    Alyssa Carson has big dreams. At the age of 13 she is determined to be the first person to land on Mars. But this is more than wishful thinking - Nasa thinks she stands a chance and she is already in training. Alyssa is studying science and several languages and became the first person to attend all three of Nasa's world space camps. Her call sign at the US space agency is "Blueberry".
    The teenager from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, says failure is not an option. And her father says he has the next 20 years of work planned out.

    So paying to go to space camp 50 times means you can be an astronaut? I think I'd prefer the first person on Mars to have at least an engineering degree or something.

    • @djunior874
      @djunior874 9 лет назад +11

      Milo Flint Firstly, it seems to me this girl is from a middle class background whose family could afford college in the USA if they wanted to.
      Secondly, in many countries college education is free or can be paid for through a student loan that only begins to be paid back when you start earning over a certain threshold.
      Thirdly, I don't care if it means someone from a disadvantaged background doesn't get to 'realise their dream': I want the most qualified person to be undertaking such an historic mission. Also, isn't it most peoples' dream to go to Mars?

      Are u a femenist? Oh well...first of all her chances are really slim since SpaceX is launching a manned mars mission in 2024 and her ride is supposed to be a decade later in 2033 and she wont be of the right age to go to mars in 2024. Oh well alyssa you tried.

      It really doesn’t matter cause there would be too many people to choose from anyway. She has the potential and the trip won’t be for many years so she may get those degrees by the time she goes to Mars. Not every5ing should be based on age and who has the most experience. You wouldn’t like it if your boss picked someone else’s proposal over yours just because they’ve been with the company for longer. She may be the best choice especially because she has grown up surrounded by this stuff.

    This isn't fair. Some kid is out there simply fascinated with Mars and is dying to be the first one to step on the surface to make history, but his parents doesn't have enough money to take him to NASA Space Centers, Space Camps, International School enrollment like Alyssa. Her chances are very slim and I think it's nice that they're people encouraging her, because you never know, she might just be the first person.

      Well, if you know for sure that you won't be able to be the first, work your hardest to be one of the first. Inform yourself about how to become an astronaut. It basically involves superior studies in sciences, maths or engineering, 5 years of experience (master counts as 1-2 and doctorate as 5) in that field or 1000 hours of piloting experience. You must know perfect english and have perfect vision (glasses are allowed). The hardest thing in my opinion is that they have into account where you studied your degree, but if your grades are excellent i'm sure they won't let the chance slip away.
      After you've been selected for astronaut candidate you will need to improve your physical training (military training, scuba diving to hold high preassures, etc), learn russian and lots of other things. If you get chosen, you may or may not go to mars first, but you will be an astronaut after all and possibly go later into the future. If you don't get chosen they still hire you in NASA, but you will be doing other things instead of going to space.
      Overall, study hard, train hard, keep yourself motivated and move to the USA as soon as you can, since they also have into account how much time you've been in the country.

There are also cure for cancer but western governments don't want to release cures to the public because the west has a capitalist ideology which also means that if cures were to be given to the public, the cancer treatment centers(which is a multi billion industry if not trillion) would lose all their money. its all business related which is kinda sick.That's why capitalism is so flawed and it keeps us from evolving and advancing.

    What would be the benefit of someone going to a planet and not coming back? why even go to a planet with very slow spaceships that would take decades to arrive? Why not wait until we are able to have faster ships and better technologies? I think we should be a little patient until we are more advanced in technology in general. We are still in the first stages of technology believe it or not. We have a long way to go in order for us to have a decent technological prowess

    xD If Mars would exist as a landing-able planet, she could be. Otherwise it's just another lie on NASA's countless list of lies.

    Sometimes being a kid means having unstructured time. This is how you learn to structure your own time. Over-involved parents are a pain.

    all these people who are ok with never comming back are in a state of mind on earths gravity, in earths air. with all its beautiful smells and feelings. You'd have to give up everything you love about earth. your hands and feet will never touch an environment again. imagine never swimming in the sun or walking outside again!!!
