula and I like that they self sow 🌼☺️ I'm gonna look for some seeds at one of my garden centers here in Oklahoma, USA! Thanks, Niall!!!
Planted up my potatoes on Friday which was great! I’ve got some marigolds to plant but going for the when to plant by the moon this year to see how I get on so these will been in the next couple of weeks before planting them! Hope you had fun at Liz’s at the weekend and you didn’t get rained on too much!
Morning Niall church time again, snow still on our gardens, had about 6 inches here Thursday Friday, but the suns shining today, I'll catch this later thank you 🙏x
Love your new intro. Very colorful. Thanks for all the tips. Hello to Liz. We are having another cold spell in Texas this week. Planting lettuce, onions and potatoes. My Victoria white and Victoria Blue Salvia is spreading and shooting up already. Texas Bluebonnets are showing their color. Forsythia bloomed in February it was 70 plus. Today in the 40's. Weather is always crazy here. Take care and have a great week.
I don't grow vegetables but I do grow tomatoes. Lilies are one of my favourite plants in my perennial gardens. I can never have enough. I'm in zone 5b Canada and can't plant out until May. It's -2C here and we are expecting more snow. Love your videos and early spring flowers. Bonny
Great idea to use calendula as safran, I'm gonna try that ! I bought new lily bulbs (hello, I'm a plant addict) and was thinking of planting some in some big pots arrangements :): muscadet and magic star (double one !)
Fantastic as usual Niall. Some really great advice. I'm going to try more lilly's this year as I had success with a couple last year. I shall be growing them Niall style! Thank you x
Didnt know about adding calendula petals to food. But sort of makes sense. Are you still using the seed trays that have the separation rows of cells. Are they still working well? I really must pull my finger out and gets some seeds planted. But lack of warm light growing space is a little bit of a hindrance
I am still using them actually and they're super. Sadly I only have one unit, but it gets constantly reused and it's still in perfect condition, 2 years later. Yeah I can see where you're coming from in terms of having limited room that's light and warm. Have a great week!
I guess one of the reasons I like lilies is because I inherited a patch of the common old fashion orange red ones that would have been most likely been planted over 100 years ago. Not old by Ireland standards but historic by North Dakota standards. I wish I could time travel to tell the gardener who planted them and say there still here. Plus, their deer resistant!!!
I think it might depend on the lilies in question. Cannas have edible roots/rhizomes similar to dahlias. However, I have never tried to eat either. Also, aren't onions and leeks related to lilies?
Thanks for the warning ⚠️ about the Lilly’s as I love them but my puppy loves flowers and eating them so not good if they ☠️ poisons sadly…. But everything else I’m growing.
Niall, could you give me a little advice please? Re the tomatoes, I've sown some seeds in a tray but need to put it on a windowsill for warmth. Do I put it on a very sunny south facing sill, or a north facing one? Also, do I spray with water occasionally? Thank you, S.
Hi Sue! Tomatoes really do like heat and light so for me, I would put them on a nice bright sunny south facing windowsill. They’re going to appreciate all of that light. Spraying them occasionally to keep the compost moist is a good idea - the only thing that I would caution, is if you have the tray covered with something like a little plastic lid, be careful if you go out for the day because it could get very very hot on a very sunny day. Hope this helps!
Listening to JB is very relaxing. Thanks for sharing him :)

Thanks Maiju! That's great that you're well stuck into your seed sowing as well!
JB has such a soothing voice! I wasn't expecting it.
Great information and video all around
Glad you enjoyed it! JB's super isn't he!
Thank you for your suggestions and advice. I am anxiously waiting for warmer weather. I am planting lettuce, spinach, and onions. This week, I will try my hand at potatoes.
Wonderful! Hopefully you have great harvests from the potatoes!

Hi Donald! Ah that's brilliant - I'm so glad that it helped! Let me know how you get on with them!

Sowing seeds in March is a great way to kick off the gardening season! As the weather starts to warm up and the days get longer, it's the perfect time to start planting some vegetables and herbs.
It is indeed a great time for that - I've made a couple of videos dedicated to what we can sow in terms of veg, herbs, and flowers!
Love the bit about calendulas and saffron, didn’t know that. Thanks for the video Niall am already subscribed to JB and Liz Am going to sow my lettuce seeds in pots this year about 3 weeks apart so I have a continuous supply😊🌱🪴
Nice! It really is the key (successional sowing) not that I'm always that good at it myself! ha!
Brilliant video and yes totally agree, stick to what you want to grow and then reap the rewards ,,😃👍🍀
Wonderful video, as always, fantastic information. On my way out tobuy some calendula seeds. Thanks Niall.
Thanks Ann! Yeah Calendula are just super super super!

So nice of you, thank you! I can well imagine that you're still under snow. I'm very fortunate to live in such a temperate moderate climate

Hi Geraldine! Ah thanks so much! Hopefully those lilies will bloom their hearts out for you!
Lovely collection Niall 🍃🌸🍃
Thanks so much 😊
Sow seed outdoors in mild areas with light soil, eg: broad beans, carrots, parsnips, beetroot, onions, lettuces, radish, peas, spinach, summer cabbage, salad leaves, leeks, Swiss chard, kohl rabi, turnip and summer cauliflower.
Plant shallots and onion sets.
Great list! I agree with the vast majority of those things too!
Didnt know about adding calendula petals to food. But sort of makes sense.

100 years ago? That's so so cool! What a thing to inherit. Imagine planting bulbs unaware that they'd be growing so far into the future - brilliant!
I adore calendula too 💜
They're just so great aren't they?

Loved this video!
Glad you liked it!!

Super! Happy growing!
Plz grow some summer vrgetables like bitter guard or bottle guarde
I’ll definitely give them some consideration!
