The way he appreciated Felix being his last opponent was beautiful. Very touching end with his wife.
Yep. Not a French player, but a French-Canadian speaking player from Montreal and the next generation...seemed appropriate.
Yes, Felix show a class that other NG players need to emulate
Congrats to Simon on an amazing career.
Also awesome to see FAA with such an improved mentality. Would have been so easy for him to mentally check out yesterday down a set and 1-4 BP, but he fought through. And he did a great job staying focused today given the situation. Such a great sportsman too, very subdued celebration and a nice moment at the net. Lovely touch when he signed the camera "Merci Gillou".
A great fighter.
I enjoyed to see his play..... 👍Thanks Simon!!!!!!!
Great player great person, all the best!
Those last words towards his wife and kids - stop cutting onions please ... 🥲🥲🥲🥲
Jo Willie should have made #1 along with Gael Monfis and David Goffin. These guys are skilled to the teeth and have been dedicated they should be honored
Great career from Gilles. Felix really showing how classy he is too.
One of my favorite players in his era. First saw him in person on the practice courts at Indian Wells and thought to myself: I've never seen juniors on the practice court. He didn't go for any flashy shots or showcase explosive speed or athleticism, but he made the most with what he was given. It was easy to appreciate the hard work showcased on and off the court. Wish you the best on your years in retirement.
The French really are the best at celebrating their retiring players.
Congrats on a wonderful career Gilles! I still remember your finals match against Federer in Shanghai in 2014.
they even gave a perfect farewell to Marat Safin
I wish del Potro could've retired here you know, just for the ceremony to be more matching to a top player like him. But he's choice is his hometown and I respect that.
Happy retirement and what a career Gilles!
Bro had me in tears at the end with that bit towards his wife🎉
He really loves his wife, You can hear it in how he speaks and his breathing. He truly cares about her and their relationship. What a guy!
Gillou is one of those guys that squeezed every last drop of potential he had.
Not true he actually had more potential but I think his counterpunching game style that he held onto too strongly held him back but he’s actually very talented
@@Zarlock0 yeah agreed, like monfils and gasquet he was always a bit too defensive. Tsonga always had the best mentality of his gen of french players
Gilles always seemed like a nice guy and he was the definition of a grinder, working hard for every point. Not the most flashy or entertaining game, but he deserves a round of applause for always being there next to the best and occasionally giving them trouble.
I also had a crush on him as a kid, so yeah, goodbye and good luck Gilles, i wish you all the best.
His game was flashy and entertaining with beautiful shit making and style on his ground strokes and a fluidity in his movement and effortless ball striking that I have never seen before
He is more talented than Roger Federer but unfortunately couldn't not reach same level as Roger. So kids talent alone won't take you far.
@@HDMB0430 ok that's cap
@@hello-mv6yg yes it is true even I think Roger said once that Giles is more talented than him.
@@HDMB0430 that was probably a million years ago, if he had all that talent, why does he play this baseline grindy game? He could've added more variety and won a lot more in his career.
Amazing player, a great detail from Felix to stay for the ceremony to share with Giles his last ATP event. True sportmanship and great respect to both players.
We will miss him , he is such a nice person and he is friendly with everyone.
Only hearing about Gillou in this tournament, but seems like he's had a huge impact on French Tennis. Great to see Felix, Tsonga, Gael, and Djokovic & Nadal, celebrate his career. Merci, Gillou 💙
Shame Federer or Murray weren't included as well...i also was expecting to see more of french players approaching him personally not just Mahut! I was expecting Gasquet, Chardy, Mannarino, maybe even former recent era players like Llodra or Mathieu...but it is what it is, if every single one of them shown up it probably would have been too crowded! LOL
@@Summon256 Pouille was also there not just Mahut
@@angelnope9616 Alright i forgot to mention him in my post, but my point still stands...there should have been more!
@@Summon256 True
Insane atmosphere💚 what a great ceremony for Gilou! Very moving, and Felix is such nice person to have been his last opponent🥳
A legend! One of the most talented guys (his touch is just Godlike)... OK he doesnt have the speed in the shots, nor spins, but his touch is just out of this world... Farewell legend!!
