Hans Zimmer - Interstellar - Main Theme
Piano Version by Patrik Pietschmann
Hi, my name is Patrik Pietschmann, I'm a keyboard player, arranger and hobby programmer from Germany. Since I am a huge fan of Hans Zimmer, I did an arrangement of his Main Theme from the "Interstellar" soundtrack. In this video I have tried to combine my live piano playing with the visualization of the music material by programming my own "Synthesia"-like software.
Please subscribe to my channel if you like the video! :-)
You can now STREAM or DOWNLOAD this track on all major music services, such as Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, Apple Music, Amazon, Deezer, Tidal, etc. Here's the link: lnk.to/J1YYkH

Pat, this is prolly my 1000th time watching this video and I'm glad I did it. Wouldn't have known about your music being in spotify without it.
Your honest average fan 😊
why is the sheet music different to this video the way you play it ? at 2:16 the left hand notes are different to the sheet. Im trying to learn it but it doesn't sound right
Did you know that Hans Zimmer wrote this piece after reading only one page of the script, where Cooper says goodbye to Murph? He didn’t know the genre or the story anything. He just made something incredibly heartfelt about a promise from a father to his daughter, and in that he managed to capture so much more.
After showing this to Christopher Nolan his response was “well I better go make the movie then”
I just recently found this out myself. ….SMH….INCREDIBLE!!!! Or maybe better said….EUREKA!!!!!
It was actually a hypothesized son, not a daughter. Zimmer wrote the original score thinking about his own son. He talks about it in the BTS on the original soundtrack.
In his masterclass series he said nolan said about a son and a daughter connection. Hans thought about his son when he wrote the original melody
I recently came across that story. Just goes to show how monumentally talented Zimmer is. Once in a generational talent.

Well this is pretty simple and kinda boring piece besides the chorus or whatever it's called, part which is good, but overally it's not very special, because it had lot of arps ( those changing repeating notes) but I am not pianist
3 years ago i started playing piano because of this song, to be more specific, this exact video.. Today i can finally say that i can play 100% of this song, thank you Patrik!
Dude i started today, only having done right hand .... it took me 30 minutes to just get set on the first 50 seconds only on the right hand. This is gonna take forever, Kudos for reaching that far and learning piano from scratch and acomplishing this goal dude!!
Today, at 46 years old, I am finally going to start learning because of this piece. I have incredibly long fingers, have always been interested, but just never committed. Now is the time. Before arthritis sets in and takes over, lol.
Dopeness!!
I started learning piano when I was 12 and when I found this video I practiced for years on my family piano until I finally got it right. Sadly now my brain is so fried I can’t hit the notes. It’s really sad

It's 4:58 AM in the morning. Couldn't sleep. So, here's to a stranger talking about her life.
Interstellar has been a life changing movie for myself. I remember I watched it when I was 16, on my own in the cinema. I had no friends during my school years to friendly explain how amazing this movie was because they perceived me as a weirdo who want to watch and dedicate 3 hours 'confusing' movie.
The soundtrack--First Step by Hans Zimmer, has been one of many things I played on my phone until this very day. When I found this video, I couldn't stop playing this soundtrack on all of my music platforms for, I think, more than a year now since the pandemic started.
It's because of this video too that I decided to buy a piano exactly the same as yours a month ago to learn. Not for anyone, but for myself as a goal. I tried to merge my work schedule while learning this piece to always keep going with my life and days that feels like torture with my depression.
I am on the 3 out of 7 pages of your music sheet today. There are some spots that are still tough for someone who never touched a piano before, but I am very determined.
It's like, whenever I played this video on my earphone or my speaker, my mind is at ease.
It's just me, and the infinite time of darkness and space.
I played guitar all my teenage years, becoming an adult with this music makes me able to cope with my piano, at least for a while.
Thank you.
I will let you know when I am done learning this. It should be soon, hopefully.
"It's just me, and the infinite time of darkness and space" - That's what I exactly feel every time I listen to this music. Thank you and wish you luck. I'm sure that you can learn to play this song. I believe you bro 👍👍

Exact same feelings, thanks for putting it in words more effectively 👌🙏
Had the privilege of seeing this performed live by Hans himself. It was incredibly moving, and once the song finished, all 22,000 people in the crowd sat dead silent, all you could hear was the air-conditioning, with the crowd finally erupting in applause when he stood and bowed.

For everyone trying to learn. I started playing piano 3 months ago with the sole goal of learning this, It’s all straight forward up to arpeggios, once you get there play it super slow, 1 note every 3 seconds if you have to, but in time you will get it normal speed and even faster, I played the arpeggios everyday for 3 months and I can thankfully say after about 20,000 runs of the arpeggios I can FINALLY PLAY THIS, the ending arpeggios took a solid 2 weeks to learn, practicing everyday for 2-3 hours.
Starting from scratch never playing piano (played guitar hero expert through the fire and flames and got 93% so was good with finger scales). PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE AND YOU WILL GET IT. BEST OF LUCK HOPE THIS INSPIRES.
Jonny Sua I couldn’t relate to a comment more. Started young with guitar hero! Helped me discover that I have perfect pitch and I was able to adapt to a lot of instruments right away. I was younger and always played fire and flames and when I beat it I wanted to make the music become real.

