The unmistakeable sound of ULCERATE finds its emotional apex on 6th album “Stare Into Death and Be Still”, as the band emerge from the claustrophobia and dissonance of their recent past to present a next-level exploration of melody, harmony and power.
The band’s signature ultra-atmospheric blend of highest order unorthodox Death Metal with the texture of futurist Black Metal is here pared-down with the consummate hand of experience, giving stunning credence to the riff, the song and the meaning.
Embracing production clarity, ULCERATE use these songs to fully showcase their otherworldly musicianship: a vocal performance from Paul Kelland of unadulterated authority, Michael Hoggard’s guitar and Jamie Saint Merat’s percussion working in tandem with startling skill and originality, simultaneously skewed and heart-rending, often addictively succinct and revelling in strident motifs that hook, haunt and transform the listener with their expressive honesty.
Thematically the album explores the concept of “death reverence” - drawing on recent personal experience to confront the truism that death and tragedy aren't always sudden or violent, that people are often passive observers trapped “in the silent horror of observing death calmly and cleanly”.
“Stare Into Death and Be Still” is the deepest, purest and most meticulous form of ULCERATE: a soul-searching conflagration of atypical melodicism, immaculate virtuosic dexterity and sublimated psychological upheaval. A breathtaking new beginning for one of the most uniquely talented bands in extreme music. - Видеоклипы
These NVIDIA demos are getting weirder every year
RTX demo lmao
topkek
Lol
Rotting Christ greets you ;)
Or the Loreal ones are getting worse XD
The main riff in this song is beyond this world.
I’m curious - how do you determine the “main riff?” And in your opinion where is it?
@@shanerand for me the two main riffs are either the first riff that rides along double kick drums. Or the part that follows the first clean break, though that's more of a peak.
Shane Rand right haha

The whole thing is really. I love all their albums, but with the epic video and hearing the track on its own, it's another level. Makes me proud to be kiwi for once
Some years ago I interviewed J.S. Merat and asked him why they don't make videos. He told me that: "Video work for me has to be handled with utmost care, and I've yet to really come across anyone that could achieve a result we'd be
happy with, given that we don't have an enormous budget." Today I understood what he meant. BRILLIANT.
Reminds me of what Tool does for their music videos. Pure art and production put into their visual work.
Was excited to hear they chose Dehn Sora for their video. What a great fit.
The homie IS a genius 🔥
That ONE is called Vincent Petitjean
My Little Pony clip would've worked too, but scarier.
The biggest danger of listening to Ulcerate is that it makes other metal seem hollow and uninspiring to listen to. They are simply in a league of their own.
Simply THRUTH.!!!!....Maybe AD NAUSEAM are slightly Close...but Still DAMN even immolation for me the greatest death metal band or even Deathspell omega don't impact and Convey such deep sound!!...the BEST band!!!
New Gorguts is the only thing close imo
Triptykon.
That's the thing, it doesn't make it seem, it is hollow.
ulcerate and gorguts both are in the same league
I can't believe how good this sounds. This amount of dissonance is hard to arrange in a way that sounds melodic and the harmonies sound coherent and embracing. Non musicians have no idea how hard this is in music composition to accomplish.
It's dissonant but not harsh at all to listen.
word
The atmosphere this band creates is mindblowing. 🖤

:
I’m pretty sure the riff at 4:36 has up to three layers of guitar overdub at once
Never heard of this band and came across the name on Reddit with the description of "Progressive Dissonant Post-Death" and was intrigued. This was a fucking masterpiece.
IMO this was and still is the bar for bands to reach in the 2020s. Not often does a band set a bar anymore.
Timeless...
LYRICS :
Stare down on the defeated
Declare the puritan
Command by doctrine
Feed off the backs of the dismal
Obey contempt
Give in as confines on this loathing fray
Ripped apart
And the aversion will vanish
To be unmasked
Disappear
For any hope
At redemption
Beset by shame
The scourge left trailing the parasitic
Entire orders eaten away from the inside
Wrung dry and spat out
They would turn in disgust
If there were any will
To look back on
Cede to the unyielding
Fed by repulsion granted in shame
Bring an end to the reign…
Thank you
You left out the best part:
No halting the flood's advance
Let it wash over
No halting the flood's advance
See it through to the end
Bestia....
