The unmistakeable sound of ULCERATE finds its emotional apex on 6th album “Stare Into Death and Be Still”, as the band emerge from the claustrophobia and dissonance of their recent past to present a next-level exploration of melody, harmony and power.
The band’s signature ultra-atmospheric blend of highest order unorthodox Death Metal with the texture of futurist Black Metal is here pared-down with the consummate hand of experience, giving stunning credence to the riff, the song and the meaning.
Embracing production clarity, ULCERATE use these songs to fully showcase their otherworldly musicianship: a vocal performance from Paul Kelland of unadulterated authority, Michael Hoggard’s guitar and Jamie Saint Merat’s percussion working in tandem with startling skill and originality, simultaneously skewed and heart-rending, often addictively succinct and revelling in strident motifs that hook, haunt and transform the listener with their expressive honesty.
Thematically the album explores the concept of “death reverence” - drawing on recent personal experience to confront the truism that death and tragedy aren't always sudden or violent, that people are often passive observers trapped “in the silent horror of observing death calmly and cleanly”.
“Stare Into Death and Be Still” is the deepest, purest and most meticulous form of ULCERATE: a soul-searching conflagration of atypical melodicism, immaculate virtuosic dexterity and sublimated psychological upheaval. A breathtaking new beginning for one of the most uniquely talented bands in extreme music. Видеоклипы
Ulcerate should not be compared with other bands. They always compete with themselves.
Every single thing in this planet can be compared, we are humans. I swear every psycho on RUclips wants to cement their own particular opinion on everything like a fascist. It even shows a lot of intelligence to analyze things and find patterns that connect one thing to other, even if they seem far from each other. Why do you want people to stop using their knowledge?
@@soullessSiIence chill
@Ely Gallego I'll add Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord and Neurosis
I NEED to make a final stand against impossible odds with this song
The timing for this couldn't be more perfect. The world is going to shit. This is the perfect apocalyptic theme.
Well said absolutely perfect soundtrack to the end of the world!
The world has been shit and headed towards it's downward spiral! Hail Death!
Calm down edgelords
Look up the etymology of apocalypse. You'll be surprised.
@@AbigorRealm69 Well, look at it this way: if we were at a true extinction event, instead of freaking out, some people would like to go out with something that made them happy, like this music for example, which after all fits with the whole world ending scenario. It's not being edgy, it's just, when you know you're fucked, what else can you do other than staring into death and being still, am I right? :p Might as well just listen to some nice tunes while you're at it.
I am loving this morose, melodic side of Ulcerate. For being predecessors of such an innovative sound, they still manage to keep every album fresh.
This will be AOTY
These guys are simply untouchable
I love how it's really technical, but most of all very musical. Extreme music with emotions. Jamie St-Merat is a drum god.
And what a relief to hear Jamie not sounding like drum machine (cough Shrines of paralysis cough).
I also like how Michael has incorporated new/different effects in his pedal chain for the clean, sullen melodic parts. It really adds a whole a new color to their ever evolving unique aural palette.
@@Berevezje For me the production on that album was ok, but I prefered it on Vermis
@@chaz_noize Yes, on this one, I feel they are getting closer to Nero Di Marte.
@@gespegdrummer2771 any thoughts on Immoto? A while back I ordered the cd not having heard a single song from them. Had only seen the name mentioned in passing so i decided to buy it while ordering stuff i was actually familiar with. I found it to be pretty decent.
How Ulcerate somehow manage to keep releasing stuff of this high quality, I’ll never know, but I’m not complaining
Another Ulcerate single. My day has been made.
1 day away from suicide
This album seems to focus more on atmosphere, the unusual riffs are given a lot more breathing space. Can’t wait for the album to drop
Both brutal and digestible, beautiful and scary, so much richness in contrasts.
That "Unsolved Mysteries" vibe in the clean parts is truely majestic.
Shrines of paralysis was a masterpiece and this sounds like it will be better.
This will be the best album of 2020.
Unusually catchy for the band's standards. Great track
That's the thing with those two singles. I can actually understand the patterns. And i am loving it
This is actually breathtaking. So oppressive. Sublime. I'm actually running out of adjectives to describe how good Ulcerate is
4:36
My god that riff
I've been trying to play it, still haven't figured it out
Ulcerate plays dissonant death metal with art! Everything about this band is amazing, definitely will score 10/10
I'm pretty ignorant of what music theory is but what does it mean (in music) that something is dissonant? Cheers!
@@thery8 Taken from wikipedia - pretty great exaplanation, so I'll quote it: "In music, consonance and dissonance are categorizations of simultaneous or successive sounds. Consonance is associated with sweetness, pleasantness, and acceptability; dissonance is associated with harshness, unpleasantness, or unacceptability."
@@DrMorbid Hmm doesnt feel right to me 🤔
dissonance isn't really explained correctly.. no offense.
ok so the previously stated quote is true to an extent, but is leaving out major points-
dissonance in music as it's played, think of this example; the guitar tracking is playing, with an amalgamation of that tracking except the twin sound has a ugly factor to it.