To any amateur who wants to learn this: *DO IT*
I've learned this in about 2 months, 3 months to play it smoothly, no piano experience, cant read sheets, about 2h every other day. The part at 2:39 might look scary at first, but after a day or 2 (about 6h total) you will get it into muscle memory and play it without needing to look at your left hand at all.
This is motivational to read. How did you start off exactly? Can you make a video of yourself playing it? I've been listening to this since it released and been dieing to learn
Did you learn it from this video or did you use a different tutorial?

I understand people all the credits to Hans Zimmer, obviously he's an AMAZING composer, but we have to thank Patrik Pietschman too for a FANTASTIC arrangement. Great job both of you guys!
Zimmer's orchestrations of his material are so heavily layered and produced that it is often hard to identify and enjoy the underlying arrangement. Pietschmann helps us see and appreciate it, and supplies his own emphases in the process.
*and then you discover Kyle Landry.

If earth was a movie who is the director ?
I have been listening to this masterpiece for a couple of years now. It relaxes & refreshes my mind every time I listen.
And to think Hans Zimmer came up with most of these notes within one day, after reading a 1 page script Chris Nolan had given him about a father leaving his daughter and assuming it was gonna be a family drama...only to be told that it was for a space-exploration science fiction movie.
ALL HAIL HANS ZIMMER!
Funny part is that in the script Nolan had given him, it was actually a son. If i remember right i think it was to make Hans think about his own relationship with his son.
Movie composers are fucking geniuses, and Hans Zimmer is by far my favorite. Any movie that has Hans Zimmer's work is always worth watching purely for the emotion. He's one of the reasons why Interstellar is my favorite movie of all time.
Dunkaccino25 Me too that is also the reason the movie is my favourite 😀😀

Do you know how you realize music feels? When you hear things like this and you feel a knot in your chest and you don't know why? A 5 min video can take you many places if it is as well played as this. I am in the process of wanting to start or not and these videos only motivate me

Hahahhaah
They said it was boring, they said it was too long, they even said that it was science fiction. But damn, this movie will still be the best one on my list for a darn long time, its just so truthful, mysterious, startling and (to our current knowledge) scientifically correct.
I didn't like the movie but the music is amazing.
My favorite movie for sure
Jagaba, watch 2001 a space odyssey. Then watch videos about how interstellar is just like it. Try to understand that this isn’t Star Trek, but a deep movie with love, emotions, science all together. It’s not an adventure in space. It’s an adventure in life. The music is a tool that conveys something more than any words can. It’s dramatic, soft, long, short. Not to be a snob about how good this movie is, but I think it’s the best on my list of emotionally moving films. Nothing else so far has even come close.
Can someone prove that love transcends time and space? Thanks.
It really isn't that much scientifically correct but the story it wants to tell and how it tells it is marvelous

Because it's connected to the (good) memories you have of that movie, it's a bit like nostalgia
“We've always defined ourselves by the ability to overcome the impossible. And we count these moments. These moments when we dare to aim higher, to break barriers, to reach for the stars, to make the unknown known. We count these moments as our proudest achievements. But we lost all that. Or perhaps we've just forgotten that we are still pioneers. And we've barely begun. And that our greatest accomplishments cannot be behind us, because our destiny lies above us.”

who said that?
because despite all our flaws and limitations ... we humans are capable of greatness ... it will not be us who will colonise the worlds of Alpha Centauri and the other nearby starsystems in our Interstellar Arks ... it will be a race very much like us but with more of out strenghts and fewer of our weaknesses the simple passing of so many generations will have changed us ... for the better... but we will forever know that all the humans in the whole universe came from Earth

Seriously, how can someone dislike this video?
Flat Earthers, people who want to kill themselves at the moment, crying from the beauty of the song, and other people who just don't like the song.
But hey, that's the internet for you... linking people of all sorts.
fission035 people who thought the dislike button was dis I like
LMFAO! hahaha
Just because someone clicks the "dislike" button doesn't necessarily mean they didn't like the video.
Some people are realists and understand that RUclips's recommendations work based off of not only what you view, but also what you like/dislike.
So, if someone doesn't want to have these piano videos in their feed, they hit the dislike button. Even if they don't necessarily dislike the video.
I think that's a wrong interpretation of the button's function.
"Dislike" the video = you don't like the video's content ... (duh)
If you simply don't like the recommendation, there's the appropriate button for that:
RUclips homepage -> Recommended videos -> 3 dots besides video's title -> "Not interested".

woudnt say its better than inception but still a great movie
Lol.. No. It's good but Inception is class apart. Maybe movie of the decade so far
Not that hard.
I just finished learning this by heart and I literally play it any remote second I feel overwhelmed, only to feel emotionally healed by the end.
Also, I have about 5 years of basic piano training and hadn’t touched the instrument in over a decade. But with rigorous practice and self-marking, I was able to nail it in about 4 months so trust yourself if you want to play it! So satisfying at the end to whip this out whenever you want!
The scale patterns are pretty linear (and being in C major helps) so if you can find someone to help you mark the notes/fingerings, especially from 2:30 on, you can perfect this piece with self study
This makes me want to learn piano
Reem Nahar the piano sounds so beautiful with songs like these!
piano is amazing!!!! i play it since i was 4
If you want to learn something, don't hold back. I am a pretty reserved person when it comes to emotions, and It helped me express those emotions. It helped me observe a side of myself I didn't know was there and there is a beauty in that. Real music is about emotion, you can feel it, It stops your everyday grind and gives you something so innocent and beautiful that you just take that second to take it all in.
