I moved to a smaller community and couldn't find a tailor through Google. I ended up reaching out to a specifically bridal fitting service and they referred me to the local tailor . . . who had closed their brick and mortar shop a year ago and now operated out of a small space one day a week. Many of these people know each other and more and more skilled artisans are taking their trade private, off the books. Leasing a storefront for 1800 a month doesn't make sense, it's a different world now.

Thanks for another quality video. I'm not sure if you have done this yet, but finding a quality dry cleaner would be a nice one. I remember taking a canvas suit with a nice lapel roll to the dry cleaner to have them press the lapels flat 😭

I got a Bespoke suit from Michael Andrews in the city because I watched one of your videos and I can fully recommend the experience. Michael was such a great guy. He offered his recommendations to me without being pushy. It is pretty pricey as my suit was $2,700 but I understand in the city the prices will be a little inflated.

Great video, Brian. Since moving to Atlanta, I've been looking and I found Guffey's in Tower Place, Buckhead. It's an old school, full service store offering a wide variety of suits, formalwear and casual clothing. The in house tailors are awesome. Definitely worth a look if you ever travel down here. All best, Bill

Wish you’d be a little less generic when it comes to ‘is the tailor any good’. Would be great to see examples of seams or other finishes, for example.
Is the trouser hem seam done nicely or all over the place? How invisible is the stitching on a plain hem?
Or does the tailor take measurements and incl the numbers on the receipt so you know if it’s done as agreed on at collection?
Things I had to learn the hard way by nearly ruining good pieces of clothing with poor tailors.

Where I live (Indonesia), you can’t trust online reviews bc most people aren’t that knowledgeable enough to really tell whether something is qood or bad quality. I’ve seen so many terrible & overpriced Tailors who got 5 stars reviews. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Hey Brian, I do have more of a personal question, I am in the look for a bold suit (it’ll be bespoke) that is still Classic and Elegant. Any recomendations?

For a classic "bold" suit, I'd go with a grey glen plaid double-breasted flannel suit.

Love your videos. Thanks!! I have a video idea for you that it seems nobody has done: stretchy suit material.
I’m getting my first bespoke suit. I’m a musician so it occurred to me that a stretchy material may be good not only for stage but for general comfort. I looked on RUclips for advice on the topic and I can barely find anything. There are ads and seemingly fake reviews plus one explanation of various fabrics but no pros and cons flex material used for bespoke suits. Seems like a video opportunity for you. If possible can you give general quick advice here? Thanks!!

I find the video generically helpful because tailoring is very important and finding a good quality tailor, yet it’s also limiting. People live in all kind of areas, some big cities and small cities and in between and the amount of tailors or quality ones vary. That said, finding a good tailor is almost harder than finding a good suit. Because good tailors are damn hard to find and it all takes time assess a tailors work going back and forth with the clothing being tailored. Sometimes I’ve used an alteration business for different reasons as well. For me I personally use two different business being in the West Pittsburgh area for my tailoring needs with one actually being a tailor, the other an alteration business. In the beginning it took a long time tracking down the stores and looking at reviews on Google maps. Then taking a few items there doing fitting and doing the turnaround time. The one tailor I had to go back for Trouser alteration about 4 times. He initially just did not measure trousers correctly for hemming and cuffing the pants. I almost felt bad having to take the pants back every time and so much so I lost my enthusiasm having to go there. The alteration business was less menswear specific and focus, good location to deliver the cloth for alteration needs and one the last there was very attentive to how I wanted the trousers to fit. So I explained from everything I knew and did the alterations.
Very few times I’ve had to take anything back a second time to fix with a week turnaround but only few times. Thus I’ve learned so far at this point what piece of clothing I take to either business for tailoring or alteration needs. Quality tailors and tailoring are not everywhere. It’s time consuming to find good ones via trial and error and we all hope to avoid those that cause errors. Getting good recommendations from others who has impeccable tailoring as you have pointed out helps immensely and does much to narrow down where to look. But it’s not easy to find a good tailor.

What do you think of a department store tailor assuming you stay with a brand that fits you well? Will that or should that be considered a decent standard? Or is it a case of you do not know what you are missing till you had it so spend more money?

Great video. For anyone looking in the South Jersey & Philadelphia area I'd recommend looking into "AngelDTailor" Always had great results, he really takes the time to get to know the customer & what they want, kinda like you said. I've been to other tailors who won't taper pants and do more modern fits. Angel is a younger guy so I feel like he knows what's on trend.

Great video, I've been looking for a custom suit maker in the DC area. I know you have Baltimore roots (saw your custom suiting mistakes video which mentions a shop there for example). Following tips 1 and 3, do you have any shop recommendations for the DC area these days? I've googled, but some of the "style" just feels a bit too stuffy/traditional or lacking in personality. Any ideas?

Hey, Zachary. Thanks for the comment. As far as custom suits in DC, I don't have any experience other than when Michael Andrews had a showroom there years ago. Mike still sends someone down once a month though and as I'm sure you know, our custom clothing in the HSS Shop is in partnership with MAB. You can certainly order online for a non-bespoke price point and get together with Frasier when he comes to DC. Let me know either way and please feel free to book a free virtual consultation with no strings attached: www.michaelandrews.com/booking?location=HSS

Any well made suit that a guy wears he should be able to take it, roll it into a ball, crush it, stamp on it and then sleep in it overnight and it should look as fresh as the previous day. It’s the experience of the cutter that allows this.
A well dressed guy would be so confident and sexy at the same time and would be noticed in a crowd.
The suit is always part of the whole package for me. Example I give is:
The shirts from Turnball and Asser and the shoes from John Lobb
And to finish off a great hair cut and just well groomed

Here's another tip. Buy a sewing machine and learn how to do your own alterations. Sewing a hem is not that difficult and you can head to the thrift store and buy some cheap items to practice on.
