Anyone else say that "British guys don't know how to have any fun?" I avoided this game since it launched because of the reviews and now I'm really enjoying it.
I played this game 10 minutes ago. I played it in a console and with friends. It is quite fun, but I still think is shit.Very repetitive, very boring, and no drama. The script is boring as hell. I don't like it, but if you do, great, enjoy it.
This guy is using melee weapons for a hand to hand fighting character (John Morgan). He is playing it all wrong and hence he finds it to be a tedium. This game is as enjoyable as the original.
This guy admitted what his problem was. He said the game takes it self seriously and based his whole review on that. Everything from the graphics, the arcadey damage numbers that pop up, the zombie character design all scream self aware comedy. It’s meant to be a semi-goofy action game where you run around and be a bad ass, he’s looking way too in-depth. This game isn’t trying to be the Witcher of rpgs, it’s the Skyrim, run around and have fun doing shit at face value.
god i hated dead island for so long, even when i got it cheap, i hated it, and myself, feeling i wasted money on a game i cant play. i can only play single player, and everything about it was just against me, the way the game saves, the limit in the inventory, the limit in the stamina and the number of attacks u can make, how hard it was to heal, how hard it was to hit and always getting hit, getting thrashed by the thug, making traveling hard, and the quests requiring you to traverse the hell filled island back and forth, the expensiveness of things and how every weapon requires money for constant use, it just all seemed impossible. but then i gave it some time, i played sam B, focused on melee and getting tough and getting passive healing, learned to manage my money, took the enemy one at a time and kicking them first, got new skills and made zombie slaying a breeze, made 1-2 great weapons and cycling through new ones, now able to travel safely, i finished quests one at a time and completing them before pause exiting/saving to avoid save issues, and now im having the most fun in this game. it just sounds so rewarding killing each zombie, getting to hack off limbs, you just need to keep investing in good weapons. and the world is big, and so interesting, making it more fun with the threat of zombies in every corner. ill probably get riptide after this, fun game, just needs getting used to, definitely worth it.
I like these games! The first was great, I'll be getting the second soon. Definitely got my money's worth out of the first, for sure. For those unsure --- wait for price drop.
I love the mix of RPG and combat in the game. Love the choice of characters and skill tree development. Love the collecting and seeking out of stuff to sell. And I actually love the way the combat works - it's like how resident evil used to feel with it's restrictions in walking and shooting. It's rough and ready and adds to the tension. Can't wait!
even though the first game had its faults, it was my favorite game in years, i think ive completed it about 4 times! so if its much the same as the first one then count me in as i didnt think there was anything wrong with the first tbh
gameplay definitely looks fun, and having not played dead island i might have a good time. i dont care if the story/cutscenes arent too good, if the gameplay is good enough to make up for it i'd say its worth it.
Well I liked the first one and im sure i'll like this one. People complain about the combat but ive noticed that instead of spamming right trigger/r2, changing the controls where you hold left trigger/l2 and use right stick to swing your weapon allows for better aim and control.
Think of it this way, if you buy a sponge and it is the most effective sponge you have ever seen except for one or two issues that they swear they will address in two years with an updated sponge. But after you wait the two years you buy this brand new updated sponge for the same price as the old one and the same problems are still there, you're going to be complaining.
1) The Story ... If you care about it. 2) Slight Bugs 3) Do find it a bit easy (I'm level 70 with a deathstalker Katana and can kill everything without dying) 4) A lot of walking around compared to DI 1 5) Modders (Thats in most games).
Is it just me, or does nearly every game that receives a low-ish rating gets a ton of dislikes? Everybody's opinion differs, and reviews are subjective, so I think we should still give credit to GameSpot for the work they put into these videos that we can view in the first place.
There is a saying "If it ante broke don't fix it" but if some thing is clearly broken it needs to be fixed. Also using Ice cream as a example doesn't work.
