Instead of reflecting on how much it sucked and how wrong it was and to break the cycle- they don't and they do it to their boots, then their boots get the same beating handed down through generations.
Good for his service but that train of thinking has made life hell for lower enlisted for the sake of making life hell.

On thing people do not talk about is that a big part of the Dust Bowl was that the destruction of the beaver population led to the loss of wetlands and large scale loss of alluvial plains. This led to large scale desertification and thus the dust bowl. One of many factors, but the loss of beavers and their management of the river and streams of the greater Mississippi and Ohio river systems.

Loving this series of long form documentaries!
And I’d love to see a video on Colonel Sir Ronald Thomas Stewart Macpherson aka the Kilted Killer!
In WW2 he ran around behind enemy lines in occupied France in full Highland battle dress blowing up bridges and ambushing armoured columns. But better yet he pulled off one of the greatest deceptions during the war managing to bluff a German Major General into surrendering 23,000 German soldiers. He would go on to lead the partisans in Itali to disrupt the German infrastructure and defences.

I didn't realize this wasn't well known because my 2nd grade teacher taught us about this. We actually saw the film, it's been many years but I remember it was about 20 or 30 min. long, and she showed it to us as what protecting the environment meant concerning wild animals. And I mean the actual film, streaming and dvds didn't exist, and I don't think my school wanted to purchase vcrs yet because they already had several actual movie projectors, the kind that used actual film reels, that the teachers would check out from storage as needed. I know my school had access to some film library so the school didn't need to maintain the films shown to us kids and the teachers would check out materials, keep it for a week or two, and then return them. So I remember watching this documentary about the gov. officials making the boxes, testing them, putting the beavers in, and dropping them out into the wilderness. I also remember seeing a beaver falling from a great height, (yes that was caught too) and my teacher saying that the beaver was surely fine, because the whole idea of flying in beavers and parachuting them into new homes was successful. She probably didn't was 2nd grade kids getting worried about the animals.

You should do a video on the 34th Infantry Division. They were the first American soldiers to reach the UK had the second most amount of days in combat of any unit in all of WW2 fighting in the North Africa and Italy campaigns. 80% of the original 1st Army Ranger Battalion that was stood up in Northern Ireland in 1942 was recruited from the 34th. The men of the 34th unofficially called themselves “The Hard Luck Division” because they were always in combat but never in the news. Their real nickname was given to them by the Germans who fought against them, they’d call them either the Red Devils or the Red Bulls because of the unit patch they all wore with the latter sticking as their official nick name. They also have a pretty badass motto of “ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK”. The 135th Infantry regiment of the 34th also traces its roots back to the 1st Minnesota Volunteer infantry regiment who were the first volunteers offered to Lincoln during the American civil war. They also deserve their own video. 1000 Minnesotans volunteered at the start of the war and by the second day of Gettysburg only 262 men remained. Those 262 then were ordered to charge down a hill into a confederate battalion consisting of more then 1200 men alone. Without question and without fear all 262 charged down the hill and within 5 minutes 215 of the men were dead or wounded. The charge was crucial (some historians say that charge alone saved the Union) as it bought time for the Union to reorganize its lines and repel the attack on Little Round Top. The surviving 47 men the following day helped repel Pickets charge, capturing a confederate flag in the process which Minnesota still holds today. Because of the origin of the 135th tracing back to the 1st Minnesota, their motto today stands as “To The Last Man” and is by far my favorite motto I’ve ever seen. Minnesotans are straight up warriors and it makes sense why. The land was settled by Scandinavians and Germans, two groups of people well known for their prowess in battle. History doesn’t talk much about the 1st Minnesota or the 34th even though they both carried out monumental tasks on the battlefield. Would love to see FE dissect these stories of badass men.

Actually, the 34th didn’t have the 2nd most. They had 500 days of combat, and other units had more.
      European Theatre:
      3rd ID (536)
      45th ID (511)
      *34th ID (500)*

      Americal Division (600)
      37th ID (592)
      1st Cavalry Division (521)
The 34th had the 7th most days of combat of all divisions, with the 3rd most in the ETO. No doubt about it, the 34th was a distinguished unit that succeeded in many of its tasks. It would be a great topic for one of his videos.

I’ve said it before but the greatest generation was different. It’s like they lacked fear. Speaking with my grandfather who served at 16 years old about his time in Bastogne in ww2 with the 101st. He always said “We were tired we were hungry we were cold (he was a northern Minnesota boy so that’s something) we were low on ammo but they told us to hold the line so that’s what we did.” The way he said it with such confidence 50+ years later will stay with me forever. He was the toughest man I’ve ever met and I miss him everyday.
