If you're looking for a long range fat tire ebike with a torque sensor I recommend you at least take a look at the Hovsco HovAlpha. Compared to its other mainstream competitors it offers a larger battery, and a torque sensor (most have cadence sensors), and it comes in at a lower price by a few hundred dollars.

Great review! I bought the Aventure.2 and I agree with you that the Hovsco is a killer deal. I love my Aventon with torque sensor. Much better feel than the cadence. Your reviews out-of-the-box are excellent, but what about support and replacement parts? That was on the top of my list when I was looking at bikes. Maybe you could do a video that focuses on company comparisons like number of years in business, component quality, customer support, customer satisfaction, reliability, etc.

Playing devil's advocate...for the Aventure 2 and HOVSCO as I feel Aventon is still far superior.... Don't get me wrong I always love your reviews, but...
- Aventure 2 is $1999, the HOVSCO is listed as $1999, but temporarily is $1699 so the comment at 13:18 of "it's pretty much better and cheeper" then Aventon, I feel, is misguided.
- Both have front suspension
- Both have hydraulic disc brakes
- Both have the same 750 watt motor
- Both have a torque sensor
- Both have throttles that do 20mph, both PAS at 28mph
- Both have fenders, but Aventure 2 comes with back rack already installed
- HOVSCO plastic fenders, Aventure 2 metal fenders
- Aventure is 8 speed gears, HOVSCO is 7 speed gears
- HOVSCO has head and tail light... Aventure 2 has this and integrated tail lights plus turn signals
At the end of the day, buy what's right for you, but for me I feel Aventon is the better bet... I learned the hard way with buying my first ebike because it was adverted as a cheaters solution and, yeah, "cheap" was correct. Ditched it in six months due to total lack of customer service after the bike broke.

i don't disagree with you, at all since ultimely you DO get what you pay for. but sometimes, smaller companies drop their prices to get more customers.
I do like Aventon's more steamlined look but since this is only a hobby bike and not a full time biker, I hope my Hovsco is decent for me.
$500 savings means i can pocket the difference OR buy an additional battery for a quick swap on my longer bike rides. or heck even buy a few random accessories, like the phone mount, side mirror, horn/bell, helmet, extra inner tubes, battery powered inflator, or so much more.
$500 goes a long way.
@@ericolens3- I hope it works out for you. I currently ride the Aventon Level.2 and just passed 1600 miles. The only things I have upgraded are swapping the peddles (I wanted a different colour), adding a suspension seat post and new saddle (total game changer) and I switched the standard tubes to Slime tubes. I use my bike daily to get back and forth to work as well as general exercise and mental health cleaning regularly. I think out the door I paid $1800 and some change, which is FAR better than my first e-bike (Velotric Discover 1) which completely failed on me six months almost to the day and the company absolutely refused to help me.
I do like the Aventure 2, but I am not an off road guy so I went with the Level.2 and seriously couldn’t be happier. It has held up amazingly well and I feel I fully got my moneys worth.
Optional fenders, optional rack, no wired brake/tail light, no turn signals. I'll hang on to my Aventure.2.
I agree, I do like the 20Ah battery. But the Aventon has a great local dealer network, better durallier, better lights, comes with a rack and fenders. Given all of the this, I think the Aventon is a better value.

Great reviewer. I purchased a Sunnybike stationary exercise bike based on your review and I couldn't be happier. I wasn't into ebikes before but after trying out the rad rover 6 plus I'm now going to purchase one. I liked your review on the troxus explorer and I was also interested in the velotric nomad one. After thinking it over I decided I would go with a torque sensor bike. Adventon adventure 2 was at the top of my list. After watching this video, not anymore.

I crossed a low tide sand bar off of bar harbor maine with it. the only guy with a bike among several hundred people. ..breezed right through. Hey man, love your reviews. You're hand's down one of my favorite eBike reviewers, and I look forward to each review you do. - I do have a bit of point to make about your opinion on the HOVSCO. The Aventeon Aventure.2 is more money most of the time, but they too go on sale. Also, according to your own tests, the Aventon was almost 2 seconds faster from 0-20 than you clocked on the HOVSCO. Additionally, I've personally spoken with Aventon about spares and replacement parts and they stock them all, making it easier to cruise without worrying that a broken planetary or SUS battery will put your bike up for weeks... I'm not saying the HOVSCO isn't awesome, or that one is better than the other (I don't have a dog in that fight) but Aventon has a solid rep in the 26" Fattie space for a reason. Just my 2c worth. Keep up the AWESOME Reviews.
I'm waiting until March or April next year to purchase another E-bike but this one will be a strong contender when the time comes! I'm also interested in budget cargo bikes, I have been eyeing the Aventon Abound. I get around solely by E-bike now and love it!

