  • I went out during the last weekend of September to catch the Beach Train on its last weekend. I was hoping ex. Santa Fe CF7 2600 would be the power and what do you know I was right. And to top that off 2600 had a temporary horn, which was her sister 2641's RS3L. I rode the Beach Train to Santa Cruz and then caught it in 3 locations on the way back up to Roaring Camp. Once we got up there I realized Roaring Camp was running a second section, and since the #7 is down getting her axles replaced, that meant that with Dixiana Shay #1 as the first section, ex. West Side Lumber Co. Heisler #3, a.k.a, Roaring Camp Heisler #2, the Tuolumne, would be running the second section. All these trains provided some amazing photography for the day and being able to see so many trains in one day is something you can only get at Roaring Camp. Overall it was a great day to photograph trains and soon the Beach Train will run again with the Holiday Lights Train. Wait, they repaired 2641's horn? Then stick it back on! That K5LA 2641 has always gets out of tune.

Yes they did. As I understand the Standard Gauge supervisor wants the engines to sound different. I don't understand why but it isnt in my control.

Kinda figured about the "wanting to sound different" thing. I guess 2641 has a K5LA for identification purposes, then.

BNSF1995 I think they could have put something else on though like a P3 or another leslie if that was the case, I mean 2600 and 2641's bells are completely different and if I'm not mistaken, their RS3L's are different variants as well.

Paul Nolan A M5 would be interesting, it's just that the SCBG is constantly retuning their horns and the M series horns don't exactly have the best track record as far as tuning goes. The P3's would ideally be the lowest in cost and in maintenance since it has fixed bells instead of adjustable ones on the M3's and M5's.

Will the 2472 run on this line? I'm gonna be going to Santa Cruz in late July and I really want to see her running!

2472 is not located in Santa Cruz and unfortunately it probably never will be.