He's a decent top player, that no doubt will be remembered, but "legend" is a stretch...legends usually win slams or become world number one ranked players, but he was solid consistent top player once, so he deserves a nod, just don't overhype him simply because it is his turn to retire, he ain't Federer, when it comes to achievements...
He had the speed in the shots when he wanted to. I've seen several rallies of his where he suddenly throws a bomb winner shot at the right moment.
@@Summon256Bro doesn’t get it
TU nous manqueras GILOU ❤
Sad to see another great player retire, but thanks for the memories, Gilou. I’ve always liked your game- your effortless groundstrokes and your efficient movement on the court. You’ll be missed, for sure. Happy retirement!
I didn't know who he was before this, but he really touched my heart by the way other people talked about him and how he talked about other peopl.
Congratulations, Gilles on a great career and best of luck in your new chapter of life! Very touching ceremony :)
2022 is tough for Tennis - Tsonga, Del Potro, S. Williams, Barty, Simon and of course Federer
Emocionante!!! Great player!!
Great gentleman! Great competitor! Will be missed……….Thanks for the memories! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼❤️🎾🎾🎾
Surprise the Goat Benoit Paire is not there to share his thoughts
🐐Lol
paire is busy getting his ass whooped in challengers
Where were Gasquet, Paire, Mannarino, Humbert, and Gaston in the celebration?
As they explained a lot of them were at his first match but he won the match so they thought they'll come back for the final 😂
💙💙💙You see how MUCH he LOVES his wife,....you see how much he appreciates Felex.....felicidad Gillou,...un bon person,...un bon homme,...💙💙💙
Gilles Simon, it is very nice to watch your games for such a long time! You are a really good-looking French guy and a great tennis player. Wish you all the best and very successful life.
Felix Class!
congrats Gilles Simon. What a career👏🏽👏🏽
Bye Gilles, you were one of the 4 musketeers in the greatest tennis generation. Good luck in your future endeavors.
I love me some Gilles Simon!
Lovely guy, lovely player, we're going to miss him.
Next gen, so far, does not have half the charm of these guys
Congratulations to Simon. Good news for Taylor Fritz In future tournaments.
Bonne chance 🙏
Thank You Simon for the years of entertainment! Professional life is difficult for the family
I consider myself very honoured to ve' been part from the way which Gilles has got through in his career.
No doubts, one of kindest and most respectful person who i've ever seen in the tour since started to watch tennis (talking about many years ago), always smiling, showing good vibes, but also a very talented player, full of spirit fighting to face every single match and witness from authentic big battles on the court, specially those which many of us will remember forever by their incredible length.
Wishing him health and the best for this new stage which has already started in his life and loved ones' s too 👈 👈 🎾 🇫🇷
Well said! He is one of the best and respectful player on tour. He will be truly missed, he was always professional every match and fought for every point. Happy retirement Dear Gilou and thanks for the memories. All the best to you and your family. Wishing you great health and success and can't wait to see the next chapter of your journey......
I will remember his fighting spirit! Very smart player also.
It would be nice having a Fed and Gasquet message
Gasquet also sent a Message (Medvedev in French as well ) but it was cut in the Video
Congrats to Gilles on a great career with many achievements!
A great player and a lovely lad. He always looked the same. Good luck Giles.
Watched this live.. was a touching moment when Felix AA walks to the net (at 00:32) with a little glancing smile towards Simon.
what a great celebration of his career, well deserved!
Congrats to Gilles for your amazing career! Even with the injury at your late career, you still worked hard for every point. Wish you all the best
Gilles, you were my favorite player, good luck for next part of your life! :)
Your choice sucks 😂
great guy, all the best in the future, Gilles!
Ao 2016 5 setters match against prime beast Djokovic in that tournament
Remembered for ever
Beautiful heart on this man.
nice...very sweet video! it's always sad these farewells... ma... that's life...
a nice road ahead for you gillou. all the very best... from a devoted tennis fan!
Best of luck Gilles .Felix showed again he is 100% class and properly raised . I am sure his parents are proud of him but they should also be proud of themselves as they have clearly done a great job. So surprised Gilles fought so hard to get back in form and then retired when he was in pretty good form.
I don't know I have been a fan of Simon through out and always wanted him to win. I wish him good luck where ever he goes. He certainly won so many hearts because of his wonderful character.
