I grew up 13 miles NW of Copano, and my folks had a weekend place just west of the Hwy 35 causeway at Lamar. In September, 1961 we went down to prep the bay house as best we could for Hurricane Carla, which delivered a glancing blow to the area a day or so later. I had turned 7 years old a couple of weeks before. To this day I remember looking west as the sun was going down. It is now over 61 years later and I can truly say I've never seen a redder sunset than the one that was burned into my memory that day. I have since spent untold hours on the decks of my own salt water ladies in those beautiful bays. I no longer live in the area but Copano still holds a special place in my heart. Oh yeah, that song hits home for me big time... ...chokes me up a little whenever I hear it. Thank you Roger. ...and Gig 'em.
