This song was written 95 years ago by Brecht and Weil and its still popular the fact Jim and Ray could just find an old vaudeville song and transform is just incredible there has never been a band that has spoke to me more than the doors all four musicians were geniuses
Jims spirit was NEVER broken. His life ended exactly as he wanted. He lived his life like HE wanted to and that's what he did. I doubt he had any regrets
I was drunk on whiskey throughout the '90's (needless to say that decade was a little foggy) as I was on a major Doors kick and a few others. I would crack open just about every bottle to this song and drink the good stuff like water. I had to at least slow down because the family doc said I would never see 40 the way I was going. Me and my liver miss those days.
My heart aches for poor Jim. He had so many problems, and his fame just made those issues bloom. He wanted death so badly. It is very sad a young talented man like him had to go through that. R.I.P. Jim♥
I swear to God 3 of my friends and I met a guy that looked and sounded EXACTLY like Jim Morrison while having dinner in a small little town in northern Califronia in the mid-1980s. We were talking about the music of the 1960s and how it was so much better than anything that was being made these days, and this guy in his later 40s or early 50s overheard us and kind of interjected in to our conversation from the next table. He started talking about the 1960s music scene like he had inside industry knowledge... even made some interesting comments about John Fogerty of CCR. He claimed he worked in "waste disposal" but I swear in hindsight it looked and sounded exactly like an older Jim Morrison. I didn't realize it until later that night when I got home from dinner. That has stuck with me over the decades for some reason...
Am I the only man out there to challenge their asserton that Jim Morrison was eqsuistitly handsome? No, he mos definitely handsome, he was full on Beautiful. In his prime I could not get over that face, looked lik God took a personal role in that creation. Has there been a more bautiful man since? And he was so damn talented it hurts the Band made no more music, especially in the bluessier direction they head off in with the sublime LA Woman. RIP Mr Mojo Risin, you made so many of us happy!
I wonder how many of you guys hit the bar right after hearing for the first time this song. Humanity is blessed for having unique cratures like morrison passing by even for just a little while like he did.
That’s what you think. This song is not a blessing. It’s about MK abuse that he experienced in real life. Probably why he broke contact with his parents. The Doors were produced by a Rothschild. So was Joni Michell. They encouraged Jim to sing destructive lyrics to encourage young people into destroying their lives. Drink, drugs, suicide and promiscuity.

I like this version and I think he was trying different inflections. I agree that I like the album version best, but the Doors did their songs on the road a lot and probably took the license to try a few experiments. I saw the Door twice in Connecticut, (the Oakdale theater, and in New Haven). One of the best, and tightest live bands I've seen so I think they could back up what they did in the studio.
This is my fav Jim MOrrison, his bearded la woman phase, i love itl i relate to late jim the most, i dedicated my last beard to him.... Let us not forget that he is a god, he is dyonisis, he is shamen of art and poetry. Look no further than texas raido and the big beat. Jim is the reason music dosnt suck for me now a days. " Death makes angles of us all and gives u wings where we had shoulders smooth as ravens claws."
poor jim all he wanted 2 really do was films he looks very sad there but hes still got the voice and he could beard himself up keep lookin bad and he still had a following he also was very into the best poetry i ever have heard beautiful soothing voice
You have to take care of yourself no matter how good-looking you are or you will lose it! He knew what he was doing to himself with the drugs and alcohol--it was his choice to go down that path. Basically he didn't want to live, because of his demons. He even referred to the drinking as "slow suicide." But he was incredibly gifted and gave us so much before he left. I love him both ways--thin and beautiful and when he was heavy and prematurely aged.
In my opition, everything they did was superb ! I cant even say wich is my favorite Doors song cause when I think its one, and then I hapen to listen to another and they are all great...
Actually they did quite a few covers, back door man, Gloria, Alabama Song, Mystery Train, St. James Infirmiry, SummerTime, ect. They just made them sound like their own...what a great band!
Dudee im going to see Robby Kriegar and Ray Manzarek on Noz. 5th!!! The closest thing I will ever get to seeing The Doors in my lifetime!! I started to ccry when i found out! The Doors will live on forever!!!!
That sounds right to me, thanks. I think John Densmore mentions that in his book, "Riders On The Storm," though it's been 20 + years since I've read it, so I could easily be wrong. It's a good book, btw.
@TomFromJersey The studio version of this song is a lot longer yes. They played a shorter version of it (like this one) live. I'm not aware of any live version were they played the song as a whole.
Don't know if you notice that from 0:33 to 0:34 there is a slight scratch sound on the VHS video screen that sounded like backing vocals that sounded like "yeh, yeh".
well he was high have the time on stage...he was altogether a pretty apathetic guy...very poetic...sadly what u think is relaxed was actually an increasing case of depression...idk if one would call it relaxed...but this was 2 yrs before he died so he was already in bad condition
HES NOTHIN MORE THAN A MAN. HE JUST GOOD WITH HIS WORDS. I LIKE HIM HES ONE OF MY FAVS. BUT DONT MAKE AN IDOL OF THIS MAN HES NO DIFFERENT THAN ME AND YOU
I've never driven around 1970 L.A. in an old convertible, but when I listen to the Doors, I feel like I have.
I have... Love 💜☮️

It's not vaudeville. It's German.

The song was still new when they were kids
Y hay una versión de David Bowie, también
Jim Morrison, there will never be another like you. In my eyes you are the king of rock and roll and you always will be, I tip my hat to you sir.
If he was indeed intoxicated, it didnt matter, for he sings wonderfully here! Still sounds great
So happy to see this formerly rare footage on the RUclipss.

Great video-unbelievable Jim was 25 years old here...he looks so much older...gorgeous, but older. Love this concert.

I LOVE THE BEARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do love this version far better than the original one. Jim's voice and his performance is peculiar here.
Legends don't age.
If anything, Morrison is a good example of why shaving is important.

Love that song, how lifeless Jim's eyes are, omg.

Grand Poète . Chapeau bas Monsieur ..
It's a big drag that Ray has passed on, but at least we still have recordings with him like this to enjoy.
Why Jim Morrison was the important one lolz
@@carpal08Ray was “The Doors” he’s the backbone of the band.
I remember when this was originally broadcast. Looking at it now you can see his spirit has been broken. So sad. They sound great though.
Got to love Jim Morrison, although he is seriously wasted in this video!
Love this Song, thanks for sharing this video.

True, well actually he hadn't turned 26 yet as his turned 26 in December of 69,but I feel what you are saying. He looked well beyond his mid 20s here.

Wow how fucking cool you are....
love this version way better then the others
This is a cover of a song made in 1927. I think Jim heard it on a old record and wanted to cover it.
What a cool accidental efect at sec 33, the distortion of the audio gives an ohhh yeah answer to Jim´s sugetion...it is not casuality, is causality
