Vantika Agrawal showed her class in the 9th round of the Chess Olympiad 2024 as she took on the American legend and 8-time US champion GM Irina Krush. India was lagging behind 1-2 in the match and Vantika had to deliver under pressure. And this is what she did.

In women's chess, it is Indian third board (Divya Deshmukh) and fourth Board (Vantika Agrawal) who repeatedly saved Indian blushes after the top two boards let the team down by losing their matches. But for the superlative performances by Divya Deshmukh and Vantika Agrawal, Indian women would have missed even bronze medal, forget winning the gold.

Ms Krush was equal until she started moving back all her pieces after her Queen was cornered. Lost space. Didn't even swap her bishop there till the end to clear out space...and her Queen and bishop remained idle in the end.

I'm just wondering how Sagar find the right moves.. Is he using an engine while watching the games or he's just a good chess player?

Both actually. He is using engine sometimes in live commentary to find the best moves but on the other hand, he is a good chess player (he only needs 1 GM norm to become a GM). It's just that he stopped playing tournaments years ago so it takes some time for him to find best moves by himself
