Holy shit FINALLY. Firstly, their drummer Jamie St Merat is a pure freak of nature and a creative force. I've seen them live 3 times, and he fucking hits every single note with full speed AND power, but also has perfect control of dynamics. He is legitimately one of the most creative and forward drummers in one of the most forward thinking metal bands of all time. I know I'm frothing them hard, but they're pretty much held at the tip top zenith standard in extreme metal. Though they're not an easy band to digest for a first time listen. I'm sure some people will hear this and think it's noise and unfocused, but Ulcerate are one of the most tightly composed and constructed bands on the planet, they're just incredibly unorthodox and outside the box. They are CONTROLLED chaos and discordance with which they paint apocalypse scenery. This album was also played with two guitarists but since they've only had one, and he loops layers of riffs and melody with a looping pedal. Which is really hard to do with different time signatures and tempo changes. If you do another song, they do have a bunch of albums, but the most recent one is incredibly pallatable by their standards and highly melodious.
Ulcerate is the future of extreme metal happening just now. They are fucking innovative, and St Merat is out of this world. 'Stare into death...' is one of the best things I've heard in my 25 years as a headbanger.
I saw them live once, I talked to Jamie and took a picture with him. You are on every right to front them! Easily one of the best bands currently. Creating art every single time!
I kinda listen to this band the same way as I listen to Mgla. What I mean by that is that I find the drumming carries the song more than the guitars which play more of an atmospheric role
As the resident Kiwi, have seen Ulcerate a bunch of times, hung out with Jamie. The Dude is so nice, chill etc. Zero Ego - and then he gets on the kit and just does things that barely conform to the Laws of Physics.
This isn't their best song but damn am I glad you got into these musical geniuses 💪 so immersive and alluring! And yes, Jamie Saint Merat SERIOUSLY stands out above the rest of extreme metal drummers. Utterly tasty, technical and creative
@@jesuscontreras124 grande hermano tal vez su canción más dinámica ....adoro el final de esa con el tapping riff y la monumental tormenta de doble bombo y guturales del siempre magistral e intimidante Paul....
Cool to see this great NZ band covered here...and production wise this is my favorite album of them...I find it more balanced & sharp than "Stare into Death and Be Still" , for instance, also better voice integration wise, just my opinion. Cheers from France !
I'm 2 years late to this. Anyway, the drummer of Ulcerate is one of my top fav drummers. Yeah, the speed is impressive, but what's innovative is HOW he plays the drums. It sounds practically MELODIC, and the fills are peak. Y'all REALLY should watch his drumcam / drum track stuff because it'll make it super clear his speed is only one component of what he's doing. It is absolutely amazing. Hope you return to this band eventually.
That was a fun review! Ulcerate are indeed one of the most unique, talented and most original extreme metal bands around. And yes, the drumming is real. Here he is tracking the album: ruclips.net/video/Vuk1v2m8BrI/видео.html
Please, react to Rainbow - Catch the rainbow, and Dio - As long it's not about love, these are the best songs of Ronnie in my opinion. Love your reactions btw
After "reacting" for 3 years, VinAnd Sori still have no idea what metal is. (There is still hope for Vin if he open his mind to it - Sori :D well, she is fine to look at on half of monitor :D)
@@Maduro7 It's both. I'm sure Ulcerate were influenced by Gorguts' older material (Obscura, From Wisdom to Hate) but Gorguts'new material after their hiatus sounds like it's come full circle and gorguts are taking influence from Ulcerate
what a romantic and nostalgic song.... ulcerate is just full of emotions... every single album is just a masterpiece

“Stare into death and be still” was easily the best metal album of 2020.
fuck yeah it was
also their best and would be a classic in years to come!
In 10 years or so we will look back and say 'I was there, waiting on line for this masterpiece to be released'.

The drummer is Jamie Saint Merat. One of my favorite drummers of all time.
Now do "Stare Into Death..." and "Dissolved Orders"
Do more Ulcerate, the lyric content is really rich in philosophy, rethoric, critic, and i know you guys will love it

Phenomenal band.
My personal favorite from them is the Lifeless Advance, but I'm also still exploring their discography so that might change.

for sure, a bit more dissonant

Yeesh. A lot of passive aggressive behavior at the beginning of this video. Cringe.
Playing fast does not mean you're the best drummer ever. There are more aspects to drumming other than speed.
Exactly right...rhythm,groove,playing in a pocket with a good bassist, how do you play in a pocket at 400bpm
Speed is not what makes Jamie a good drummer.
It's clear you didn't listen to the drumming then
Watch his drumcams / drum tracking and you'll realize this isn't just about speed.
