  • "Ditch Dante & Shakespeare? Ditch no, but make room, for sure. Ditch Plato and all them Greeks?, not entirely, no, but criticize & push him/them aside for sure. Ditch Rousseau?, for sure, St Thomas?, you bet (!...), and send to hell pretty much everybody else.
We can do it. A true Renaissance." (Plus talk on "Covid Amnesty"

I'm riveted by 2 things: Guido's caustic and intuitive dismissal of so much that's been proposed as 'sacred canon' in the west, and second, his suggestions for a more appropriate and authentic lineup that can actually form and inform modern man/Christians.
This Sophia University Online project cant come fast enough. We need this regenerated catechesis and cultural canon...

I have been listening to past episodes of the podcast and today I did a "marathon" of Guido Preparata episodes, my favorite being the one on anarchism, though I also enjoyed the one on economics. I feel like I should have paced myself, I have enough Italian friends to be used to Italian bravado and arrogance but maybe not enough to stomach so many hours of it. This episode I have not finished (wondering if I ever will?), I thought I would really enjoy it as I have been considering this topic, but there was a lot of "I don't know much about guy x, but those who do are imbeciles" type things. However, my biggest complaint is his reductionism of the world to power (isn't this exactly what marxists do??). He claims that his education was useless because it didn't provide understanding with the topic he finds to be the only important one. Beautiful language is nice for poets apparently but not for school children. Though in previous episodes he admits that manipulation of language is essential to the System (propaganda, chemical communication, etc), he apparently believes that expending time introducing students to good language and training them in its use is useless beacuse it doesn't directly relate to his current obsession. etc
