That was an interesting comparison. The carbines velocity advantage was a way more than what I expected. Good thing you were ready when those bad guys showed up!😃
Yep. I've chronied both my 1858's, carbine and handguns. The longer barrel will always give much more velocity. That's been my experience too. Thanks Dustin.
Thank you for making and publishing this video.😊 I have both of these revolvers and love them. I would like to see a video on using a 44 to 45 Colt caliber Cartridge conversion in this Carbine Revolver.😃
Thanks So Much for saving us from those dirty High Fructose gang! I’m so relieved now because of that Fine Carbine! Keep on keepin on Brother! Many Blessings! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
I am on the same page. I got a 5" sheriff model 1860, got a 12" barrel and removable stock and it's so much fun to reenact a few dollars more. Since black powder is exempt from 16" barrel laws, it just makes sense to take advantage of that. I normally use 30 grains in mine.
I appreciate you posting this. I was among the people who asked for it and wanted to compare it with the .44 Henry's energy. The reality is they're still very far apart!
Now, now. You didn't seriously expect the carbonated members of the Hi-Fructoes Gang to make a 2024 New Year's resolution to stop interrupting your video shoots, did you?
Here's a blast from the past: Just bought a FIE imported (with no mfgr stamp visible, dunno if one's inside) 1858 Remington steel-frame replica, with flask, inline capper (full up) and nipple wrench and a tin with a few CCI #11 caps left in it. Has the Styrofoam block but no box. 4-digit-and-a-letter serial number. All in all, in pretty good shape for an item which arrived in the States at some unknown date prior to FIE's bankruptcy in 1990. As the flask seems to be a bit larger than the cast pocket for it in the plastic, I'm guessing it probably isn't the one that originally came with the revolver.
Never did a chrony on either of mine, but you can tell the carbine packs a bigger punch than the pistol just by shooting both of them. Thanks for the vid.
Thank you for the very helpful info! Especially if you were to use conicals, you could probably get it pretty close to 1000 fps. I may consider working up a good conical load and taking the carbine out for whitetail hunting this year.
So with these results, that would mean that the "Joker gun" is more powerful than the NMA? Just out of curosity, I we need a matching between the Carbine and the "Joker gun" now!
By the looks of it, the carbine might be able to get over 500 ftlb with a max load and shorter flat nose 225-250 gr conical. I've done it in mine and they have a lot more thump, but i don't have a cronograph. 👍
I think this is the only chronograph data on the Remington 1866 revolving rifle (erroneously called the 1858 carbine). I’d love to see someone get different barrel length and powders and compare goex to Swiss to triple 7 with a 3.5 5.5 8 12 and 18 inch barrels. That would definitely be a thorough video!!!
nice! could you also test precision of the 2 guns? (from a rest). a lot of people think that a longer barrel equals greater precision. and these 2 are practically identical except the barrel length
I am sure that, as you eat more birthday cakes, your ears will continue to grow, with or without protection. OTOH, your hearing will diminish at an alarming rate if you don't protect it.😅
Could the greater power from the carbine also have to do w the spin? Range/power is a function of spin (which is why unrifled muskets have far less power... and why rockets are often "programmed" to spin by the fins... and why, now that I think about it, quarterbacks learn to put spin on the football when they throw). Rifles give the rounds more time to enter a faster spin rate
Dang man that powder your running is slow!!! You got room for 40 grains behind a conical, use it!!! You should be getting 400-500 foot pounds with quality black powder and 500-700 foot pounds with triple 7 abd other substitutes. The larger volume of powder definitely will give you way more potential.
Never had a problem with mine and I've put hundreds if not thousands of rounds through it. It will throw cap "shrapnel" from time to time so I wear eye protection.
No, but it may have started defaulting to that. I noticed that comments were disabled, but I fixed that. Let me look into it. I agree that would be cringe.

Yeah, they just about got the drop on me! If only we had TUCO around here, that might put the fear in ‘em! 😂 Thanks for watching!
@@GunsOfTheWestl heard it was lil buddy put em up to it, he's one sneaky dude.

Interesting as always. Many thanks for that.
Great info! I forgot to tell you I saw a recruitment email about the High Fructose Gang. Thought it was spam....but apparently not.

I absolutely love your videos. They are humorous, entertaining, and very informative. Please keep making these awesome videos.
Will do, my friend! Thanks for watching!

Cool stuff! I have a hankering to build a farby Remington carbine from the 12 barrel brass model and aftermarket stocks.

Im happy i own both 🤣 theyre neat little guns. Also got an 1858 bison with a 12 inch barrel things nuts with a stock.
my brain tells me twin 1858 .44 my heart tells me twin 1847 walkers i can deal with the quirks im a professional

Oh please do keep the High Fruitose Gang feud going.I missed those guys! Another great video.

Great vid...now can we have a vid of your cannon
Here’s one that I e already done: ruclips.net/video/XsOr_2YI2DY/видео.htmlsi=nMKgnzdne3vC5Zdk
Thanks for watching!
Oh yeah the cannon it always puts a smile on my face when l see it in the titles lol.
Great vidio sir thank you

I like the 1858 Remington. .. i think a flip up tang sight on the carbine might be interesting for long range shots. Liked and enjoyed the video!

Really nice. I want a carbine badly just wish pietta made 1. That would match my revolvers
Informative and fun ❤

Where do you get your caps at ?
What can 30 grains give you? How does that compare to the Walker?
The carbine is a really cool piece of history but the design is pretty horrible considering the risk of chain fire
Never have had a chain fire on mine and I've put hundreds if not thousands of rounds through it.
Use wonder wads between powder and ball. Never had one either, and i tried by running no wads or grease for about 5 cylinders.
I am sure that, as you eat more birthday cakes, your ears will continue to grow, with or without protection. OTOH, your hearing will diminish at an alarming rate if you don't protect it.😅
good test! LOL @ high fructose gang!
I know the Carbine will be a Uberti, what was the NMA from?
Does Pyrodex work with cowboy loads for the Single Action Army?
100 yd. dead on with the carbine

The carbine looks like it would be hard to hold and shoot accurately. Is it?
I’m a pretty large person and it’s awkward for sure. I think smaller people would be more comfortable with it.

@@SSN515yep should always wear eye protection. 😊
@@biggusdickus5986 Yep. Some don't though. Actually quite a number don't.
I guess the difference would be even bigger if you used the usual 30 grain charge.
Is that the new garmin chronograph?
It’s actually made by FX Airguns. It’s awesome, but it only goes up to about 1,300 FPS or so.
😊👍
is it true that you disabled dislikes? Kind of cringe if ya did brother gotta be honest here.
No, but it may have started defaulting to that. I noticed that comments were disabled, but I fixed that. Let me look into it. I agree that would be cringe.
Ok, I think it’s fixed. On the new Studio upload feature, I guess you have to check a box to allow reactions. Thanks for catching that!
RUclips started disabling the dislikes l have been led to believe.
I would not have the Remington carbine, if someone gave me one.
I bet you would really tho, you could just sell it on. 😂
