Awesome.... You will never be SKUNKED making plans like that..... For sure you've got those crappie name already...... Great plan of attack...... Checking those different depths for sure is the way to go.....I had to do it this past w-end with this cold snap... It backed the crappie up a bit..... My chant this w-end was So Close Yet So Far Away.....A lot of trips end up that way without taking water temp into consideration..... Those crappie are finicky...... Thanks for the S/O....
Hello Sir, Careful out on the water, specially on the way to GR10. Lot of Tree stumps and fallen trees washed down from the river. Also water full of debris . . Can cause motor to over heat if it block the water jets.
Thanks for the post Dan. I'm hoping we kill them on GR1 and not have to go up stream :), but we'll definitely be careful if we go up river. Appreciate your concern and information, Tim
Nice and informative video! Never knew that the park has built crappie housing in the lake and made it available online. I miss the crappie schools in texas so much
@@skunkedagain wheres can I get the picture report. I would love to figure Canyon out. Its the closest lake to me but I have a tough time catching crappie and whitebass.
Great video Tim. I've fished Granger some in the kayak mainly for catfish. I know you know this but be careful if you go back to GR10. Bascially from GR9 all the way into the creek is flooded timber. You could run on plane only if you know the area like the back of your hand. Lots of stumps. Also the TPWD brush pile 4 is a popular spot. If you're there on the weekend you'll probably need to get there before daylight to get that spot.
Jerry Krabe thanks Jerry. I’ll skip it if others are there. I figured hidden stumps would be my nemesis. Thanks for the caution, I’ll follow your advice. Hopefully I catch tons before having to go past GR9. Tim
Your Videos are Excellent and informative hover I have a question for you sir. How would you strategize and break down a smaller lake with no river channel running through it.
not to be negative, but pm me if you want to know why and how that lake got ruined for crappie. also, the crappie in the main lake vacate into the river in winter, there is not deep enough water for the baitfish to survive in the main lake, , so almost EVERYTHING goes into the river. with all of the baitfish and crappie together in the river, the crappie can feed at will.. feed window is short and fast, alot of times occurs at night. if u miss the feed window, u wont catch much. many go build fires along the bank and fish at night and do ok in the river.. dont waste your time in the main lake. they arent there until it warms some, around march, april. main lake gets small very fast, lots of shallow areas where u wouldnt think its shallow.
wow, great insight. That's the kind of stuff one wouldn't know fishing it once, or even 10 times. Sounds like years of experience. With Livescope, I won't waste anytime: get onto a pile, we can see if there's fish on it. If not, we move on. If there is, we'll see how they react to baits, if they don't show interest, we'll try different sizes, colors, etc... If no interest, we'll also move on, and work our way up the river as you suggested. the shallow comment is noted, thanks for that! Tim
@@skunkedagain that lake has ALOT of undersized fish due to intense fishing pressure . at one time there were 3 guides on that small lake.. how they ruined it, for others, not themselves, is they put out WAY, WAY , WAY too many " personal piles" that are very hard to find, that will hold one fish, maybe 2 fish,, so the guide may take his clients to 75 different " personal piles" to harvest 20 decent fish.,, if that lake were drained it would look like a cane field. they ruined it by scattering the fish too much and overharvest the 10 inch and above fish. if you find an active school in the river, u may do okay, but when spring comes into summer and they move back into the main lake, your going to have to fish ALOT of spots to get a decent catch.,., and dont expect to catch more than a few here and there.., your not going to sit one one spot and clean up, they are just to scattered,, 1/16 oz red/chart/ black jigs, orange and black, work in that muddy water. gold and orange, gold and black too.
theres a deep hole near the bank opposite fox park, but the crappie dont stay there in winter, other than the deep hole, theres not much water 25 feet or deeper in that lake.. the shad cant survive,, the shallow muddy water in the creeks warm faster, and the shad can survive, and the crappie, white bass, and everything else follow, happens every year.. if I was going to try this time of year, I would go find bends in the river, and look for slightly deeper cuts in the channel with cover. find the shad, find the fish, find the feed window, catch the fish. dont be afraid to try fishing EXREMELY shallow either, bring a 10 foot jig pole and try jigging really shallow, like a foot of water shallow. look for birds too..
you will find that most lakes in texas, that dont have deep water, 28 feet or deeper, AND have a shallow creek or river access, the crappie will mostly go in the creeks and river in winter..lakes that have a deep river channel, the crappie will stay there with schools of shad all winter, then migrate to the rivers to spawn late winter early spring.
@@skunkedagain yes, I know the lake very well, and consider myself an authority on crappie fishing. decades of time on the water chasing these fascinating, sometimes humbling creatures around lakes from oklahoma to louisiana but mostly in central texas.
I live right next to it you can see my house on the map actually and ya it is a very shalllow lake and there is a lot of stumps and trees there is a whole bunch of crappie in this lake I got 103 the other day
@@robertchaney5480 That fly fishing stuff is for the "high" class fishermen :) you should show me how to fish the shallows the next time we're down there the same time. I have a tunnel hull BW I bought for down there, but I doubt it goes as shallow as yours. Tim

Awesome, once again , I hope you get into them, and watch out for stumps , I heard there's a lot of them in that lake!
Thanks Steven. People are telling me the same. I get nervous around stumps, so it'll definitely be slow time!

I did not realize but several places you outlined was where Tommy Tidwell took us.
Well, that’s gonna put us in good company.
Great analysis!

Horace Lee look for two other elements , points and creek branches. Or other irregular contours. Best of luck, Tim
Man this is awesome, what's the name of the site with this info? TPWD?
Yes, towed brushpiles is what I think I googled. Tim
Crappie are thick in this lake!
Supposedly one of the top 10 in the state.
What tackle/ bait is best to be most successful for crappie at this lake?
@@justinmtch we were using minnows here, and had success. Others do jigs, but I've not used them here. good luck
can u give an update, how did it go?
2 yrs ago.... i think it was ok. I don't particularly like Granger (too far for me), so haven't been back
How did you do at canyon lake ?
