    I think everyone judges others by their appearance to some extent, it's unavoidable and something we're programmed to do. I think the main implication with that saying is that you shouldn't act bad/shitty towards someone based on their appearance and your biases toward them, and that you should try to mitigate your biases a bit. For example, if you treat someone badly because you think they look like a "pedophile" that'd be kind of fucked up as you're harshly manifesting your prejudice toward that person for simply existing with the appearance they were born with and have no control over.

    someone once told me that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but that the cover should give you a good idea of what the book wants to present itself as, which can be telling of what is inside. it doesn't translate very well with people because we don't always have control over how we look to others.

    I look like a creep so people treat me as such. It affected me negativity and messed up my self esteem.....but I got lucky. I know of dudes who were treated like a criminal their whole life and later became criminals. Some of these guys i knew are now serving time for serious crimes. It is better to get to know someone before you judge them.... Unless they are bronies. They are the lowest of the low.

      beauty is subjective, everyone is beautiful imo, im not a fan of the way she worded her thoughts on that in this video.     I see the people in the comments are taking the metaphor from only one angle. A book can have a very appealing cover and still have a bad story. This is why the metaphor exists. Sure we all judge people based on how they look , even subconciously and thats fine.Its our nature. But what I understand from the metaphor is not everyone is what they seem but everyone deserves a chance. It doesn't have to be two chances. Just a chance

    'Don't judge a book by its cover' Simply means: Be an open minded person. someone that knows that sometimes a book's cover doesn't do justice to the story that it has inside.
    Also: For having preconceived opinions based ONLY on the cover of the book, ( which is really like 1% information about the whole book ) you are the one that is missing an opportunity to potentially read a fantastic story.

      Okay, I hear you. BUT, and hear me out. This is the worst idiom ever. The whole POINT of a books cover is so that you can judge it at a glance and decide if you wanna read it or not. Like the message of the idiom makes sense and is nice but literally only doesn’t apply to books.

    A month ago I had this certain book all around my newsfeed but I didn't pay much attention to it for a whole year due to it's wackadoo title and uninteresting "cover" until I finally ran out of books to read which forced me to give it a chance. Then BOOM! I completely fell inlove with the book! Couldn't believe how much I hated myself for not giving it a chance sooner, and then decided to never judge a book by it's cover ever again! It was honestly a beautiful feeling but not that most of you will care.

    Sometimes you gotta judge a book by its cover to keep safe. If I try to make a friend or buy from someone and they look off, you gotta judge em. Not judging a book by its cover is valid, but judging one is just as valid tbh.
