We are reaching 1000 likes here. It's amazing..! After all the years, people still listen to this record every day.
So... If you are the one who give the like n.1000, let me know. I have a little surprise for you. (Either write a comment here or find my mail in the info-panel and write me there!)

@@monikabecker4023 Hello and thank you for the like n.1000 and for letting me know. My little surprise? - If there is a piece you would like hear, let me know and I will do my best to learn it / record it. It can be - basically - whatever you want.
If you could stay away of "kitchy" overplayed pieces like "Nuvole Bianche" by Einaudi (I do NOT like music of this man) and also, please do not go for some extremes like Scriabin Piano Sonata (that would take me too much time / effort). So, somewhere in the middle of this...? :)
Well... pick something and I will see. I am curious. :)

@ What a really nice surprise, Dusan! So, do you like the music of John Williams? I do, especially the film score of Steven Spielberg's "Schindler´s List" or my second choice would be "Chi Mai"of the film "The Professional" composed by Ennio Morricone. Now, I am curious, what you will choose. Thank you very much!

Message to all those who ask(ed) me for "more Glass". I just started preparing his Piano Etudes. At the moment, I am learning the Book 1 - first 10 etudes. The Book 2 will follow right after.
My plan is to perform it, same as to record it...

Mělo jich samozřejmě bejt mnohem víc, ale to už my tady nezměníme.

I'm in my 3rd year of piano. Started learning at 29 y/o. Couldn't even read a note before that. I'm so glad I stuck with it every day 30min-1hour, I managed to play "Mad Rush" within a month in October this year. I love Philip Glass! "The Hours" seems a bit more complicated but since I've already done the "3 on 2" rythm (Mad Rush) I'm ready ahah. So relaxing after a work day... Etude n°6 is my all tim favorite but oh very hard... xD

    •  2 года назад

Learning piano is a "long-term" process... But if you don't give up, it brings more and more joy as you learn more and more. There are many moments when you say "this is impossible" - some beginners struggle just playing 2 different things with 2 hands... But once it "clicks", you don't have to think about that any more. Your example - 2to3 or 3to2.... For a beginner, difficult thing to do but after a while, it becomes "fully automated" so much that you stop thinking about that.
When I was a kid and I listened to piano masters playing all these concertos with orchestras, great records etc., I asked myself many times "how... how this is even possible"....
Today - I can't stand most of these records and I am "bored" with them.. :D
Anyway - good luck and I wish you have more and more fun with piano. Take care!
(btw. Glass etudes book 1 is on my profile. Played it not long ago... Book 2, I will add somewhere soonish...)

    • @G91YS
      @G91YS 2 года назад

@ Thanks for your answer! Yes, indeed, one at a time, every difficulty seems to "click" itself. That's great. I would have never have thought I could play the pieces I play now back in 2019... I like playing even more than before 🙂

Amazing. Beautiful tone from the piano, you've clearly played it a long time. Bravo

In 2014 (when I uploaded this video), it was already over 25 years of me sitting behind the piano. "The Hours" run quickly... unstoppably. Now I'm reaching 31st year of playing.
      Thanks for your comment.

You’re fantastic! I’ve been working on this song, and must say...it is not easy! Love the emotion you captured. There’s nothing worse than when I hear Glass played mechanically. WELL DONE!

I remember playing that at a recital. Fun piece. The biggest challenge is playing it from memory.

Interesting rendition, you play it much slower than me in the first half. Perhaps I should try doing that, because the fast sequence of right-hand notes at 3:30 come out all muddy. Despite having played piano on and off for 10 years it's still really hard to make each note sound distinct in that sequence even when played at your tempo. Anyway, I digress. Great job!

Hi Dusan. Thank you for sharing this beautiful, moving, amazing rendition for this piece. I have plans to play it. Hope you don't mind but I liked to use your interpretation as a basis for myself. Best regards.

Hi... I definitely don´t mind at all. I am happy that my record brings you an inspiration. Good luck and have fun with the piece. D.

    Magnificent performance!
I also noticed one this: Heifetz used to have his piano standing just like this: His back to the wall and window at the left. Is there something special about this kind of grand piano positioning?