Graphics weren't really a big deal to me. I never had a problem with it in the first game. But considering it's taken the exact same combat style of repetitive hack-and-slash with sloppy hit detection doesn't do it justice. The main thing is they had a second chance to make Riptide to what the majority of people really wanted: A really good open-world zombie-themed RPG. Instead, they were stubborn and made a rehashed mediocre version of the first to how THEY wanted it.
Guys guys. Don't get too upset. Just because you enjoy it doesn't necessarily mean everyone (including critics) should enjoy it too. Certain people have their own requires to deem a game 'decent'; and maybe in this circumstance that requirement is WAY different then yours - ie, the bugs might be easily brushed off for the common gamers but can be seen as an incompleted game to the reviewers. Relax. I enjoyed Lollipop Chainsaw, the reviewers didn't - big whoop.
I know this is all your opinion not mine, I personally loved the first dead island which was filled with fetch quests and it was fun! I played thru that game at least 4 times with all the characters! I want dead islands that much more because of a guy like you.
hes hardly destroying it, its his opinion which he is employed to give. The game will still sell, also they know a lot about making games. They review and talk about and play games for a living, they are well aware how much effort goes in to making them. That doesn't make them exempt from criticism
When Red Dead Redemption released it's undead nightmare DLC, that proved to be pretty freaking amazing. So maybe zombie games should stop serious and more like fun little ad ons. I imagine an Undead Nightmare style add on for Far Cry 3 would be incredibly fun
This game isn't about the story it's about the gameplay ,which isn't special, but its fun. It's about upgrading your character and playing with friends and lets not forget ... SAM B
His review was critical and explanatory so one can only assume you're butthurt about it and instead of challenging it, you go directly to the typical assumption that he doesn't like anything that isn't Call of Duty.
Totally agree, I've been playing the first game as well, and I'm really interested in this one. Atleast this game gets zombie slashing done right, and just like the 1st one, this game will also take a melee focus, but also allow players to use guns without being constricted to one class... PLUS you can port your old character over!!
I understand what you are saying but I have to say, for sequels of well, anything, there are certain expectations that need to be met. For example, in the first game it was fun and had lots of potential but it was still littered with bugs. The expectation for this game would be to improve on the things that people liked and fixed the things that they didn't. For Techland to not deliver on these, then it would make sense why the scores are so different.
What i love is that people complain that these guys are payed to give GOOD reviews. Well heres their ACTUAL review and now people are bitching at their opinion.
There's no way i'd even consider getting this game. I got bored with Dead Island 1 within half an hour of playing it, and this looks like there were no changes whatsoever.
Woah woah slow down pal Leveling up does makes a whole lot of diference, for each character it unlocks passive stuff like more damage to cutting/blunt weapons, more defence and stuff but also unlock unique skills for each char. Like most Logan skill tree makes him a mudrerous killing machine by increasing his damage, regeneration and i think even speed, all this while drunk. Sam B becomes a tank in its own right geting agro from zombiens and so on. This game deserves at least a 6 because its fun
Why do you guys watch these videos if you are just going to hate on them!? You came here for a review from Gamespot ad they gave it to you and this is what they think of the game. If you disagree just leave and buy the game! Far out Brussel Sprout.
It takes me 3-4 hits max to kill zombies late in the game, and 1 hit with my shock crowbar... also weapons don't deteriorate that fast, and even if they do that's why you carry multiple weapons with you so you can swap out damaged equipment... later in the game there is also plenty work benches where you can repair all your weapons.
You'd think by now, some developer would have made an open world sandbox game set in a zombie apocolypse, taking ideas from Dead Rising, GTA, Saints Row, Crackdown, Dead Island, Etc etc... Because that game wouldnt sell millions of copies....not at all...
Exactly the same as the first one. If you liked the first, there's a tiny chance you'll like this. (That's assuming you don't get bored of playing a reskin like I did)
Ok he had a more critical opinion, maybe that deserves the hate, but he's just saying it might be repetitive to the casual gamer. He DID say this is really something only the hardcore zombie fans will enjoy because of the way it's crafted.