@tennis TV can you please upload Marat Safin retirement in 2009 Bercy ?
It's great to even give tribute to players who couldn't win a grandslam.
always makes me wonder a caliber of player like Simon how little attention he got throughout his very long carreer
how good he was and even couldnt achieve a 1000 ATP tour win...think about it for a second
tennis is tough man...
David Ferrer who was one of the most consistent and probably the 5th best guy on the tour for almost a decade, never managed to win a masters title either.
@@justiceisanillusion5602 ferrer won Paris masters
The era of big 3 caused a lot of great players to miss on some basic titles
@@Mrfix-iz4di Ah yea sorry my bad. But still. 1 masters title to his name, with that career he had, really shows hard it has been as ballage87 mentions.
There is no denying that Gilles Simon had a very high tennis IQ!
Thank's Gilles for everythink!
Great guy but average tennis player, very boring to watch..
I don't want to sound like a Jerk but he is Underachieved.
Bravo Gilles!!!❤️
French tennis has a good culture
to be honest as a french, not really: any article about tennis on french media will end up in a comment section full of hateful comments of people who don't realize at all that Tsonga, Monfils and Simon got amazing careers.
All of these players are probably much more popular abroad than here, luckily the audience actually attending the matches in French Open or Paris Masters are usually much more cheerful and respectful
@@Cousinouf wow good to know thanks for the intel
Much love from Latvia too! ❤️🙏
Met Gilles in Rotterdam in 2020. Told him I saw him in 2010 Washington DC in a loss to Nalbandian. Instantly, he says "Yea, but the day before I beat Roddick" Blessings, to you and your family!
at the end tennis wins no matter who retired and that was felix A and bless gilles good luck and bless him and his family
I'm not crying...............................
I've been watching Holger Runde and asked myself: who does he look like? Stefan Edberg, the former Swedish world number one Wimbledon champion and so forth... He looks a lot like Edberg both in the way he moves and plays and I hope for Rune's sake that he will start to resemble Edberg in the way he behaves on the court as well. Stefan Edberg was always a gentleman.
Giles Simon is Underachieved
Quelle carrière Gillou ! Merci pour tout ! 💙
a super great backhand.
I sure hate that they are all wearing the same thing.
What's song's name at 1:24?
Thank you Giles Somon !
Love you, Miss you..
Enjoy now with your beautiful & supporting wife.
🇫🇷simon👏👍😃
Thank you ATP for providing cc of Gilles speech in English.
I had the opportunity to watch Gilles Simone play many matches over the years, including all in his last tournament. He has always performed in a classy way & I wish him & his beautiful family all the best.
We would like to exchange tickets for day session for tickets for night session? We have three day tickets for balcon, entrance R, row 92…
It's really the end of an era. Thanks for everything, Simon!! 👏👏
who knows the name of the lady behind FAA at1min09?
My fond memories of Simon would be his title winning match in Brisbane.... Not sure about the year ...
Gilles best Tour 37 years old - the best form Man. Congrats !
Great player. Not bout force and space, but tactics and finesse.
The way he remembered and mentioned his wife ❤💕 Lovely!!
Felix Auger in this tournament and Cilic in French Open are class act. They both showed respects to Simon.
I’m not crying… you are 😢 we will miss you Gillou❤
Enjoy your life with your family after your tennis career. More power and God speed.
Adios Gilou et BRAVO à toi!
Tsonga just retired a while back and now Gilles. Simon was not a power player, he relies on the unforced errors of his opponent, utilizing his speed, making less unforced errors and exploiting the weakness of his opponents. That strategy enabled him to reach number 6 in the world in 2009 and win 14 titles on tour. He will be missed. Gasquet may follow soon. Rinderknech, Bonzi, Gaston,Humbert, Halys and Moutet are the ones who keeps the torch of French tennis burning in the coming years.
The GOAT is Djokovic, and I say this as a Swiss!
I was at his R4 match against Djokovic at the 2016 Australian Open. Plenty of the 100 'unforced' errors by Djokovic were actually the result of the pressure applied by Simon's ability to keep the ball in play and force Djokovic to go for shots he otherwise wouldn't. It was such a great match to watch.
Bye ❤🎉🎉SIMON🎾🎾🎾love you 🎉🎉❤
