- Koncovka is a slovak overtone fipple flute traditionally played by shepherds throughout the Carpathian Mountain region of Slovakia.
As a shepherd's flute, the koncovka is capable of intimacy of expression typical of the meditations of a lone shepherd.

Hi, I am improvising and playing a traditional song Pred dubom, za dubom. I learned it just by ear. I think taht koncovka is a very intuitive instrument. There are some charts online and once you figure out the scale, you can play these kind of songs without any problem :)

I am afraid that it is not really possible on this instrument since I can play only the overtone scale, I have one more instrument with one more hole.. I will try it :) xiexie for listening! 🥰

I would like to make such an instrument. I have already read up on the form of the mouth piece. Could you tell me the length and internal bore diameter of your flute? I assume it is a constant internal bore diameter, if not what changes along the length have you applied? I assume your mouth piece is just the end of the flute cut at an angle around the entire periphery, rather than the typical bird found on recorders?

@@veronika_vitazkova , thanks much appreciated. Have joined the group you mentioned. Interesting. Suspect there might be a language barrier, a lot of talk non-english, at the moment relying upon the built in language translation tool in FaceBook.
@@normanfreund most people speak english or are willing to translate if the automatic translator makes no sense :) just ask 🙂
After I had a guide in the Czech Republic that played one throughout our tour, I fell in love with the instrument and was able to order one on Etsy from someone in Slovakia. I just checked and he still has his shop. Just do a search for koncavka

@@veronika_vitazkova Not yet, but I did get a Tilinca, which is similar. The trill I was wondering about is the one you do starting at 0:08, I can see that the sound is formed in the mouth due to the movement of your jaw, instead of with your finger. I'm trying to replicate it by trilling R's whilst blowing, but doing so lets some of the air out the sides when doing higher pitches, which isn't good I think.

Now I'm thinking we should call it "kincivka" in Ukrainian and "koncovka" in Russian too, it just makes much more sense :)

I have bought this overtone flute few weeks ago and it’s great! Same tune and it’s made by Mr. Žďárský 😊.
Can these be chromatic?
I don´t think so, because there are not so many holes, my koncovka maker made me one more instrument that has an extra hole so I can do some half notes but not all of them. I am planing to get a full set of koncovkas - where I can play in every key and and also switch them as needed.

by ear and watching videos :) that is how I learned it and if you get a chance to meet a player that would show you directly or one online lesson should already help a lot :)