Admittedly, yes the combat did stay practically the same but it's not about the missions or the leveling up!its a zombie SURVIVAL game it's about u trying to stay alive
he is right! you should learn that in case you're ever in a position where its your word against someone else. unreasonable comments will belittle any true statements. i would've thumbs up ur post if you didn't resort to name calling so i have to for him instead as i agree and like how he put it! and yes the game does not suck!!!!
As a huge dead island fan can't wait for the UK launch. I'm expecting the gameplay to be the same because i loved it. What character would you recommend?
I don't care if it's the same. The last one was good, so the fact the they are similar only means that this one is good too. If you eat chocolate ice cream once and like it, you won't eat some again because it's the same ?
NO SHIT, it's Dead Island 1.5, if anyone was expecting more than that for $40, they're a damn fool. He didn't mention the lower price tag either. The game melee combat is huge fun, just like the first one, that's all that counts, and that's all that matters. I'm really getting sick of these video reviewers that are expecting the world from games that don't promise it in the first place. And it's not like there is anything similar to the game. The combat is far better than the reviewer stated.
everybody knows that these Dead Island games are not as good, but we're still going to play the hell out of it. because there aren't many other games like it.
Good I'm glad Gamespot gave this game the review it deserves! Because everything he said is spot on (maybe he was a little over dramatic about the characters they aren't that bad) but the gameplay is tedious, and the game is littered with overly frustrating fetch quests! And the level ups don't even make you feel more powerful since the zombies level up with you anyway, it was a poorly designed game that deserves a poor rating.
He definitely failed to mention that eventhough he thought the game sucked, if u liked the original game, you'll like this. I love zombie killing games. I'm still utterly addicted to the original game. Im sure I'll lover this game. Damn no love at all. And people wonder why games overall aren't selling very well nowadays
think it's because they didn't make the graphics better, the voice acting better, and etc. They didn't fix the problems of the original. You have to admit, it seemed like they copy and pasted from the last year, and add some new things. Not saying the game is bad, but it could have been SO much better
The issue isn't that everybody has their own opinion, it's that this person seemed bias, even though this is supposed to be a Gamespot review, not the opinion of one person...
Guys there is not much of a difference from the first game bit this game is really good and tunes of fun don't let videos like this discourage your fun
If you enjoyed the first one, chances are that you'll enjoy this one. It's an extremely similar game, but that didn't bother me because I like the gameplay.
i like this review, some people tolerate small to no changes to a game and some others (like the reviewer and myself) clearly dont. it is harsh though because both of the games are good. its all opinions...
If your a zombie fan, or your a borderlands fan or you just like dead island in general this is a better game than the first one hands down. dead island riptide diffidently does not deserve that score at all. Look all the other websites for the reviews.
i love this game cause i grew up with cheesy horror and still do to this day. the part about the repetitive i dont understands arent all games nowadays repetitive like cod and that sold well.
I love seeing all these people getting pissy at the guy, when he is right. It's just another zombie shooter and is the same as every other. I'd love to see a zombie game which makes you try to survive, not just shooting lots of zombie heads.
4.0 - that is harsh - the first one was fun, this looks the same so i understand the point of view. More story line needed, better voice acting and improved game play mechanics but i reckon this will be fun too
i cant wait to see the true dead island seq come to next gen consoles... id love to see it move to a major city with bit of country side, more vehcles and have a more serious tone like that great orig cgi trailer
Why? It's not worth the money if you don't get anything new (one new character? New weapons? New "Story"? - That's an AddOn for me...). Thanks to this review i saved my money and can spend it otherwise better.
Gamesradar and slasherjpc love the game. Its getting mixed reviews because these people wanted more variety in the game. Deep silver even said that its pretty much going to be the first one just another island with better match making for your friends. This guy obviously played by himself the whole game. This game is made for co op. Its like getting borderlands and playing by yourself its not nearly as good but you get two or three friends or just some random and the game shines.
