This song changed everything. That bassline, the synth chords, the chord changes. She took The System, D Train, The Gap Band, and Herbie and mixed it up and created a MONSTER. An anti love song that makes you feel good. Classic.

You're right, Jamal. This song did peaked at the #2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and peaked at the #6 on the Billboard Black Single chart both in the early winter of 1990. Jane Child is one of the first white female singers to do well on the black singles chart.

I know you didn't mean it the way I'm taking it, and you did say 'one of' the first, but that sounds like it's a recent thing, while Teena Marie was having number 1 hits on the R&B/soul/black charts for at least 10 years when this came out. No one else sounded like her, the drums and keyboard in this song, as well as vocal, this is a BEAST of a song. I went right out and bought it back then. Amazing escalation on keyboard in the end too!! but that drum with that triple symbol beat is what grabbed me. It was super fun to sing with too.
