Looking good. Already at 5:27 am. I got some pink eyes , little okra, and a few tiny tomatoes cooking up for my mother's lunch. Just got her to my house in buna. She loving the fresh greens and squashes. Praying it all does her body well. Been long week of dealing with hospice and others. Keep smiling everyone. So thankful for everything . We had a feed store in central Arkansas in the 90's. There was one sheller in the store when we bought it, and we got a second sheller after the first year. We bought pinkeye purplehull seed by the 50 lb. bag in spring, and would have both shellers running in the fall - plus a customer who came by and picked up all the hulls for her pigs! This brings back such memories . . .

@@kathybruton2186 Hey Kathy I didn't draw any plans , I just built mine off memory of a sheller that a feed store had before they closed the doors . I just used the operation theory design of the machine . So far I've found that it will shell peas , red beans , butter beans and pintos . It will not shell the ole Ford hook large limas . Maybe say it like this , it will shell em but the large beans will not go thru the screen . It took me approx 3 1/2 months to build in my spare time . Makes a good winter project but worth the investment .

@@kathybruton2186 lol well the best of luck to ya Kathy . Looks like that old pea sheller Dan has was similar to the old washing machines back in the day that had the rollers to ring the cloths out , mine is built with a drum that's approx 5' long that turns to keep the peas moving and the shaft with the paddles spins also to lightly slap the peas from the hulls and falls thru a screen and thru a blower to remove the pea husk from the peas . But good luck with your gardening cause the way things are going we need to be ready for what might come down the pipe for sure . C ya and have a great day .

Got a suggestion from S. Calif citrus country. As your trees mature enough to withstand it, trim the trees three feet off the ground to prevent citrus leaf miners. Their early life cycle is in the soil. By trimming up high enough, you give them less opportunity to become a real threat to your trees.

Could y’all send me the information for the pea shelter please, sure beats shelling by hand. Keep the videos coming, I watch y’all all the time. Learned a lot from y’all!

There's nothing better than purple hull peas, a pan of cornbread and a little fried okra on top of the peas. Ya'll just made me hungry, now I need to go take out some peas for dinner.

I had a thought - I was reminded of an episode of Moonshiners (or something similar) where they'd gotten a pickup truck full of sugar cane, and used an old wringer/washer to squeeze the juice out of the cane. Made me wonder if the wringers on the pea sheller could be utilized in a similar fashion . . .

@@DeepSouthHomestead It would be interesting to give it a try - although likely a sticky mess to clean up afterward.

    Danny,
How far apart in row are you seeding your purple hull?

Those look great if I can ever get a big enough harvest I will have to try that instead of freezing them. One quick question I noticed the water level had dropped on one of the jars, I have that problem when I did my potatoes where the potatoes aren’t fully submerged in the water after the canning process was finished, is that a major issue?

Ms Wanda, I love the big pot and especially your big ladle. Where did you buy that?

The pot is a deluxe there's a link on Crazy Dazes for it. The ladle came from a kitchen store.

I found that sheller on Amazon for $835. Many different pea shellers are listed for less but that Taylor one is the only one I see that's made in the USA. I'm going to keep my eye out for a used one. Can you use it for beans too like for shelling dry Cherokee Trail beans? I grew those for black beans this year and it took me several hours to sit and shell a single quart jar full.

Every time I watch your channel I see something I want to raise. Now you got me wanting to plant some purple hull peas next year. The last year I raised them I canned about 30 quarts of them.
