Thats how you know your livestock's doing very well healthwise and mentally/physically. The joy I get from seeing happy animals in the wild can't be matched by anything. I love it!
This comment is about your Porch Talk video on the flooding of your property. I live on a sloped property. Heavy rain here can look like a full river. I moved here 9 years ago. The topsoil had been eroded away and was exposing a lot of tree roots. I have a lot of trees... forest like. I first started out laying landscape timbers, tree logs, whatever I could get, down on the ground between some of the trees. Over the years, the soil built up to these barriers, somewhat leveling the property into terraces. I even planted Liriope (monkey grass) along those ridges to help maintain the soil. However, it wasn't enough in some areas, so I began digging shallow swales (ditches) in contour with my hill. I started this about 3 years ago. On the ridges behind the ditches, I planted my fruit trees. Now, when it rains the soil collects more and it soaks down into the hill instead of washing over it. Everything including my pasture grass has grown lusher and greener. I am still working on repairing the soil in various areas of the property. I just wanted to share this with you.
Thank you for sharing. This is what we were taught on the farm when we were young . I don't believe the majority of the youth today has the abundance of knowledge or the wisdom that we grew up with from our elders. God Bless you guys !
The youth hasn't been taught by THEIR elders. We have 3, maybe 4 or more in some families, generations of people who don't know how to do ANY of this stuff. I feel so gypped that I wasn't taught anything useful by my parents and grandparents, but they didn't learn from their parents and grandparents either. For many of us, it goes back a long way. It's so sad. For the record, we are having our children learn alongside us.
Your neighbor to the north is praying for you two regarding your weather. God bless you two and your homestead. May the Lord protect your plants and animals.
We are praying you don’t get the weather they are talking about. The video was really awesome and educational. You all take care and be safe. God Bless🙏♥️🇺🇸
WOW, Your homestead sure has come to live in the past week! So nice to see nature waking up. Your place is really looking amazing. All the hard work you two have done is really shining. Hope you dodge the severe weather.
Just a blessing having such a knowledgeable couple to teach all of us how to save money and be self sufficient, especially these days God bless you Mr. Danny & Mrs Wanda. Big hugs Josette Tharp Montgomery County, Texas 🙏🏻
It's great that you have all that to protect your plants. We don't have a covered place to put our plants under. We can't afford those vertical greenstalks. For those of us new to gardening, we have to go by the last frost date and watching the weather. I'm waiting until after Easter to look at planting anything for summer. We don't have a greenhouse or a high tunnel. You are very blessed. We are doing our best to do what we need to do to have food and a garden.
You don’t really need to. I don’t have those things either. Let me give you my best solution to garden failure; I find a wholesaler and buy what failed. I gotta make the calls, drive hours, process the foods. One does what one has to do with little fanfare where I am. Stoicism it’s called.
I recommend keeping a gardening journal. One thing I always write down is the last spring frosts as well as the first fall frost dates. It is interesting comparing the dates from year to year. My garden has had multiple frosts a full week after the average frost free date for my area. I have learned to expect it.
I don't have much money either but I bought a large 5ft Green Stalk on sale by $40 at the Valentine's Day sale. There is no shipping cost too! It is a lot of space for plants so I decided it was worth it. I'm really happy I bought it.
I don't question anything about the method you use to grow your plants . From watching Deep South I know that you're way more advanced than me I'll keep watching and keep learning most of your methods and theories and adjust them to my Indiana climate .Thank You
Mr Danny and Miss Wanda:God bless you both! Praying for you all here in Harviell Missouri. Provision and protection from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 🙏
I have never seen cows frolicking before, except maybe when they are let out to pasture for the first time in spring. It was so cute. Animals are sweet whether small like a mouse or big like a cow.
Danny, here in Wisconsin, we put stones on the shores to hold the soil from washing off. Thank you and your camera woman, Wanda for the beautiful walk around your homestead. You are blessed indeed! Both of you work very hard to have such bounty!
Weather! With a proper study hurricane proof greenhouse i can grow all year. This winter was weird, longer than normal, but this climate I'm in is just a blessing from God. I can grow some type of food all year without a green house.
All my citrus died in the freeze a few weeks ago, here in Texas City, TX. Now I am on the hunt for citrus trees so I can get some planted. Thanks for sharing. Have a Blessed Day.
Great teaching and loved watching the cattle having a romp. Super job you're doing on your videos and on your homestead. Very wise people you are 😊👍 Blessings from a non-compliant great grammie in Michigan ❣️
You are so right Danny! Daddy always taught me to understand the weather, feeling and smelling the soil, Feeling the the moisture in the air, watching the birds and other animals. Alot to consider. You need to pay attention.