Well I liked the first one my only complaint with the first one and one that I would take advantage of too is when your on top of a car the zombies don't bother climbing on top
how can some people love FallOut(which I do, its not in my top ten, but I enjoyed it). The similatities between the two go on and on, except this has WAYYYY better graphics and moves fast. You are an errand boy, but I found it fun just as I did the first one. I love the beautiful open world and freedom to go wherever (for the most part) If you liked the first one, you wil enjoy this and is a must own. If you dont own the first one, get it first for it makes a HUGE difference in you player.
Dead Island is like Left 4 Dead but with better graphics and more of a story, plot, and sure as hell missions and im okay with that because Left 4 Dead was a boss in its prime. Even to this day Dead Island regardless of any big time reviewer is one of the best zombie based video games.
The reviewer was not objective in his review of the game. He was supposed to cover the good aspects of the game and the bad ones as well. I cannot believe that this game does not have good points at all. The negative attitude of the reviewer towards the game leads me to believe that he did not get any payment from the publishers and the makers of this game to talk about it so he is dissing it out of spite... Is this the logic of all the reviewers in GameSpot: Pay me or I diss your game?!!!
I agree with you, but that doesn't mean the games downright bad, it's average at best! And yeah, It's insulting that all they did was take Dead Island 1 and just changed the island and added a character. I'll stick with borderlands or dead rising myself haha
Most of the zombies just charge at you? Uh, YEAH, there "zombies!" For god's sake.
They shouldn't let a guy who dosen't like zombies review a zombie game
this review is poor
Anyone else say that "British guys don't know how to have any fun?" I avoided this game since it launched because of the reviews and now I'm really enjoying it.
Anyone know the music playing in the background?
I played this game 10 minutes ago. I played it in a console and with friends. It is quite fun, but I still think is shit.Very repetitive, very boring, and no drama. The script is boring as hell. I don't like it, but if you do, great, enjoy it.
This guy is using melee weapons for a hand to hand fighting character (John Morgan).
He is playing it all wrong and hence he finds it to be a tedium.
This game is as enjoyable as the original.
This review got it spot on. I didn't even finish the game, as it was so tedious
I have to say, this is the best review that I've seen on Gamestop's RUclips channel. Because they're telling it how it is.
"this game has fetch quests" so does skyrim and that vot 10/10

how did this game get the same score as the bad walking dead game? this game is way more fun to play!
I'm bad at zombie games but I have completed it 10 times and it is still fun.
Really sad that this series didn't work out. I loved the trailers for it
even though the first game had its faults, it was my favorite game in years, i think ive completed it about 4 times! so if its much the same as the first one then count me in as i didnt think there was anything wrong with the first tbh

0:06
Dialogue: "BLOODY HELL IT'S A ROCK"
Subtitles: "is that a rock"
Brilliant.
Developer: Ahhhhhhh no.1 was good
Copy game files;Add quests and new characters
Developer: good enough
Well I liked the first one and im sure i'll like this one. People complain about the combat but ive noticed that instead of spamming right trigger/r2, changing the controls where you hold left trigger/l2 and use right stick to swing your weapon allows for better aim and control.

Never expected for a game like this to have a low score. Then again, it's a sequel.
Brett thing... Weapons are more durable and guns and ammo are more common. Plus defense mode, this is a good buy for the price!
hes hardly destroying it, its his opinion which he is employed to give. The game will still sell, also they know a lot about making games. They review and talk about and play games for a living, they are well aware how much effort goes in to making them. That doesn't make them exempt from criticism

Really Robert.... its his job to review the game and give his honest opinion besides you can't always review games you like.
I understand what you are saying but I have to say, for sequels of well, anything, there are certain expectations that need to be met. For example, in the first game it was fun and had lots of potential but it was still littered with bugs.

What's the name of the song playing throughout the vid
alien colonial marines has a GOTY contender
You'd think by now, some developer would have made an open world sandbox game set in a zombie apocolypse, taking ideas from Dead Rising, GTA, Saints Row, Crackdown, Dead Island, Etc etc...
Because that game wouldnt sell millions of copies....not at all...
Exactly the same as the first one. If you liked the first, there's a tiny chance you'll like this. (That's assuming you don't get bored of playing a reskin like I did)
Ok he had a more critical opinion, maybe that deserves the hate, but he's just saying it might be repetitive to the casual gamer. He DID say this is really something only the hardcore zombie fans will enjoy because of the way it's crafted.