This is like the new age of death metal, intriguing and exciting. earned a fan here
I have *never* heard a band that can make me feel genuine despair.
Something about the riffs hits different
🔥💀
This sound is the future of metal music.
7 releases in and they're still pushing the envelope.

This is poetry
Obviously!
ive just recently started listening to this band, absolutely killer music that actually feels like they know what theyre doing, i can see what people mean by this ruining other metal for them, bands like this, gorguts and vitriol give me hope for the future of the genre, they just get it, its not about how fast or loud or complicated it is to play, its about trying to convey and express difficult emotions in a way that is still musical and can be enjoyed again and again!
Fr, most metal is trash
This entire album is a masterpiece!
The 38 people who disliked this listen to Periphery.
LOL
Blessed be thy drummer
This is beyond metal. I am so happy that in a world musical clowns (especially in metal) there's still someone doing real shit.
Ulcerate are tragically underated in my opinion.
I cried listening to this song; it is PURE emotion.
And it made me believe that we are facing a new horizon with Ulcerate.
Dam bro... 🤗
ulcerate really is beautiful music.
@Sometimes Lapse
AGREED
THERE IS NO HORIZON
The first ever Ulcerate official music video? This feels like being part of a momentous occasion.
I suppose it is hard to have anything that can visually represent the music of Ulcerate, but this does it very well. The struggle of humans, their decay, a bleak world and of course the theme of this album, facing one's own death is represented here very well visually. The visual effects are also top notch, very well done.
I don't think I have to comment on the music, it's stellar and I've already given my thoughts on the album as a whole. I'm very happy to see this band grow when I thought they had already reached their peak.
I’ve been really glad to see other people appreciating this album. I was worried people would hate on it for being “weaker” or “softer” (which it’s neither) than past projects but I actually think the hint of added breathability was perfect. This album is haunting and i love it
💯
chirbin0nidhogg623 “Staring...” is bleaker yet stronger than the last 2.
Start to finish.
Thank you talking lime, very cool.
Agree with the thoughts you've expressed. This album is undoubtedly Ulcerate's greatest and most mature work to date, the scope of it all is just beyond the horizon. It's their most subtle, most emotional and most humane work, after all. Today I've revisited "Shrines of Paralysis" as well and I could see that it already foreshadowed the sound that we are honored to witness here; "Shrines.." is a lot more brutal and punchy and exhausting to listen to, though (which isn't a failure, by no means). It opened a crack, a rift into which a mixture of soul dust and velvet, which "Stare..." is, has been able to sink through and fill its empty veins with this quicksilver-colored substance. Now, I won't lie that I'm not a bit afraid when it comes to the follow-up to this magnificence... Although, as lime has noticed, we have already thought of Ulcerate reaching their peak and they have proved that they're able to surpass it. Maybe their peak isn't one, but various; and their music a constant evolution, in a perpetual state of flux. When I see the natural progression and development of a band, I'm able to appreciate their art even more. I think Ulcerate is bound to start really transgressing their death metal roots very soon and create, I don't know, some Pink Floyd-ish textures... and the NZ trio will be able to accomplish it without watering down the sound. Nonetheless, the very foundation of their sound will always be present in their music.
Even their musical videos are incredibly artistic. Can you imagine how only a small fraction of people can withstand this absolute art, let alone people who actually witnessed it? Most detailed subtleties, powerful, loaded with sound and emotion, peak creativity. I cannot find a single flaw in this.
WELL PUT!!!!
THE most immersive death metal experience, EVER.
Bewteen their Masterpiece's -EIF,TDOA or STARE...too hard to choose...Still for me their most Emotional and cathartic piece of extreme music IS Their S\T-the destroyers of all
easily the best metal album in years
these guys invented a new emotion
That's right!
TEEEEE AAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMOOOOOOO ULCERATEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Guitar riffs at 4:36 are the best thing I've listened in many many years. I can't get it out of my head. I had to learn how to play it because it was driving me crazy. Hopefully I'll upload a cover of that part soon.
Please do, I would love to see that!!!
@@abysswalker6610 ruclips.net/video/1jC7SmIkm-c/видео.html here you go. Definitely not how Michael Hoggard plays it, but it's my best shot lol.
2:13 always gets me. Also the build up from 4:16 onwards. Whole album is just perfect chaos.