Hey man! Great reviews! Im not nit picking. And i really cant tell if you are or not. But i think you want to “lean back” when your riding on loose sand. Dont like actually just move your shoulders back and sit up straiter. But you want to shift the weight to the back tire. keeping your weight off the front tire will help reduce it slipping out from under you when steering also. Like hang your butt over the back tire and see how it goes.

Love the paint, big battery, and hill climbing ability. Acceleration is a bit sluggish for me, and not only is it in the same range as a Rad Rover, it's slower than an Aventon Aventure's 7.65 second time. Design is nice, and while torque sensors are preferred for many situations, I've never had a cadence sensor that limits speed. That's usually a function of the controller PAS level programming. The throttle is a pretty unique design and I like it, despite being on the wrong side.
About the whole Aventon thing: an Aventon does have some advantages, however I have to admit this is a better value. In the past, many Aventon owners I encountered were pretty stuck-up, but that seems to have changed. I did have a funny experience last year involving a couple of guys on Aventons last year though. They weren't even going the same direction, but when they saw me, they decided to prove their superiority to my lowly RadMini, and literally smirked as they passed. The thing is, we were headed into the longest climb on the route, and they just didn't have the power to stay ahead despite standing on the pedals as I passed them effortlessly. Attitude adjustment complete! Please note that this is not a reflection of the company... just bike riders in general who think a higher price tag makes them better.

Yes if you're a lazy rider, don't get the torque sensor ebike.
@@donnerparty1815 For some people, yes. But I'm a former marathoner and have led tours though multiple countries, and I don't think I fit that profile. There's also a world of difference between a cheap on/off cadence sensor that merely acts like a cruse control, and a good cadence sensor that provides limited dynamic assist. I've used all three, and while I hate the cheap cadence and like torque sensors, a good cadence sensor setup that is current based gives me a more consistent workout. It's programmed with 10 pedal assist levels, but I usually keep it around 180 watts or less because I like sharing the work. If I don't want to pedal, I can just use the throttle which will give me up to 3,000 watts for emergencies. I have to add that there are torque sensor that don't work very well, and I've ridden some from Trek that are non-linear and unnatural feeling.

I’m also 6’5” with 34” inseam, but I’m 275lbs. Between this and the mokwheel basalt st, which do you feel has a more comfortable riding position? Raw torque? Decided I want a torque sensor and need a torquey motor to get my heavy ass up hills, so I think I’m choosing between these two unless you have a suggestion for someone our size I’m not considering? Id like to see how it stacks up against its subdivision brand TST that recently came out . They have a similar looking bike but price it at $1200.The battery is only 15 ah though (but replacement batteries are only $200?!). Im afraid to buy it because there is such sparse info out there on it.

Best comparison review of cadence sensor and torque sensor I have seen: cadence sensor is disappointing and torque sensor ebike is what it is all about.
It a 26" version of the Ocelot Pro by Magicycle's 20" bike which I have. Looks good. I'll stay with my 20" bike, but this one looks nice.

Just ordered my HovAlpha using your discount code. I'll provide some feedback once I have a few miles on the bike.
The HOVSCO HovAlpha has turned out to be a really fun well-built bike. For most of my riding I’ve had the peddle assist (PAS) set to one. With PAS set to one and using the top three gears I was able to get up most inclines with little extra effort. We have a half mile long 9% grade leading up to our house and this is only area where I kick up the PAS up to 5 and down shift. I could likely make it with a lower PAS setting, but the climb is on the return trip home. The fat tires and front shocks make is a comfortable bike to ride. Overall, the build quality, paint, mechanicals (gears, brakes etc.) are at or above what I would expect at this price point. My wife’s bike has a cadence sensor where the HovAlpha has a torque sensor. The torque sensor seems to have a more natural peddle “feel”.
Minor gripes are the rear light and the seat on long rides. The rear light runs off its own batteries and has to be turned on and off with a switch on the light itself. Another issue with the rear light is that it’s mounted on the seat post and it is blocked if you have anything on the rear rack. The seat isn’t bad, but I think I’m going to upgrade to something like a Cloud 9.
Quick update: After less than 50 miles the bike refused to turn on. I worked with Hovsco support to try and troubleshoot the issue with no luck. While it was disappointing to return the bike, Hovsco support arranged a relatively quick exchange for a new bike. Because I’m on the east coast and Hovsco is in California, it was around a two-week turnaround time from shipping the bike back and receiving a new bike. Hovsco covered all the shipping charges, but I had to repack the bike in the original shipping box.

