I've been struggling to understand how economizers work for a while now, and this is by far the most in-depth explanation i've seen. Thank you so much for your help.
Hey David, I just want to appreciate the knowledge you have imparted to me. You are an excellent expert with extensive knowledge and a very good teacher who explains clearly. I now understand the Economizers, Thank you very much:)
Thanks for all the kind comments ya'll, This is my way of paying back/ forward what my Friend and Mentor Jim Schaper (Now Retired) did for me when he selflessly shared his vast knowledge and experience with me .. Special Thanks to "Jedi Jim"
David, thank you kindly for the precise explanation of these economizer sequences. It’s the best explanation I’ve ever seen and it is much appreciated!
24 year tech. Consider myself a pretty good tech. However economizer has always kicked my ask. I always figure it out. Within 15 minutes I figured out an obsolete part. Thank you very much you are simple and very helpful.
When I was in the apprenticeship program, they never went over how that works. I was always so dam confused on how to troubleshoot that module. Now I finally know, thanks !
I been looking for a good tech to explain more better on economizer and you sir are number 1 when explaining. I now have a better understanding because of how you explained it. Thank you🙏
great video . I don't work on rooftops a lot . today i worked on a carrier 2 stage RTU with a carrier economizer control . 2nd stage was not coming on . this video explains what happened and why it did. i wish I could keep this videos in my learning records LOl. this is gold . thanks
I’ve not had a bad economizer to troubleshoot; but, now I’m confident I can efficiently service one if a problem arises. Great overal understanding and traps for new players!
This video is amazing and so helpful. I came back to it every time I have to look at one of these controllers. Thank you for taking the time to make this video and share your knowledge!
Awesome video. Not much economizers down here in Florida so they can be a little more time consuming to figure out. Now I have a better understanding of them, thanks!
@@davidharty3653 im working on putting in a honeywell jade w7220a1000 in a york unit. i have temp and enthalpy sensors, honeywell sells them a a kit. maybe we can go over how to convert from York's economizer board set up to w7220a1000. just a small 5 ton york, the temps are still well about 53* so no huge emergency.
Great video and detailed explanation. Much easier to follow than the OEM explains. When economies fails, most just pull the connector and install the jumper to eliminate the economist because the customers don't want to pay for these expensive option repairs especially when the anted of return is usually less than the expense. Still think you missed your calling, should ,vet been a teacher. Your ability to communicate is excellent.
Hey David, thanks a lot for the video! Definitely not something you have to do but I am glad you put it up here. I am an apprentice myself and have worked with a few Mechanics now that would sometimes take the Y2 terminal off and tape it or put a marrett on it. I've spent a little bit of time playing with economizers to try and understand them and found that you did need the Y2 terminal. I didn't know however that the module actually communicates with Y2 and can still economize and use a compressor. So far I have been setting up a Time Delay on make with the unit to energize Y2 after Y1 has been energized for a few minutes. This might sound like a ridiculous step to take but it was all I knew haha. Anyways, thanks again for the video it was very helpful!
Since parts are becoming less available for these you might consider a video on how to convert to Jade. The only functional difference is that you need to have the Jade module powered all the time. Not just on a live G signal.
Awesome video, thanks for sharing. What if your unit control board only has a y1 terminal and would you bring the y2 wire form tstat directly to your economizer?
Excellent video. I'm a sparky just getting into this stuff. And this helps a lot. Any insights on jade controllers? As a layman they seem to run similar to this but I camt figure out how to modulate the economizer enough to prevent positive pressure in this store.
Could you explain the operation of the w7212 Logic when co2 sensors are connected to the aq and aq1 terminals. Does the co2 sensor take over even when free cool is available? Great video! It was very helpful.
Do you have to tell the thermostat that it is a 2-stage, even if it's a 1 stage? Or do you just have to run the Y2 wire as if it did have two stages? Great video. Very informative and thorough.
David, Awesome video. You mentioned at the end that you can test some actuators with the 9 volt battery. Do you know which honeywell acuators are 9Volt or where I can find that out? I have a carrier unit with a W7212 mounted on top of the M7215a actuator. Thanks
Great video! Definitely helps me understand economizer function a lot better. However, I’m more of a nacho cheese Doritos guy. Still, great video though.
also there's a power exhaust installed with no literature. can you recommend a site for the literature. it's a York. I can get model and serial if needed. thank you.
if the cooling call is still unsatisfied even free cooling plus #1 mechanical cooling, how can we set the wire to start the #2 compressor, or this is impossible happen(i mean free cooling + #1 compressor #2 compressor ).