so think of a pretty sound, with an ugly version of that same sound playing along with it. that's one way to see it.
I hate to be a jackass but in music, when you go dissonant it becomes fully consonant music. So it is not dissonant in a displeasing way. For dissonance to be effective you have to clash a dissonant chord between two consonant (major or minor) ones. So, no real dissonance here. It's very coherent and interesting sounding for the ear
The first two tracks have not disappointed, very strong!!!
this quarantine won't be so bad if ulcerate keep releasing banger after banger
Very atmospheric. Definitely giving each instrument room to breathe here, and it's working wonderfully. Masterful riffs as always. We'll done.
This is actually beyond stellar. The intro caught me pleasantly off guard a little...
As a guitar player I love this more melodic, effect laden approach Mike has taken. It really adds a bunch of new colors to the band's ever evolving unique aural palette.
The expansive compositional depth within these latest two singles have been nothing but spectacular and awe-inspiring to say the least. This album seems like it will be one of best this year.
Blissfully destructive in the best ways possible, hell yes.
This band are the pinnacle of death metal!
Digging the amount of melodic overtones they are incorporating in these new songs. This is incredible. Could be an AOTY contender.
Perfect album for a horrible time for all of us.
horrible for humanity but great time for earth
@@djecold3551 but Ulcerate are part of humanity. Well, i think so
Oh, you have to stay at home, boo hoo.
It will pass, economy will recover, and people will continue be people until the planet is one big dystopian concrete stinking pile of shit with artificial atmosphere of some kind... Anyhow, love the track, looking forward to some tour dates, hopefully in fall/winter...
@@MrWil9 yea cuz the only issue we're going through is having to stay home. dummy
I love how this band have become so prog and avantgarde.
I have goosebumps
This is mastery. Suppose it will be album of the year.
Sure candidate for the album of the year. Just amazing.
The depth of their best songs, doesn't seem humanly possible. And its only a 3 man band
the most soothing Ulcerate has ever been
Depressingly beautiful.
True aural devastation 😢🖤
Damn! Jaw dropped. You know why
Nah Not my thing after 8:15. Best Part 0:00-8:15
Amazing!
Beautiful
Masterpiece for sure.
I love this.... thank you so much for making it!
Thank you for everything
Gorgeous, can't wait for the album !
Incredible what a great moment
Breathtaking. Ulcerate on Debemur Morti is an awesome fact! Can we dream about a drum playthrough video? The drums are insane, in the beginning as well.
+ guitar playthrough
Based on previous years either Jamie and/or Sickdrummer will most likely release videos on their respective channels near the release date of the album.
@@norlock that would be beyond sick. There are no play-thru's for guitar and only a small batch of covers.
This brings me great pleasure.
Perfection! So glad they‘re back.
one more masterpiece from this band, so impressive!
Love this new melodic style
Masterpiece
Great sound.
Incredible
Ok so this is maybe my favorite song from them?!? Thank you Ulcerate I needed this
Another monstrous single! This is shaping up to be their best record yet!
Excellent track
I can already picture myself cranking this while driving home on a cool spring/summer night. Absolutely impressive band.
Give shivers. Perfect . Perfect. 🔥🔥
thank you!
Magnificent!!! love Ulcerate so much! lml lml
Ulcerate never disappoints
Again this will be album of the year
Beautiful! Its making my quarantine more enjoyable
Ulcerate's music and lyrics are very fitting for these formidable times to which humanity currently has to endure.
It´s not only smoother, the musical form is clearer, not a maze like in previous works. Very well written song. Amazing guitar work.
Ulcerate is pure love! 🖤
Daje diocane
No words 💎
This album is going to be perfection.
It's taken everything from the last three albums and melded it into what might be their peak performance of all time.
I am loving though, how this is closest to Destroyers Of All.
This is excellent
Uncanny how the latest Ulcerate has coincided with the world in the grip of a contagion. The title alone mirrors the malign nature of a populace beset by plague. I am in love with the simultaneously woeful, atmospheric and savagely convoluted music this sonic collective create. I kneel in adoration and awe at the altar of Ulcerate
Awesome track
Dem palm mutes.
God damn amazing
Monumental !! Des bêtes de technique !
what a track...
this is already sounding like album of the year.. in more ways than one, the album title is what the whole world is doing this year.
I like to imaging that Ulcerate is in a rehearsal space creating new music sometimes. This time it's true.
Did you miss the last new track? "Stare Into Death And Be Still".
Holy shit. Thanks, RUclips algorithm for recommending me such a great band!! My ears just came.
"Don't worry, be happy" of 2020
some play metal, You create absolute works....Album of the Year before official premiere!
Todo parece indicar que será uno de los mejores albums de este año 🙏

The only part I found boring was when I did not play the song
Same here, 8:15 long and so engaging. By the way, Okeanos is unbelievable, 40 minutes of pure gold, well done and please keep making great music \m/ Best

Majestic! The ashes of tomorrow...

Perfect for playing the new DOOM to
Wow comment section in ulcerate video is poppinn, love u all 🤘😷🤘
🍻🤘🖤🤘🙌🏾
This production is fantastic, as much as I liked Shrines, I felt a lot like there wasn't much dynamic range when the songs went crazy. This however is damn near perfect.
Deliriyorum
I hope this gets released early
4:37 what a riff!!!
All hail JSM !