    •  10 лет назад

Thank you my friend, but unfortunately that is not my place.. It is a little "garden house" which I've been using within last year sometimes to practice.. Right now, I am like dog on the street.. If I wanna touch piano, I have to bother somebody always. My own piano is sleeping in my previous flat in Prague where I don't live for 5 and half years already.. I am trying to change this, I can't be the only pianist int he world who doesn't have a piano.. But here in Holland, it sucks - in the flat which I can afford, no way to practice piano (neighbours, paper walls etc..) ... and houses where you could practice "full noise", I cannot afford unfortunately.. moneymoneymoney.. you know..
About the position of piano, I do not really know.. I just remember that sometimes, I got a bit scared while playing, when I turned to that window nd saw a black cat staring at me and hypnotizing me.. :) was really lovely there.. specially during raining.. there is a roof window where you see all the drops.., it's windy, stormy around, but you are in warm with extremely nice piano.. (I love the instrument.. very old, but charming and in great - original shape.. As I observed, probably there has not been even one string changed.. They all look original, and I have been using the piano for one year + - without necessity to be tuned.. (banging Prokofiev no. 3 concerto, Ravel concerto etc.. ;) really, unique)
      Thanks one more time..

Dušan Holý Oh, sad to hear that! I live in a flat myself and I can't afford having a real piano so I use my synth Casio CDP 100 with heavy keys (its not a real grand piano, but I can adjust the loudness or us headphones when I don't want to bother anyone) if real piano is hard to afford, you can definitely look for these things. The best about them is that you can always plug it to computer via midi cable and record every melody you come up with. You've got to have at least some instrument to practice on, as a guitarist who's getting older right now I can't even imagine what would happen if I'll take long pauses between my practice sessions. My hands just forget how to play (and Im not even speaking of the speed, which requires way more attentive practicing)
Hope it will get better in your life, sir! You are a hell of a performer!
And thanks for The Hours composition, I've never heard it before!

***** Thanks for supportive words.. Well, in my place I have old Master keyboard FATAR which my father bought like 20 years ago for me (naive that I will be praciticing in the evenings on it).. It has kind of "hammer" mechanics, and of course I can easily connect it to "Steinway Grand Piano" in Logic, but you know.. That's really for reading some notes or so, but it doesn't inspire me so much like that piece of wood with some strings and hammers on it.. About practicing, it's fine.. I am familiar with this "dog-lifestyle" and if I don't touch the piano for week(s), I can easily "move" my hands right after.. It takes one two days..Of course, worse would be, if there is something important planned.. But not for now. And I am trying to do something with that (move to other - proper house and so.. all about money of course..)

Dusan, just wanted to say I've listened to all the recordings of The Hours on RUclips and this is by far my favorite one and I listen to it often. The energy you put behind this song is amazing. Do you play any other songs from the soundtrack?

    •  7 лет назад

Thank you for your comment, much appreciated. I never played any other piece from that soundtrack. This version was included in one "mixed pieces book - best of..." which I bought for one of my student.

It's written in the info. This is app 100 years old Feurig piano. Very nice instrument. I used to practice on it time to time, couple years ago.

i think you lost an string at 4:17 ;)

    •  9 лет назад

***** Definitely not.. It's just a noise from the pedal which is very light..
This piano is 100 years old, and I think there are all the string original. - they all have the same "dust&dirt" colour.. (piano has not been played much for long long period..) Anyway - not necessary to worry about the instrument.. I have been using this instrument +- for one year, practicing Prokofiev 3rd concerto, Ravel concerto and stuff like this, and piano has survived without any "injury"...

    •  5 месяцев назад

This video is like 10+ years old and the piano wasn't mine. It was a garden house of one elderly couple where I could practice piano a few times in a week.
Who knows if they are still alive and who knows what happened to the piano.

I'm waiting for Philip Glass, The Minutes... it should be shorter. Not everything Glass wrote is fabulous, -as for Mozart.... Mozart himself was not always inspired.

    •  Месяц назад +1

Did you know this is a compilation from the movie soundtrack? It's not a "piece" for a piano.

  •  2 года назад

You have to optimize the rhythm, pulse, accents, and accentuations. There's no sense of the rhythm, you lost timing at 4:25.

    •  2 года назад +3

Yes... Rhythm was always a problem for me. I struggle pretty much with keeping a good rhythm. But I will work on it, I promise. Thanks for your advice!