TailHappy, I was thinking of changing the front chainring to allow me to pedal at faster speeds. Do you know how large a chainring I can put on this and if I have to change anything else?
the new wired freedom has a 56T which allows for pedaling up to 40 MPH which may be a bit excessive for the hovalpha, so maybe go a big smaller than 56T. If you only go up a small # of teeth you can probably get by with your current chain, but you may need a longer chain, or simply add a few links to your chain.
@@TailHappyTV Thanks! I noticed on the HoveAlpha, the frame only allows so big a chainring size so I gotta be careful. I love my hoveaplha. Had to raise the bars and lengthen a hydraulic cable but that is the bane of tall folks like us, LOL.
My ebike really bridges the gap for us military vets in between full walking and needing a wheelchair thing. It is a beast offroad.
I'm am thinking of looking for something more 'plush' though for heavy and tall riding on street. I'd like to find something that pedals in a way that I do not look like or feel like one of the circus clowns and yet when I come to a rest, I can actually still sit on the seat and feet will sit on the ground still. Is there such a beast?
What do you think the best e-bike for someone 6 foot four 260 pounds would be. Looking for a bike thats 2,000 dollars including taxes and everything. There’s way too many bikes to choose from now my brother is telling me to get an aventon level 2 but it does kinda seem heavy and just wondering if something’s better for the price that gets good range and has power and comfortable to ride not something you have to lean way over to ride. Could you please see if you can review foldable e-bikes? You can easily put most of them in the trunk. Drive to the area you want to visit. Good for when you’re going on a vacation and want to take the bike with you.

This ebike seems to have the best balance of price and features for a road touring bike. The torques sensor is GREAT if you want a bike for exercise.
So could you use just throttle if it were in class 3 mode up until 28?
@@Bengafriends In some cases yes. I a few, you have to help the bike out by peddling in the highest gear. Many bikes are geared such that if you use the throttle at max and achieve 28+ mph, you can't pedal fast enough to keep up with the motor.

You gotta get your hands on the new 52v aniioki ebike. Its a 1000w motor but peaks around 1500w, can go 35mph and has a 3200wh battery. You could attempt part 2 of the 100 mile bike ride i reckon that's the only one that could do it.

Step through will be way easier to get on and off, it’s my preferred, even though the reach is usually a little little bit shorter, but I just puts you in a more upright position

How would this bike fit a large rider I'm 6'3" 290lbs
I'm 6'3" ~240 and have no issue riding this bike, I don't think a few extra pounds will make a difference.
Looks like a great bike. Can tell its a very good motor. Display is ok if it has a power bar, but looks dim. You could not be more wrong about "exercise value" of torque sensor, although it does look like a good one that gives you a lot of fine control over speed hands free. You are "special" for wanting super low exercise, but your payoff is hands free speed control. 9 cadence PAS levels gives you exercise by letting you pedal hard without going too fast. Changing PAS levels is pretty darn easy compared to mechanical gears. If you only pedal during hills, you can overamp your controller but not burn out anything by keeping the speed moderate on hills. Pedaling hard saves battery while staying speed appropriate. You should test hill climbing, especially busy california incline, with that torque sensor pedaling. Would show the weakness of it. Low PAS is too hard to get up, high PAS means slow pedaling to keep control. Very hard to fine tune a high enough exercise level to safe speed ratio.

It's $2000 now. Plus the battery is not UL certified. Wouldn't feel comfortable. Rather get the Aventon Aventure 2. It's $200 cheaper now, the battery is UL certified and they are now sold in bike stores. No user assembly required.

This bike is same as Aventon other than battery and cost the same. I have Level 2 and get MORE range than Aventon claims. I also have Specialized Turbo Como IGH 5.0. I seem to get better range on the Level 2. So what a company states can be more or less with same power. The range on this is probably more important. Should be side by side comparison with Aventon ebikes.

you dont have to use the pedals, it can operate throttle button only.
but due to legal reasons in USA, Canada, UK, EU, and at that point its just standard for the manufacturers to all make it that way.
so yeah, throttle only gets you only up to 20mph or 25kmh (15mph) Europe. and with pedals its up to the higher speeds.
this is basically cuz bikes occupy the same spaces as pedestrians. so if a bicycle wants the same legal protections as a semi-pedestian mode of travel it legally cant have that much speed.
i mean bikes are a quasi pedestrian mode of travel, they can go on sidewalks and walk paths in parks. as such it would be negligent for any governing body to allow them to have crudely high speeds. thats what GAS powered bikes are for.
i mean... i guess if the e bike was pedal only and had higher speeds, but thats an e motorcycle at that point or a dirt bike which falls under a differernt legal category.
now the DMV, license plate fees, registration, the need for a certification to operate. illegal for kids under 15 operate and other legal realms come into the conversation.
keep looking on the internet, i hope you find THAT category of e motor bike. but at that point, its not a bicycle any more but a moped, dirt bike, e motorcycle, and what not.