My whole life revolves around the weather, pretty much. With livestock, it has to. Crops/gardens, it has to. Haying season...yeah. I've been paying attention to solar flares, etc, for many years now and the effects on all things farming (and people, but that's a nightmare all on its own). Technology is amazing when it comes to weather prediction but sometimes it's more accurate to watch the trees, sky and animal behavior. Cattle and most horses here haven't fully started blowing winter coats yet. That historically means an around Easter cold snap. Looks like that'll be the case in our little corner of 7B.
Thank you Mr. and Mrs. King. I NEEDED this video today, Saturday, just for my soul. Just sittin' and broodin' over the weather and when to plant. I've started some things inside. I've planted five asparagus crowns, a new thing for me. Just hope that the birds will leave the sprouts alone, but I know that I can cover them.
Just started watching! What a wonderful homestead. I can see much love and very hard work and wisdom from God on you planning and advise on planting and weather. I am in awe of you both. So excited to be able to watch. By the way what state are you in? Will be praying that the bad weather you were talking about doesn't happen and God spares everyone in the south from destruction. We serve a very good and powerful LORD and Savior! Amen.
This was a great video. So much good information. I enjoyed this from the beginning to the end . And I loved seeing the cows playing. Just perfect . Thank you for sharing.
OK, OK, I said cover the fruit trees, sorry. Forgot about all the big one's was just thinking about the smaller one's by the cabin and forgot the big guys.. Prayers that the weather take's a turn for the better - warmer, for you all. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe, warm and healthy. God bless
Playing cows! You have a Green Stalk tower too! I'm using mine as a kitchen garden because our deck is right outside of our kitchen. I'm growing herbs, radishes, and lettuce. Love your high tunnels! Thanks for your advice.
This is so helpful. I haven't been gardening very long and sometimes I feel like I don't know what I'm doing and then I watch your videos and see that you guys are facing the same challenges. Thank you so much for sharing - it really helps.
It'll be 2 more months before our trees look as leafed out as yours. In the meantime, I'm building sustainable, 3 1/2" deep, wooden seed trays and will start seeds outside on the deck.
Enjoyed the video so much! Praying the rough weather doesn’t harm the fruit trees this year. Last year the killer frost in April killed the fruit crop here in southern Tennessee. I have yet to have a crop after waiting 5 years. Maybe this year. 🙏🏻
Love the show. I was told years ago that when the frost hit, if you wash your plants with just water from a can or hose sprinkler before the sun hit them they will be ok. Im in arkansas zone 8 and it has worked for me before. So if you think about it next frost, give it a test run and see what happens.
Nitrogen fixation is one reason why rain makes things grow better than just watering... just learned this and about the 'water cycle'; thought I'd share
Great. After watching some of this video and with bad weather coming in our area yesterday, I decided to cover my blueberries and garden boxes I just planted with seeds so they wouldn't wash away with the heavy rains. I also covered new transplants with mason jars. Weather is an important factor in gardening.
I think you are very lucky to have such a beautiful place. My father had a small farm when i was a teenager, growing cotton and corn. He would of liked to have had a place like yours. Good luck to you.
3 years ago I had the most beautiful crop of garlic, then it really started raining. Despite my sandy soil and slightly sloping garden,my garden started to rot. I didn’t know any better, having only grown garlic during dry years in NC and AZ. Now I know better and will be pulling up garlic if it’s near harvest and starts to pour nonstop like that. I often get sweet potatoes cracking due to tropical storms or hurricanes so this year I’m growing two varieties and I’m also going to grow some early, some a little later. I plan to harvest at least some of them before we start to get the heavy late summer/fall hurricane season rains when it starts to crack my sweet potatoes. I’ve also had trouble curing them too late in the fall if it gets too cool so harvesting some early will allow me to cure most of them in the barn while it’s still humid and warm. I’m also building a small, inexpensive Amazon greenhouse/10x25 feet in order to climate control my tomatoes and other high value crops so that I can hopefully control the amount of water/bugs/disease and extend the seasons some.
I can watch you over and over you have a great homestead, I am 63 years old don’t watch much tv I watch you tube farming videos,I don’t like the foolishness on tv
Your farm is so beautiful, I pray the bad weather misses you. Thanks so much for all the great information in this video. I always look forward to your videos and your advise. God bless
You guys have a beautiful farm.living in New England I never knew blueberries could grow so tall! You have a wonderful piece of land. When I get really depressed my husband takes me to see a neighbor's cows, yours was a treat, l never knew cows ran like that. I guess that's why there's not to many farmers up here.😁
Those Dexters act like a bunch of puppies sometimes, don’t they? I love to watch them play!! Thanks!!
weather is why I bought a greenstalk and why I am building a small greenhouse
I could watch the cows play for hours. Loved how you paused your important information to just take in the moment of them playing.
Thats how you know your livestock's doing very well healthwise and mentally/physically. The joy I get from seeing happy animals in the wild can't be matched by anything. I love it!

