- The season opener of the 1999 TNN Motor Madness Monster Jam season starts and the 8th wonder of the world, the Houston Astrodome. A great lineup of trucks should make for some great competition!

Really, I just love watching OLD 1990's era monster trucks, mostly the PENDA series from like 1989 to 1997, it was some of the best racing imo.
I miss when the events were packed with all this action.. spent many of my early years at what was Edison field(Angel Stadium), when there were monster trucks, short course trucks, demolition derbies and even atv races all in one night! They would throw in the sand/mud drags every so often and that was always fun.
Now, Monster Jam is all about big cartoony trucks, rushing through the racing program, “2 wheel trick” segment and freestyle. While impressive, I miss when the trucks were trucks and they had more than just the monsters on the bill.
I heavily dislike the modern format. they even started calling the drivers "athletes" like what??? I'm sorry but some fat guy in a truck is not an athlete. TWS is one of the dumbest segments i've ever seen, but not as dumb as the truck design. I run a monster truck league together with a couple of others on BeamNG.drive and we all run just basic stock body trucks. Bulldozer was a neat idea but then stuff like Zombie started coming along, Megalodon, Scooby Doo and all sorts of other weird body styles that arent trucks at all.
@@linux_doggo yeah I’m not sure about “athletes.” Maybe when they incorporated the driver atv/utv races in their arena events, but that’s kind of a stretch. I love the OG Bulldozer, Samson and even OG Jurrasic Attack, but I can’t get with all these “Fire & Ice” teams, and these concept body styles. Maybe I’m just weird that way. 🤔

I loved the old monster jam Dan always got everyone pumped Mike Hogewood and Scott Douglas (rip them both) we're great commentary guys especially Hogewood he was the Jim Ross of Monster Jam

Ironic that you mention M Hogewood as being the "Jim Ross of Monster Jam" seeing as how he would go on to do commentary for Ring Of Honor Wrestling around 2010.
This was the first monster truck show I ever attended at the Astrodome. I was a fan of monster trucks before then, but this was the second time I had seen them in person.

i miss when USHRA just did all of these little events together in one weekend, gave the smaller motorsports within the ushra a chance to shine and attract new fans who may have otherwise dismissed the sport.
I think I was at this one, I would of been 8 years old if this was after the 21st of February.
I thought Minneapolis was the first Motor Madness show of the 1999 season

Though Bigfoot ran with other promoters they still had more decorations than Bear Foot. Scott Douglas was just flat wrong.

Where is Bigfoot
Bigfoot was primarily involved in other monster truck racing series such as the PENDA Points Series, the USA Motorsports Monster Truck Challenge and the No Limits Monster Truck Championship. Although they would compete in USHRA monster truck events, by 1998, Bigfoot had completely separated themselves from Monster Jam due to a dispute over licensing rights.

During this time BigFoot was doing the Thunder Series and Bigfoot corporation and Monster Jam had a lot of disagreements about things and Bob Chandler said "FUCK YOU!" to FELD motor Sports for a time and wanted nothing to do with FELD, I think that it was cause FELD wanted to buy the BigFoot Brand and Bob was having none of that.. Honestly FELD screwed a lot of stuff up. I personally miss the PENDA series, some of the best racing ever even if it was just straight-line drags most of the time. FELD has not been all that friendly with indipendant drivers over the years, many get screwed over and ignored by FELD where as in the old days the USHRA would invite local monster truck drivers to whatever event was happening near them. Doesn't happen like that anymore.