Fantastic , very good and profesional. Thank you sir
DAVID THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST ECONOMIZER TUTORIAL i HAVE EVER SEEN!! THANKS

As a technical that is about to enter the world of commercial coming from 90% residential, I thank you for this very simple yet informative video
WONDERFUL EXPLANATION!!!! Now I feel a little more confident working on these types of units.. Bravo!!
Absolutely the best video I've ever seen on economizer troubleshooting and even describing just how one works. Very nice job!
Excellent video my friend very easy to follow and understand! Cheers!

David Harty Greatly appreciated, your economize videos has helped me a lot. Thank you.
Just have worked in field for 4 months. Learned the concept of Economizer from your excellent videos. Thank you very much.
I’m not an HVAC tech but wow…what great understanding to be able to explain this so well that a non expert understood it.
David, thank you kindly for the precise explanation of these economizer sequences.
It’s the best explanation I’ve ever seen and it is much appreciated!
Thanks dave. Nice diagram. Easier to understand than reading carrier literature.
Best economizer training video out there! Wow!! From your kitchen, no less.

Just found your channel. Excellent information
I have never had anyone simply this in such a way that it actually makes sense.
Thanks, I did it the way I wish someone would've explained it for me 20 years ago !!
The best explanation ever
Thank you for sharing this. It helps me understand how it works.
metal gear , this is why I do these, trying to pay forward all the guys who helped me

We’re neighbors/ I’m in Minneapolis, Minnesota
that s awesome keep in touch and more videos when possible i wanna get very good at economizers !!!
Subscribed! Very well explained.
Really great, thanks.
great video thanks
great video. helped me out today. enthalpy sensor was mounted in unit. mounted outside unit on intake. started to work properly.
Thank you so much. Now I understand. Great video 👍👍👍👍
Thanks a lot sir
Most welcome

Thank you, I appreciate you !!

Dave Hart Thank you!!
2 Words: THANK YOU
Gotta say this is the best video ever. It would be hard NOT to understand
Is the mixed air temp sensor drawn in the right place? other diagrams seem to show it located before the evap coil.
David, Awesome video. You mentioned at the end that you can test some actuators with the 9 volt battery. Do you know which honeywell acuators are 9Volt or where I can find that out? I have a carrier unit with a W7212 mounted on top of the M7215a actuator. Thanks
Timothy Pawlowski M7200 series actuator uses a 2-10v signal for its proportional control
The 2 in 7200 tells you that actuator it's a 2-10v
thanks dave.
Great video brother ..... Can you make a video on converting the W7459 OR W7212 to a Honeywell jade economizer controller
Good Stuff!! Thank You
Glad you liked it!
To test a compressor during spring maintenance can you jump 1 & 2 on the logic board to energize the compressor contactor?
Yes,
Jump 1-2 to test 1st stage compressor
Jump 3-4 to test 2nd stage compressor
So can you by pass it buy jumping 1 and 2? To force cooling?
thanks for this vid
What if you put a jumper between y1 and y2 at the terminal strip? Instead of running a dedicated wire for y2
What about with a standalone Honeywell module? Still need Y2 on a single stage?
Thanks
I used a 1 stage tstat on a unit with 1 compressor and an economizer. Will it bring on the compressor in the summer? Or do I need to change the tstat
Great video! Definitely helps me understand economizer function a lot better. However, I’m more of a nacho cheese Doritos guy. Still, great video though.