It is so heartwarming to see happy cows. Thank you for sharing them with us ❤️
It was fun to watch the cows playing!
Some times if just feels good to kick up your heels and have some fun , I pray you all stay safe and don't have any serious weather .
I didn't realize cows were playful! I could watch them all day!
Your neighbor to the north is praying for you two regarding your weather. God bless you two and your homestead. May the Lord protect your plants and animals.
The baby moos are getting big!💞
Everything is looking beautiful, praying it stays that way! Just love watching the cows frolicking having a good time 😁💝
We are praying you don’t get the weather they are talking about. The video was really awesome and educational. You all take care and be safe. God Bless🙏♥️🇺🇸
I covered all my plants everyone looked at me luke I was crazy then we went down to the 30 in south Texas.
WOW, Your homestead sure has come to live in the past week! So nice to see nature waking up. Your place is really looking amazing. All the hard work you two have done is really shining. Hope you dodge the severe weather.
You have a beautiful place, can actually see all of the hard work you have put into it!!!! TAKE CARE & watch the weather!
Just a blessing having such a knowledgeable couple to teach all of us how to save money and be self sufficient, especially these days
God bless you
Mr. Danny & Mrs Wanda.

Yes, we need to take into account the weather as a whole, not just the frost line or time. Thank you, very useful.

Row covers can really help even just the thin plastic over your garden beds if there's a frost

Those are some happy cows. Love to see your place.
Mr Danny and Miss Wanda:God bless you both! Praying for you all here in Harviell Missouri. Provision and protection from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 🙏
I have never seen cows jump around like that. Made me smile!
Danny, DOH! You give most folks more common sense than they can ever hope for. The last frost is only an average based on history.
Did I see Mr. Dexter kick up his heels just a bit? Happy Spring!
I just love watching happy farm animals ... Makes me smile XO
Working On Getting MOre Production as Well.. Thanks for sharing your KNowledge
I have never seen cows frolicking before, except maybe when they are let out to pasture for the first time in spring. It was so cute. Animals are sweet whether small like a mouse or big like a cow.
I love it when the trees get that "fuzzy" look in the spring.....
Thanks Danny and Wanda.
your green stalk planter is looking awesome !!
Danny, here in Wisconsin, we put stones on the shores to hold the soil from washing off. Thank you and your camera woman, Wanda for the beautiful walk around your homestead. You are blessed indeed! Both of you work very hard to have such bounty!

Thanks for the tour. Your homestead is beautiful. All your hard work has definately paid off. Thanks, too, for all the planting tips.
Watching the cows make me think about setting in my deer stand. Watching the fawns play, I have passed up on some nice does.
Then playing makes me smile👍 😄
All my citrus died in the freeze a few weeks ago, here in Texas City, TX. Now I am on the hunt for citrus trees so I can get some planted. Thanks for sharing. Have a Blessed Day.

I figured this out last spring, my first time gardening. Haha. Waiting it out this year.
Man Danny you are just a smart person i am glad you do this on youtube so some of us can take in your brilliance!!! Thank you!!!

Everything looks beautiful. I will pray those high winds don't damage your greenhouses. Those cows are too funny, like children looking for goodies
I loved watching the cows play. I love being good to my 3 dogs 1 cat. also
This was a great video. So much good information. I enjoyed this from the beginning to the end . And I loved seeing the cows playing. Just perfect . Thank you for sharing.

The raised beds in the high tunnel look great!
Playing cows! You have a Green Stalk tower too! I'm using mine as a kitchen garden because our deck is right outside of our kitchen. I'm growing herbs, radishes, and lettuce. Love your high tunnels! Thanks for your advice.
We were one of the first RUclips channels to review the green stalks.
the last frost in WV is May 15th
This is such a help especially to a new gardener. Thank you both for the encouragement and beautiful visual lessons you provide 🥰
This is so helpful. I haven't been gardening very long and sometimes I feel like I don't know what I'm doing and then I watch your videos and see that you guys are facing the same challenges. Thank you so much for sharing - it really helps.
Nice spending time on the walk around with beautiful scenery and learning from Danny wisdom😉 Blessing to y'all❤🙏
When Mr. Danny Jumped from on side of the pond to the other I got kinda scared lol... I didnt know what was going on!!!!
LOL He won't do that today! Water is nearly up to those rocks. He is still pretty good on his feet!
It'll be 2 more months before our trees look as leafed out as yours. In the meantime, I'm building sustainable, 3 1/2" deep, wooden seed trays and will start seeds outside on the deck.

If you don't keep a log, you are playing Russian roulette with your crops. It's not perfect but it really helps.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and loved watching the cows play. It brightens my day.
I love your videos! Thank you for all you share with us.