My favorite moment of the album is in visceral ends at 3:56 (here’s a link to visceral ends : ruclips.net/video/cZfO3ybSeeE/видео.html )
This is how you deliver death metal music A.D. 2020. Genius album.
Best drum album of 2020💯
Probably the most important extreme metal band in the world right now. Spectacular video too.
This is the kind of music that I want to be born to, procreate to, and expire to.
It's brutal but at the same time it's so beautiful
The atmosphere, the melodies, incredible. I love it.
I'm truly grateful that my journey into metal music brought me to this point. For me, this song makes me feel soul-crushing depression and euphoric catharsis at the same time. No other song has given me that combination of emotions in such a vivid way.
One of the best things to ever come out of New Zealand.
I’ve listened to Death Metal for years and have yet to hear a band do what Ulcerated does.
colored sands & pleiades dust
Each song has become a fucking dark tower novel by themselves alone!!! Incredible density like fucking insane amounts of dedication to achieve this... they have reached such insane musical brilliance that its like how an AI who was self aware began by learning from humans then it learning on its own and quickly passing man by in intelligence, is no longer understood by our dated design lol
soundtrack to the end
This guitar guy can play anything goes in his head, im 100% sure.
This music is surreal. I listen to this album every day
Im speechless
Best music coming out of New Zealand, period.
It's easy to play fast and tremelo this takes it beyond that more subtle and more heavy. Like their riffs are viscous
Absolutely stunning, love it
Yes, Yes, YES!
Breathtaking
Musical rebirth.
Excellent video. Instant chills
It's a masterpiece.
Great combination of music and video.
For all lovers of this kind of graphics highly recommend our Polish painter Zdzisław Beksiński.
U will not be disappointed:)
BTW at the end of this clip, pictures reminds me the cover art of Polish band named Vader, album "De Profundis"
This record is absolutely inspiring on a whole other level, honestly their best masterpiece yet. I didn't think "everything is fire" would be rivaled , I was dead wrong. I love the atmosphere and the emotion this record pulls out of myself. I really enjoy the Musical Textures, Motifs, melodies and counterpoints created within the Guitar Riffing, Drums, Bass and Stellar vocal performance!! Just wow you guys!!! Stunning!
That monster of a riff that comes after the clean break is nothing short of perfection. Dissonant and complex harmonies beautifully intertwined into what has to be one of my favorite riffs ever written. Truly a masterpiece and a great source of inspiration for my personal musical endeavors. Thank you Ulcerate :D
Same. I've been trying to cover it but it's tough for me
This is truly exceptional.
Gorgeous visuals!
This is pure art.

what an innovative band they never cease to amaze me with the quality of music they make there style is so unique I have been a diehard fan since the first release
Masterpiece!
The new Ulcerate album has been steadily working its way to the top of my "Best of 2020" list, and this video easily stands alongside the music as a work of art. The combination is so absorbing that it seemed like only a couple of minutes had passed, not eight.
Oh gawd yes, where has this been all my life.
Vincent is always perfect in all his works
Best Christmas song ever
It's beautiful
Yap, this one took the golden medal. This song + this video = been waiting for something like this for almost 30 years:) Cant wait to see the next one ( Inversion, I hope ) \m/
I'm utterly impressed. One of the best things to ever come out from extreme Metal
This album is a masterpiece. I'll receive the LP tomorrow!
Amazing video, amazing album, amazing band. Perfection 🤘🏻🔥🖤
I received my copy of the masterpiece "Stare Into Death And Be Still" two weeks ago and there is no release this year (so far) which comes even close for me. Absolut perfect!
this music video gives me chills every. single. time.
my fav song on the album, what an amazing video as well. thanks ulcerate for doing what you do, thanks mike hoggard for writing the coolest guitar riffs .....ive been listening to metal for almost 30 years now and his riffs and ulcerate as a whole are the only things really keeping me paying attention to the genre anymore .
Thanks Dehn Sora for the video!
incredible
10/10 best album this year.
FACT
This is some heavy stuff, visibly and audibly
Seriously, somebody gotta tab this.
YES!!!
This video really captures the music, awesome! The maker draws inspiration from Westworld, Prometheus (Alien movie) and the old Tool video's. Very cool!
I like that they somehow also visualized their bandname in the sort-of ulcers that spring forth from the mannequins. This will prolly end up being one of the AOTY of this year for me.