and yes the game does not suck!!!!
Nobody that hated Dead Island as much as this guy should be allowed to share their opinion on this game, even if it *is* youtube....
This game is good and the more people the better. Don't let others make your decision.
I think IGN's review was ironically more balanced, they said if u like the old one you will like this one
As a huge dead island fan can't wait for the UK launch. I'm expecting the gameplay to be the same because i loved it. What character would you recommend?
I don't care if it's the same. The last one was good, so the fact the they are similar only means that this one is good too. If you eat chocolate ice cream once and like it, you won't eat some again because it's the same ?
this guy is wrong this is my favorite zombie game ever,i looove it!
Thank you GameSpot for spoiling the start.
Dont knock it till you try it, thats all i can say, i thought it was going to be terrible until i played it. now i really enjoy it.
NO SHIT, it's Dead Island 1.5, if anyone was expecting more than that for $40, they're a damn fool.

Just like how Treyarch and Infinity Ward have two years to make a new COD, yet they change so little and call it a game.
At least you didn't bash me for not wanting this game. But I had canceled my pre order 2 weeks before I watched this review.
everybody knows that these Dead Island games are not as good, but we're still going to play the hell out of it. because there aren't many other games like it.

quite a bit. Its way more realistic and is more survival horror than the games you mentioned. The lack of firearms makes Dead Island scary
Guys there is not much of a difference from the first game bit this game is really good and tunes of fun don't let videos like this discourage your fun
This review gives the game EXACTLY what it deserves.
If you enjoyed the first one, chances are that you'll enjoy this one.
It's an extremely similar game, but that didn't bother me because I like the gameplay.
WHY ALL THE HATE sure its not the best zombie game but its a game that you can drop in on after a hard day and just smash some zombies heads in.
i like this review, some people tolerate small to no changes to a game and some others (like the reviewer and myself) clearly dont. it is harsh though because both of the games are good. its all opinions...
The first dead island was debatable as a good or bad game but this sealed the deal, R.I.P Dead Island ( you will not be missed
I like the way the zombie hit him, sending him backwards...awesome...first time do I see such game...they should have more of it
I love seeing all these people getting pissy at the guy, when he is right. It's just another zombie shooter and is the same as every other. I'd love to see a zombie game which makes you try to survive, not just shooting lots of zombie heads.
Damn that ship captain isn't a zombie! How many shotgun blasts does it take to destroy a decaying corpse?! wtf........
welcome to the internet my friend
I'm hear because of the Steam sale...
4.0 - that is harsh - the first one was fun, this looks the same so i understand the point of view. More story line needed, better voice acting and improved game play mechanics but i reckon this will be fun too
every year? from every game?
Well then I guess I should check myself into a mental hospital.
i cant wait to see the true dead island seq come to next gen consoles... id love to see it move to a major city with bit of country side, more vehcles and have a more serious tone like that great orig cgi trailer
A review is supposed to bias. It is an opinion. Play the game yourself and ignore the review if you don't agree with it.
true but this is one dlc for 40 and my impression of the game is either you like it or you absolutely hate it.
how can some people love FallOut(which I do, its not in my top ten, but I enjoyed it).
Backed the wrong horse, feeling the consequences.
they said if they were to release it as a dlc it wouldve been WAY smaller
Your not the only one. It depends on the game and the franchise it comes from for me.
I don't care about story in dead Island, I just want dismember zombies with kickass lighting swords and jug energy drinks. Is that too much to ask?
Skyrim had a great story...? It was literally 'go kill a dragon'. That's the most clichéd fantasy plot ever imagined.
I agree with you, but that doesn't mean the games downright bad, it's average at best! And yeah, It's insulting that all they did was take Dead Island 1 and just changed the island and added a character.
I'll stick with borderlands or dead rising myself haha
Hes such a good reviewer that he didnt even know that its not banoi now it peleia (or something like that)
