You Guys do an exceptional Job with Audio Systems. You Talked of "Clipping" but I wondered it's Relationship to "Head-Room". HARMONIC DISTORTION is hard to Hear much below 1% which is rare in todays Audio Amps at 0.02% or better. FFT Processing/Measurement Is A Great Way To Find Out What You've Really Got. HOWEVER "AMPLITUDE DISTORTION" CAN BE HEARD OFTEN, ESP W/CLIPPING AND in today's Sound Programs Like D-ATMOS & DTX where LFE Tracks can sometimes Spike up to 80 or more db, S-Woofers can have a Fit. CLIPPING CAN BE A PAIN IN THE AZZ because it can Act As A Square Wave and Produce a Lot of ODD HARMONICS. Keep Those Cards & Letters Coming Guys, refreshing to listen in on Those Who Know What their Talking About.

@1:00 Gene and @1:10 Don... Gentlemen, with all due respect to Your experience and knowledge within the audio industry, not knowing who PowerSoft is just scratches You off of my "to meet" ppl ;)🤣 I've had several PowerSoft Digam 7000 units in early 2000's... We're talking 20 Years ago and upon our first tests and inspection, while looking at the internals, the PCBs were dated 07/1997 !😍
We're talking full resonant mode SMPS, active PFC, Class D output stage with PowerSoft's world best "clip free" limiters...
And that was all in 1U, rated 3500W per channel into 4R
I have to say that Your talk today is a little bit behind the world :) ...about 24 years behind, to be exact 😉

Love the way power measurement is shifting to reflect real world "sound pressure" in a listening situation. The present way leads to wild claims, are not very meaningful in the listening stakes and users often "buy blind".
Distortion and its impact depending on frequency is pretty significant. Same with noise. Standardized measuring is still on the "to do" list.
Good amps should publish the whole shebang of tests. Across the usable spectrum. That way you know what we get. "It sounds great" no longer cuts it.
    Same with clipping!

Few months ago took the plunge and bought a Crown XLS1502 for my B&W'S dm604 S3 and it's amazing how they come alive. Yes I like to play loud, but it needs to be clean and no distortion with lots of dynamics, Crown delivers without sounding harsh There's no way a mid price receiver can drive my speakers on that level full range! Don Dunn is anti Crown. Don't know what model he is referring to, but not all models of amp's are made the same. I would rather use a Crown then a Sony brand amp, or many others. Anti Crown is all I have heard from Don over the last couple videos. I am not a Crown fan boy, but I have heard many brands, and models of amps. Crown amps work great for a Stereo amp or a HT amp. They are bridgeable and you can use multiple in a HT setup. If you need power these are the best choice for the money. They are the best budget amps on the market for the average listener. Some can't afford a Hagel amp. MiniDSP...NanoDigi DSP....and the MiniDSP U-DIO8 are great options for using DSP devices to help create the most powerful Stereo or Multi-Channel audio you can imagine....IMAX in your home! You can use the MiniDSP U-DIO8 and connect it to 4 identical DAC's...or connect 4 NanoDigi's to the MiniDSP U-DIO8 to get 16 channels of lossless audio...want more channels....add miniDSP's to each output of the NanoDigi's outputs.....Now you are talking IMAX at it's best....if you have the funds and know how. CHEERS!

Crown definitely has different grades of amplification. Considering their best stuff powers the JBL M2s, they are definitely good amps.

Question for ya Gene. I'm currently running all klipsch on an older Denon avrx-3000. Looking to upgrade to an avr that has preouts because I really don't wanna drop 3-5k for a pre/pro😢looking to do possibly the new yamaha rx-a6a. Pretty beefy by specs. I was really looking to put some power to my speakers with a monolith 5x. Running rp-280f fronts, Rp504c center, and Rp600m rears. Do those really need the extra power being that they are very efficient? Or will the extra power really bring them to the next level and make them much better? Thanks

I am reposting part of my comment from prior segment as I am wondering the "crest" ? factor and changing output impedance as fucntion of frequency that Anthony Grimani explained might have explained the explanation of what I heard in my amplifiers. For example , despite their similarly flat frequency response measurement, my Class D Purifi Eigentakt sounds compressed compare to Levinson No 333. My Krell KSA200s sounds less bright than benchmark AHB2. My benchmark AHB2 on human vocal sounds light weight compare to Levinson 333. My levinson 333 has more weight and dynamic impact when playing classical song like 1812 overture at louder volume setting. All observed under volume settings that produces the same SPL (84dBC) on Sterephile's Test CD2 Track 15 pink noise, and on the same B&W 802D3 speakers..

The Levinson's also have more headroom.

I use Crown Amps exclusively I-Tech and Drivecore 2.0 at 24Bit/192Khz AES digital, Blu link or Dante, find those features on your Mcintosh? I can control them with a laptop, phone or tablet. Because I use Exclusively JBL speakers and the tunings are in the amp for whatever speaker i want or need. DBX venue360, tube pre-amp all on 3 phase 220V w/ 125A breaker per phase in my house. I spent more on just electrical wiring, than the cost of one of those overpriced amps. all amps supply 4x rms speaker rating

Can we connect external hard drive to av receiver

    • @bbfoto7248

      @suresh babu
Only a handful of specific manufacturers & models have this feature.
You would typically look for a "Media Server" or "Network/Media Sreamer" to distribute & play your digital music & video/movie files from an external HDD to an input on your audio system AVR or Audio Preamplifier.
You would need some sort of visual GUI control/playback interface to search, select, and play your music or video files, such as your HDTV display & the AVR Remote Control, or via a Smartphone or Tablet using a Media Player app and WiFi or Bluetooth connection.

What makes an amp sound more powerfull than another, not loudness. I've heard a clean sterile loud amp and a less powerful amp sound meatier.
